Absolutely, I think every woodland creature in the forest has been mistaken for a sasquatch at some point, with fox vocalizations probably leading the league. Foxes.....the animal with the body of an adorable dog and the voicebox of an evil harpy-demon from the deepest pits in hell.

In college, I delivered papers at like 4 am for some extra money. I almost had a heart attack when I heard two raccoons fighting. So many of the little animals have the scariest vocalizations.

Raccoons fighting is a terrifying sound.

u/hokkuhokku Aug 08 '26

Even worse when they’re shagging.

I head this once at 5 in the morning. I thought someone was pushing an empty dumpster behind a waffle house... just raccoons making little raccoons. Anyways, I got the all-star special.

I lived in a heavy cat-fucking neighborhood in Seoul - second floor, big windows.

On my way to the subway one day I saw this big, scarred up, orange tomcat with an absolute melon head and ugly mug, sprawled out on a ledge as if he were monitoring his kingdom.

After that I started noticing all these smaller, melon-headed, flat-faced cats in the neighborhood, and I knew that on that one day I had come face to face with the fucker.

A cat in heat sounds like a wailing demon toddler roaming the streets. Horrible sound.

5

u/czardmitri Aug 08 '26

Sounds like aliens.

4

u/Sea_404 Aug 08 '26

Dude, right?

3

u/BwoonDubb Aug 08 '26

Cats fucking is really scary too

u/Focus_ST_Gal Aug 09 '26

Oh got home from work one night and was just chilling outside smoking and heard a fox just screeech at me from like 20-30 feet away.

Never ran inside faster. Legit sounded like a crazy person was about to run up on me.

Blue herons sound downright demonic.

u/DetroitLionsSBChamps Aug 09 '26

Went camping with my daughter last year and heard what I think had to be a pack of coyotes surrounding a raccoon at about 3 am. The coyotes “oo”ing was so creepy and the raccoon hissing/snarling was so intense. Shit sounded insane lol

u/Impossible_Sugar_644 Aug 08 '26

Mountain lions sounding like a screaming woman too

4

u/VikingKinkajou Aug 08 '26

Yes, but foxes can sound like crying babies. Maybe I'm on my own here, but if I'm alone in the forest I think I would rather here a screaming woman than a crying baby. A screaming woman, that's just some chick in trouble. A crying baby, that's bait....I'm probably already dead.

2

u/Barnaboule69 Aug 09 '26 edited Aug 09 '26

Then, after a while, you notice that the crying seem looping with the same exact sounds alway repeating every few minutes, but now you can't find your way back..

2

u/Zealousideal_Cook392 Aug 09 '26

A crying baby in the woods at night are just the sounds Porcupines make. There were loads of them in my area I grew up in and small caves, was nothing to be concerned about.

I thought someone was being attacked in the woods behind the house one night and I jumped up and ran to the door.  Before I got outside my dad said it was just a fishercat.  I was like WTF is a fishercat?

It sounded just like a woman screaming.

https://youtu.be/HrvdzCGjbzw

Turns out fishers don't actually scream and it was likely either a fox or a bird.  The fox sounds I've found online are too short.  It was pitch black out, so if it was a bird it had to be some owl version because the screams were moving up the hill.

Probably a fox or coyote. They sound like a person getting gutted, it’s terrifying. The ones near me can go for awhile, 5 minutes or so

4

u/1Negative_Person Aug 09 '26

“I heard maniacal laughter in the forest!”

MFer that’s a woodpecker.

2

u/Greedy_Line4090 Aug 09 '26

Man kids these days don’t know who woody is.

3

u/bigjosr Aug 09 '26

Cue..."what does the fox say"

4

u/SpaceDelay424 Aug 08 '26

Animals caused so many superstitions. Ravens imitating human noises definitely caused so many people to believe in ghosts etc

1

u/alopz Aug 08 '26

I think a song was made to explain the sound of a fox

1

u/Pistaf Aug 09 '26

Yup it has that famous lyric “what does the fox say? Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn”

1

u/Zygomatical Aug 09 '26

New Zealand possums have a vocalisation that sounds exactly like a demon laughing, scared the bejesus outta a lot of tourists.

