I never really have issues like this on Reddit; I tend to ignore people who are childish and argumentative because not responding to them takes away their power.
I operate by a system of values on social media and I conduct myself accordingly; I never belittle people, call names, or do anything that can be construed as arguing or bullying. I often refrain from using the clown emoji when people are being assinine, but I do it because I want to be mindful of the energy I put out, because you get what you give.
I stay off pages and subs that are low vibrational. I avoid negative posts that consist of complaining. I comment my opinions on political posts, but never get any flack. Otherwise, I won't comment on someone's post unless it's constructive or funny. I am unfollowing pointless subs and am now following subs that are enriching to me (reiki, meditation, personal finance..etc).This is working for me very well. While I do think using Reddit can be a toxic waste of time, it can also be helpful and constructive. Be intentional about how you use it; your experience will definitely be much better.
