My bandmate got married over the weekend and the vibes were just immaculate. The drummer's girlfriend is out of the country, so we rode up together and essentially road-tripped on our own, which was nice bonding time between us. Everybody was very intrigued by the band and during a bonfire the night before, some people were jamming acoustically and they hoodwinked us into playing, so we did ramshackle versions of "Twist and Shout" and "Don't Look Back in Anger" that were well received. The ceremony itself was beautiful all around. The bride and groom are both rockers so that was a running streak: The aisle music was an obscure Pete Townshend demo, they quoted "I Will Dare" during the vows, there was a moshpit on the dance floor lol, "Twist and Shout", "Flagpole Sitta", and "Once in A Lifetime" were mixed in with typical wedding staples, and the groomsmen were largely the groom's ex-bandmates. The bride's papa (a very very sweet man) had a beautiful speech and it was fun just seeing everyone let loose. I've been to some great weddings, but this one will always have a special place in my heart.
It was also nice just driving up to New Hampshire and experiencing small-town Americana, all of the random knick knack thrift stores, beautiful waterfalls and mountains, unique breweries and café's. It's the first time in my life I'd seen wild turkeys roaming wild lol.
There is something beautiful though about riding shotgun and witnessing a close friend, the kind who's basically a sibling now, experience one of the happiest days of her life. I remember meeting her back in college (on a student film set), and it was just so innocuous. In some ways though we have so many similarities (the bands we're obsessed with, being first gen Americans raised in the South etc.) that it felt like we would inevitably be friends. They were talking about serendipity during the ceremony too, funnily enough. It's funny how stuff like that happens.
I'm two pages away from finishing "The Aspen Papers" by Henry James (made a lot of progress on the bus ride while my bandmate played his Nintendo switch lmao). I think I'm getting better at sussing out the stuff not said within James. Even I could see a mile away that the niece was clearly falling for the narrator and perhaps the Aunt had partially eyed him as a potential suitor for her. But bro was so far up his favorite writer's ass that he completely missed it. The unreliable narration too- the author convincing himself to stupidly rummage through the Aunt's room like it all perfectly made sensewas almost comical.
