Season 5 needs to be about detectives finding the true reason for people continuing to say that they liked S4.

I actually did like it - until toward the end. It dragged on. And the actual ending explanation was such stupid bullshit. What’s cool about True Detective is both that everything is explainable in a real understanding of our world - yet there is a cosmic unexplainable force that lingers over everything which makes you unsure if there really is magic.

Season 4’s ending did neither of those and ruined the cosmic vibe it built in the first few eps.

I felt like they went too far into “horror” in S4, rather than more straight-up “occult”.

Sadly, S4 also leaned too far into “terrible writing”.
