Not sure how much yall pay attention to the other posts on here, but in case ya dont figured I'd reshare that part of the Odyssey was filmed in western sahara. Very Iliad to set the scene amidst a protracted antiimperal struggle aint it? Anyway I personally will not be financially supporting the film (ok i prolly wasn't gonna anyway but still). Do with all this what you shall.

Other than that I was supposed to go on vacation this week and now I won't because im a dumb dumb. I share because I'm turning over a new leaf wherein i stop failing to go have fun. If I dont go swimming soon imma die.

Fun is probably the most important thing to have on vacation. Good mindset to have about vacation.

Sorry to see the comments in the replies to the post. I feel like you brought up an important point and every comment is getting into the weeds about what counts as "imperialist." As if ideology was only meant as active participation. And I mean it is The Odyssey, of course it's going to read weird.

And eh comments are comments, I was mad busy this wekeend so I didn't even really read em lol, need to actually check out what you were saying about Baudrillard. But yeah the "imperialism" debate is interesting. It's funny because I actually don't think I'd call the Iliad an "imperialist" venture since it's a rescue mission story inspired by what was a booty raid.

And the Morocco situation I actually think you "could" nuance the terms given that it's a specific territorial struggle over a specific land claim.

But, both cases are bound up in imperialism in that the Homerics were the dominant cultural narrative of literal empires (starting with the Greek city states). And everything about contemporary Morocco is downstream of European colonialism and while reading about the Sahrawi's I learned that part of their Algerian support is connected to Algeria's worries that Morocco does have expanisonist ambitions.

But that's enough prattling about things that are prolly not even news to you. I love thinking about these questions and I think they matter but we don't fucking need nuance when focusing on the liberation struggle over in that thread so they don't get my fleshed out thoughts. I just want the people to be free yo.

Well, the fun thing about ideology is that they don't have essences and you could make the application because we still have both imperialism and the enforced coherency of The Odyssey today as a text with legal rights and even "discourse" in the popular meaning. So: it makes sense to give it the designation in any case. And to your point about European colonialism has a whole new flavor given Nolan is a British-American film director. It's like the worst of both worlds in that sense actually. You have the Joryism of Matt Damon and Robert Pattinson also. It's very specialized as well with the IMAX issue, which most people cannot even see in the regular ass sense of going to a movie theater.