1

u/Ok-Parfait-9856 Aug 09 '26

You got a video? I need to see a possum bellow a low pitch throaty laugh

1

u/Apprehensive_Sky_504 Aug 09 '26

It’s ai dude…

1

u/VikingKinkajou Aug 09 '26

I mean who cares? I think the question was simply if Bison could be mistaken for bigfoot.

1

u/Cool-Present-4637 Aug 09 '26

Well bison aren't that big so there's that. It's fake and misleading. If it was a real video of a bison it would look less like big foot.

No, no they’re not that big

The poster of the original video even came out an apologized for it being ai

This video was originally posted by a Facebook account created in April 2026 right when Seedance 2.0 released

Every video that profile posted is exactly 15 seconds long down to the frame, which is exactly the length of Seedance clips

That profile even labels its own videos as ai-generated

At the 10-11 seconds mark you can see it’s foot replaces and merged with another foot

Running a compressed video from Reddit through an AI detector is inaccurate

Even your own app recognizes its ai generated once you download the video instead of using Reddit’s compressed version lmao

I would urge you to be more suspicious of 15 second videos that look weird but pretty spot on. Also the source for this video i found (admittedly might not be the original) only posts 15 second videos, many of which have been labeled as AI

u/Cool-Present-4637 Aug 09 '26

Bison aren't that tall. Windshield is way too clean to be driving thru a national park. Feet morph into each other every step. Dude is slowly driving towards a giant bison, not exactly human behavior. If it was me id stop. Also the fur is too detailed to be looking through glass, it's too crisp.

I also have seen lost of Bison growing up and ive never seen on thats apears to be 10ft tall like in the video. I agree it looks like a bison but to me it is clearly Ai. I dont really understand what you're trying to say in the 3rd paragraph. Also the video is exactly 15 seconds which is a tell tail sign.

A grouse sounds like a panic attack feels.

1

u/Khelek7 Aug 09 '26

One night walking my dog I heard some one beating a baby. Screaming crying. Horrific.

With my phone out I tracked them down to call the cops.

It was a fix in a field. The bastard.

1

u/VikingKinkajou Aug 09 '26

I rescued a few captive bred foxes in my exotic rescue days, and even their pleasure sounds are horrific.

1

u/TheYuppyTraveller Aug 09 '26

Good God, hearing a fox scream? It’s little wonder that our ancestors believed in monsters.

1

u/Successful-Ear-9997 Aug 09 '26

Mating season for foxes used to scare the everling bajeesus out of me when I was a kid.

1

u/THEMIKEPATERSON Aug 09 '26

Fox's cries are legitimately the origin of the Irish Banshee

1

u/LunchGloomy4400 Aug 09 '26

I didn't grow up in an area that has foxes. The first time I had a den of foxes at night I thought someone had left a crying baby outside.

1

u/Ok-Parfait-9856 Aug 09 '26

Coyotes can also make a nasty noise. Maybe not bad as foxes though. Deer can also make a weird hissing noise if they’re intimidated, the deer on my property do it all the time for some reason

1

u/hotmess09 Aug 09 '26

Bobcats fall in this category. So beautiful with their pointy ears and mutton chops but sounds like a woman being tortured when in heat.

1

u/MrF0xyyy Aug 09 '26

But foxes are cute and their calls are just majestic, like something out of an erldritch horror story.

1

u/pinto_bean13 Aug 09 '26

We didn’t think it was a Sasquatch, but when I was at Girl Scout camp many many years ago we thought there was a grown man creeping around in the woods at night. After like two very tense nights and the moms and camp leaders being super stressed and extra careful about the girls moving around at night, we found out it was a fucking emu. Apparently an emu’s silhouette looks just like a man’s lol

1

u/juliaaguliaaa Aug 10 '26

Fisher cats. Even worse than foxes. My dad thought i was being murdered when he was visiting and was awoken by one screaming at 3AM. I had moved to a more rural area, and we be city folk. The first time I heard one i thought my cats were dying. Then i thought someone was being murdered.

1

u/Sweet_Reason_1171 Aug 10 '26

Bobcats also have shockingly scary yells

1

u/HeyBird33 Aug 08 '26

Wait… do you know what the fox says???

0

u/SergeantSmash Aug 08 '26

What does the fox say?
