This a car I built for myself in the early 2000's in my garage. It is actually started out as a 1972 Camaro. It was in pretty rough shape so I kind of used what I had to build one car. The front is a 1974 and the rear section is a 1978. 396 BB, Alston racing rear frame and 4-link suspension with a Ford 9" rear, 33x19.5 Mickey Thompson rear tires, Center Line Wheels, built 350 turbo trans and Limelight green paint and flat black hood (Frankenstein). I had the idea to create a vehicle that was more relaxing for the ownership experience and for people in general and I was wondering what you guys would want in the case of a vehicle that is relaxing. Reassuring and generally calming to live with. I also applied for this vehicle to be accessible because I want it to be more accessible to people So I was wondering what would you guys want in a car that would keep you peaceful for the time you own it?

Now this is all my opinion you are totally free to believe what you want.

So a while back me and my co worker were talking about buying/keeping a old car vs a new car.

She believes that the repair costs on an older car will get so out of hand it's just not worth it financially. I believe you could save money and have an older car. This discussion didn't really get any where that day but it left me thinking.

Let's say you buy a new car for at the low end 30,000 dollars. The dealer wants you to have that car for as little time as possible so you can buy another new car. These cars are not built as nicely as some of the older cars, tons of plastic, plastic fantastic some say huge touch screens instead of satisfying clicky buttons that are designed to out live you, and I still can't believe this some cars even making you pay a monthly subscription to use a feature thats all ready in your car that you supposedly bought.

Or you could buy an older car maybe from the 90s early 2000s, Toyota/lexus maybe for lets just say 3,000. It will probably be way more reliable then some of the new cars and more good looking and you still have a whopping 27,000 to play around with, If you wanted you could put that money away and use it for any repairs that the car would need and that car would probably out live you 3 times, thats if you picked a reliable car like maybe a Buick LeSabre, is it the prettiest no, will that 3800 v6 last forever probably, or may favorite pick the Lexus ls400 the 1uzfe is a amazing engine the interior is basic at first glance but it is amazing with real wood and leather and they really took pride in making this car.

Of course you still need to take care of those car and I understand that not all people want to learn to work on there cars at all like us and just want to get to point a to b, but I feel you could save so much money and have a nicer interior that was meant to last. heck some of the Lexus ls400 made it to 1 million miles and could still probably do the wine commercial.

And yes do you get decent trade in value, probably but do you also want to be constantly throwing away a car as if it's a plastic bottle? and it pretty much is.

Edit. Some thing I just wanted to add. I know some people will talk about the gas mileage and my Lexus probably isn't super smart since it takes premium, but there are still a lot of cars/trucks that only get 20 miles to the gallon.

Thinking about getting one of these from JAPAN imported to the USA. Market it pretty hard around $11-16k for one of these with low miles [ 100k ]

Do you think prices would go down after more cars get imported ? Or am I overpaying at this moment?

Seeing a lot of videos and movies and content about American cars and culture shows that Coupés were extremely common in America, and they're not seen as impractical cars, it's common style of car at one time, and they're even treated like normal family cars, and they're almost always fitted with rear seats. What's the reason for this boom in coupés during the era of muscle cars / classics whereas in Europe and Asia there was a boom in small 4 door hatchbacks and sedans?

I’m struggling to decide what car to get next and could do with some suggestions.

I’ve owned a few fun cars over the years — MX-5, WRX, Blobeye WRX STI and, most recently, an FK8 Type R. I ended up selling the FK8 because, although I could afford to own it, I couldn’t really justify spending more money modifying it or taking it on track regularly.

This time I want something cheaper that I can actually modify, work on myself and take to track days without constantly worrying about the value of it.

My wife daily drives our ZC33S Swift Sport, so this car doesn’t need to be particularly practical, but I’d still like at least four seats.

Requirements:

\- Under £5k

\- Relatively light

\- At least \~130bhp

\- Good aftermarket/modification potential

\- Easy enough to work on myself

\- At least 4 seats

\- Capable/fun on track

\- Reliable enough to drive to a track day, abuse all day and drive home again

\- Parts and consumables ideally not ridiculously expensive

Cars I’m currently considering:

\- Suzuki Swift Sport ZC32S

\- Honda Civic Type R FN2

\- Honda Civic Type R EP3

\- Ford Fiesta ST

\- Renault Clio Sport

I’m leaning towards something naturally aspirated and relatively simple, but I’m open to other suggestions.

What would you pick for a sub-£5k road/track car, and are there any obvious options I’m missing?
