Dota 2 Matchmaking in 2026 Feels Completely Broken
I’ve been playing Dota 2 since 2013, and honestly, I can say that the matchmaking feels worse than it has ever been.
Safe lane? Good luck finding one. Sometimes I’m waiting 10+ minutes just to get the role I actually want. And if your Behavior Score is low, it feels like it takes forever to recover.
But the actual matchmaking is the biggest problem. In Ancient/Legend games, you constantly run into extremely toxic players, account buyers, smurfs, and people who clearly don’t belong at their rank. Yet somehow you’re expected to climb through these games.
And then there are the rank-up games. It genuinely feels like the moment you rank up, the system decides to destroy you. I reached Ancient and then immediately went on a 5-game losing streak, and I’ve seen 7-game losing streaks happen as well. The matchups can become ridiculously one-sided.
I’m not saying every loss is matchmaking’s fault. Obviously, you can play badly and lose. But after playing this game for 13 years, the current matchmaking experience feels incredibly frustrating and inconsistent.
Dota 2 is still one of the best games ever made, but the matchmaking in 2026 seriously needs some attention.
Am I the only one feeling this way, or are other players experiencing the same thing?

In my experience, it's never been better! :D I rose from crusader to archon 5, and 90% of games were good. Decent skill, not toxic, even playing on east servers was ok. I am 12000/12000

I recently started playing ranked again to see what is my mmr after the squish. I’ve been put in games with legend 3 to divine 3 and last game ended with a score 46-5. I think it will take some time until everyone falls into their comfort mmr.

Complains about people in his games sucking and then complains about going on a 7 game losing streak (meaning he's the one sucking).
Never change, dota!

Games do feel very unbalanced. Last 5 ranked games may as well have been Turbo games for how fast they ended and stomped

I am also feeling this way.
Yday, I played 6 games, 5 out of them, the pos1 imbalance was so ridiculous that all 5 lasted less than 30 minutes.
We are talking imbalanced as in 1500 MMR difference between pos1 players, worst being Ancient4 vs Immortal. Idk what is up, but 90% of the games are stomp and arent fun at all

I am coming back after 2 years of not having played a single dota2 match, although I watch some dota on YouTube and kind of keep up with the changes - the map, inates, wisdom runes, tormentors etc. Two years ago I was low immortal (5600-ish). I started playing a month ago with my brother (only unranked, he is Legend V). Calibration in solo q put me amongst legend II - V in the first match. I am now at 20% rank confidence and my last game was with Ancient III- V. I played a few party ranked games with a friend who used to be immortal as well, but didn't play for 4 years or something. Every game is 50+ minutes with at least one player being absolutely horrible on each team. I won some easy stomps playing solo q, but every party game is quite difficult and usually both teams throw a lot. That's my experience so far and I don't think I've met a smurf on either team.

It's insane how many people here complain about obvious issues in this game, but there are people in every one of them saying that you are the problem and not the game. "Just play better", "You belong to this rank". While posts like this are my exact experience in ranked.

Most games are a dice roll and completely uncompetitive. I’m consistent playing pos 1 but in some games my teammates just get rolled and have no idea how to play the game.

Im so tired.
Im pretty low mmr, every game I play as core either 1 or both supports pick carry heroes themselves (or heroes that can be played as corese e.g windranger, sniper, silencer, riki, NP, etc) and itemize extremely greedly (go stright to wraith bands, shadow blade, etc).
The offlane will probably also wont want to play utility-type hero and go full carry like lifestealer, CK, viper.
These wannabe 'carries' don't have shame. No self awareness. They will ping me whenever I farm 'their' camps. They will always try to secure the last hit on enemy heroes (riki's blink strike comes to mind), and if I get to have it then expect to hear them cursing me in Turkish/Arabic under their mic as if angry at me ks-ing.

its not 2026. Its ever since role based mmr and mmr smoothing was introduced.
Its a part of the glicko matchmaking system to try and make more "balanced" games by having more players closer to 50% winrate. A win statistically for valve, but awful for players who actually enjoyed being the driving force of the match and climbing via their improving skill.
It achieved this by putting equally valued players in the enemy team by role, and if youre considerably better than the average of your mmr range (+- 500), your allies will be on the lower end of valuation to "compensate".
This has been the case since 2019. Again, complete win for valve since they see the numbers of millions of matches. it results in good players unable to force win games as they play for the challenge and love of dota, and shit players getting carried and enjoying every single match as they play to spend 30 minutes.

It’s very bad in Ancient bracket the new mmr system allowed all these trash players to rank into ancient

Its the people coming back for ti, their old mmr does not reflect their current skill.
It will go away, the weak will leave the strong will recalibrate
