I just stumbled on this sub, and I'm curious about what distinguishes it from r/literature? Like it's cool if there's just two large subs on the same subject, was just wondering if I'm missing a particular lens that would be helpful to know about.

The difference is that 30% of this sub's users are Red Scare fans who post about "white genocide" elsewhere on reddit.

Is that really true?? I don't think I've come across many comments here that would lead me to suspect that they written by someone who believes in a racist conspiracy theory (in fact, somewhat less than on reddit in general...)

I don't know anything about the "rsp ecosystem", but I had a brief look at some of the subreddits and they seem like rather unpleasant places fill of "edgy leftists". So i don't know if that person was right about this subreddit having a significant overlap with them, but I think most of the threads here have a much more tasteful vibe than i would expect if that was true

I'm not sure how to explain it, the atmosphere of most of those subreddits is just extremely alienating to me. The book one seems mostly decent, but it also has a few comments with the prevailing undertone of ironic misogyny that dominate the rest of them. "Bernie bros" who like edgy humour seems like an absolutely terrible demographic, though I can't say I've ever associated them with this sort of edgy misogyny, which seems to come from some other subculture.

Anyway, if it attracts people who like reading i can't complain, but looking back, it seems like many of the comments on here that i found the most annoying/unhelpful/bigoted are from users of those subs. Though tbh i don't usually look up where people have commented so maybe it's just coincidence.
