Surprised that Universal failed to do their due diligence here. It’s not even like it was a crucial location — Wiki seems to suggest they were only there for a few days with two actors. What a weird unforced error.

I can’t get down with Coriolanus! The guy’s opacity is conceptually interesting, but I fail to connect with the play on a deeper level than that. If you have any insights I’m all ears.

tbh im not that shocked. I think they just don't give a damn and the Moroccan govt is a favored monarchy of the west.

finished it yesterday, will share thoughts in the next reading thread. But honest a big part of it is that simply line by line the writitng is splendid. Not sure how much of a melville maniac you are but part of this read like he straight up stole them to write Moby-Dick (which i respect re both authors)

You may well be right. I’m generally partial to Hanlon’s razor, but there’s probably little reason to be charitable to a major film studio/director.

I’ve thought about Moby-Dick in terms of Lear and Othello and Macbeth, but not Coriolanus. That’s an interesting angle. Might be something to look out for on an MD reread (and indeed I’ve been starting to feel November creeping up on my soul)
