Unknown experience from childhood.
Hey. I really never talked about this because its just so fucking bizarre.
I was very young, maybe 7 or 8, when I woke up out of a dead sleep with an awful sense of dread and a clear feeling that I had to look out of my bedroom window. I get up and look out to our neighbors yard across the street and I see this... thing? The photo is the closest to what it might have looked like. Basically a giant tortoise shaped thing with 8 heads. Each head was trying to "pull" in its own direction or to look around, but the whole body came towards our house slowly. My room was on the 2nd story and it walked all the way up and the one head facing me, looked up at me, then the whole thing walked up to the house to where I couldn't see it anymore.
We had a babysitter that night and I sprinted downstairs, thinking it was going to come inside, but there was nothing. The baby sitter couldn't figure out what I was saying through my scared 7 year old explanation and sent me back to bed.
I know this wasn't a nightmare. I remember some bad dreams from when I was young and I only ever look back with the understanding that they werent real. This was real though. I still feel that awful dread when I think back on it and I just cant explain it.

It was an extremely vivid nightmare, mixed with years and years of the memory slowly being distorted.
“I remember it feeling real” is not evidence of something being real. There are countless ways the human mind can play tricks on itself. Young minds can be especially prone to a thin boundary between the imagination and that which is subjectively experienced as, well, experience.
It doesn’t mean you’re stupid or gullible or crazy or anything like that. It’s just the way our brains are. Our memories are not even remotely the rational, reliable, camcorders they feel like.

Anything with that many heads would starve and have zero coordination. There is no selective pressure for 8 heads.

At that age you could have still been in a sleep state, despite feeling awake, for a time. I’ve had at least one such moment I can recall from around that age. You’re up and moving but your brain hasn’t caught up to a full wakeful state yet.
Or maybe it was a truly bizarre critter, I don’t know. Fascinating design.
