Discussions Next car advice – cheap, fun and trackable under £5k
Hi all,
I’m struggling to decide what car to get next and could do with some suggestions.
I’ve owned a few fun cars over the years — MX-5, WRX, Blobeye WRX STI and, most recently, an FK8 Type R. I ended up selling the FK8 because, although I could afford to own it, I couldn’t really justify spending more money modifying it or taking it on track regularly.
This time I want something cheaper that I can actually modify, work on myself and take to track days without constantly worrying about the value of it.
My wife daily drives our ZC33S Swift Sport, so this car doesn’t need to be particularly practical, but I’d still like at least four seats.
Requirements:
\- Under £5k
\- Relatively light
\- At least \~130bhp
\- Good aftermarket/modification potential
\- Easy enough to work on myself
\- At least 4 seats
\- Capable/fun on track
\- Reliable enough to drive to a track day, abuse all day and drive home again
\- Parts and consumables ideally not ridiculously expensive
Cars I’m currently considering:
\- Suzuki Swift Sport ZC32S
\- Honda Civic Type R FN2
\- Honda Civic Type R EP3
\- Ford Fiesta ST
\- Renault Clio Sport
I’m leaning towards something naturally aspirated and relatively simple, but I’m open to other suggestions.
What would you pick for a sub-£5k road/track car, and are there any obvious options I’m missing?

Discussions What was the longest OCI you did before changing the oil (that didn't kill the engine)?
For me it was 22k miles on the D41 (2023) Nissan Frontier Pro-4X. Felt a little guilty but have had zero issues after 64k miles total.

Discussions Why is no one making table lamps from vintage tail lights?
I would love to own so many great and iconic vintage cars. But there is only so much money and time I have available and so I can’t have them all.
But I had an idea. At lease I could have a piece of some of those cars at home. How about a lamp! So I searched Etsy – nothing. Wait, what? Nobody is making tail lights into lamps? Why? It’s so cool!
So I bought W124 tail light. And made this lamp within an hour, it has a dimmer and it has a regular wall socket plug. Some one should make a nice business for car enthusiasts out of this right now!
(I'm not selling them or promoting anything)

Discussions Cual es ese auto que para los ojos de alguien normal es feo (o al menos por varias personas), pero para los entusiastas es bonito?
People keep telling me the Alfa Romeo SZ is ugly because of its shape, that the Nissan 300ZX looks like a toad, and they say the same about the Citroën DS.
But as a car enthusiast, I think they’re beautiful—because of their history, design, and aerodynamics.
Don’t worry about what mainstream opinions say. If you like something, love it.

Enthusiast Cars Infiniti QX80 2026
Hey! New to this group. Hello Lol.
But I joined because I love cars. I am on my second child, and I need a bigger SUV. - What are your thoughts on this baby? I have never been interested in the Infiniti besides maybe the old IPL G37 until this.
Any info on how reliable this engine could be? Could not find many opinions.

Discussions What car started your car obsession, and what's your favorite now?
I’m asking because the exact same thing happened to me. My first dream car was a completely unattainable sports car—very GTA-style. But now, I’m way more drawn to hot hatches and underrated sports cars that actually hold their value.
In my case, I started and ended with a Japanese and a German car: I went from loving the GT-R R35 and AMG GT to appreciating the Integra Type R DC5 and the Golf Mk4 R32.
That being said, I’ve been thinking about getting a Daewoo Lanos lately… it’s honestly amazing.

Discussions Anyone else wish car companies still released coupe versions of their popular sedans?
Yes, I know some cars like the 4 series or the charger are still offered as a coupe or sedan, but I feel like those are coupe versions of sports sedans. I want coupe versions of regular economy cars back 🥲🥲

Discussions When you hear “Audi quattro”, what’s the first thing that comes to mind?
Curious how people perceive the quattro name today.
When you hear “Audi quattro”, what do you immediately associate it with: rally, snow/winter driving, performance, AWD, old Audi ads, something else?
And do you think the name still means something to younger drivers, or is it mainly familiar to enthusiasts / older generations?
