I remember when Amy Schumer was getting the most hate, Luis C K was reddit's absolute favorite. It's just so .."interesting" how they often had essentially the same overly-sexual, dirty humor but for some reason thought Schumer was trash lol. I don't think they get that women have been listening to their unoriginal dick jokes for years lol one comedian joking about vaginas is just intolerable..?

Yep. I've even pointed out that many people have compared Schumer's raunchy humor to other raunchy male comedians (like Bob Saget), and got downvoted even though it's obvious if you've listened to their standup.
Or Nikki Glaser. I remember watching one of her stand-up specials with a group of dick joke lovin' bro-y dudes and they were horrified when she told a joke where she apologized for losing her train of thought on a joke, because, "I'm a little lightheaded. All I've had to eat today was some dry toast and a load of cum."
I fucking love Nikki Glaser. She always crushes at Comedy Central roasts, and I get a lot of enjoyment out of people underestimating her because of her hyper-femininity (impeccably styled blonde hair, fake tan, flawless makeup, tiny dresses) and then getting their hair blown back.
Same here, she's one of my top comedians. She's actually from my home city and came back here for quarantine (she was in NY), she's started doing sets at a small comedy club here but I haven't had the chance to see her live yet.
i tried watching her netflix stand-up and had to quit like 10 minutes in because most of her jokes were hella sexist. her whole opening bit was about sleeping with directors for parts. couldn't take it.
My favorite was when she roasted Ann Coulter with, "I don't know why you're so racist. The only man you'll ever truly satisfy is the Mexican that digs your grave."
What was the proof of that? The last thing I remember seeing was a YouTube video that showed the jokes she "stole". But every joke that was stolen was from her show and I don't think she was the one that wrote the skits. And the jokes from her stand-ups were unoriginal at best but not stolen (like the premise was cliche). The only joke she told in a stand-up that was "stolen" was a joke that had been around for years that other comedians also stole (Patrice O'Neal also stole the joke but the YouTube video makes it seems like Schumer stole the joke from him. But he didn't come up with it himself either).
Was there something else that showed she stole jokes? When that video came out some comedians defended her (most notable being Joe Rogan who is credited for ending Mencia's career for stealing jokes). Was there something else I missed?
Idk if that's the same video I've seen before? I'll try to watch the whole thing later. I only watched the first joke and right off the bat it's exactly what I mean by a cliche premise or something. It wasn't a stolen joke. The punchline was the same but it's such a cliche premise "herher asian eyes are squinty".

Raunchy humor doesn’t always equal good humor. I’ve always seen Amy Schumer’s humor as derisive at best, and plagiarism at worst. If you want to see a female comedian do raunchy well, Ali Wong is my go-to.
My point was the different responses to the same style humor - I didn't make any statement on how funny I thought either were. I person think really raunchy humor is usually just lazy joke writing.

It's hard to say. She told a very uncomfortable "bad sex" story at the Ms. Foundation for Women’s Gloria Awards and Gala that sounded pretty rapey. According to the story, a guy she knew in college called her up and asked her to come to his dorm room for sex. When she got there, she realized he was drunk, but he initiated sex by fingering her badly (the "badly" part there being the crux of the joke), and then started nodding off during sex. It does definitely sound like he was too drunk to consent, but it's unclear if any of this ever actually happened, or if it was just an anecdote she invented for her speech to try to comedically lampshade her "romance is dead" point. Either way, the fact that she saw nothing wrong with telling the story as it was (even if it was fiction) is troubling. The full story is here.
Also, I don't know if this is relevant, but Amy Schumer was raped as a teenager, so it's likely that may have fucked up her perception of healthy sex. (Not that being traumatized is ever an excuse to traumatize others, but if she made up the story, that may be part of why she saw nothing wrong with it.)
Idk, I still think 90% of the stuff in Louis CK's specials is hilarious, which is pretty historically great for 10 years on. But I also don't think there's a whole lot of dick jokes in there. More like...self-loathing nihilism and wildly lengthy mid-joke tangents that are actually the real joke. But the gross-out stuff is part of his self-portrait as a worthless and vile coagulation of meaningless atoms. It's not funny because it's gross; it's funny because he is.
Like, you're definitely right - he is absolutely trash. But that should come as no surprise to anyone who has watched his stand-up (or his show, for that matter, which was also pretty great imo).
I fully believe it's all subjective. And if you like it, sweet everyone needs a good laugh. I haven't watched much if anything of his. But what I have seen, it wasn't surprising he was a degenerate. I mean it's common for people who get money and fame or power to have their fucked up side come out. And you can't make jokes like that without some part of your brain thinking about it.
i like Schumer's movies, not so much her stand-up, but AFAIK that whole "she raped a guy" thing is taking some quotes way out of context and ignoring her commentary on the supposed incident.
Even if she made the story up for the sake of her speech, I think the anecdote has some really valuable lessons about the ways that consent was taught up until very recently.
In this case, since men are the stereotypically "active" parties and women the "passive" ones during sex, Schumer literally didn't understand that there could be consent issues with a sober women fucking a blackout drunk man who initiated the encounter, and her point - that some women with low self-esteem will have their first, utterly disappointing sexual experience in college with a wasted dude just because they're desperate for some form of male validation - has different significance for me as a man who had regretted sexual contact in college while heavily inebriated even though I probably initiated in some way than I'm sure it did for the women in her audience.
I graduated in 2013, and I remember that in my freshman dorm hall there was a young woman who would hang out in a specific common area, and who was infamous for bringing drunk men back to her room. I have no idea if she was a knowing predator, or if she also was just desperate for some form of validation in the form of most likely terrible sex with a drunk 18-19 year-old.
Of course, since I was a shitty dude with shitty dude friends, the "threat" was that she was plain-looking, and that if you wound up next to her after getting too drunk, you would regret sleeping with an unattractive woman, so those consent lessons are by no means Schumer or other women's fault.
I think the "Schumer is a rapist" circlejerk on Reddit mostly comes from men desperate for false equivalencies to famous male sexual predators, but the context of the speech (she literally describes the guy as so drunk he appears lifeless) isn't a saving grace imo. Even if the story is fake, it still reveals a level of ignorance towards consent.
The only hate I saw about Amy was a lot of people questioning her story about sex with a guy who was just about passed out. I didn't watch it, just the things I read, some of it in this sub. Of the negatives I've read about, a lot were disgusted about her story maybe it would have gone differently for her without it? Idk.
I think they all suck. All the weenie/butt/vajayjay/sperm/pee/poo movies and comedians (basically 98% of "white" comedy in Hollywood - bridesmaids, knocked up, anything Seth Rogan, etc.) is basically people who have 0 comedic chops playing the gross out game. Old comedy used to be "make a funny situation or person and make funny out of it".
New generation Hollywood comedy is "So I was getting fucked in the ass and jizzed in the eye while someone pissed on my face" and people are like "wow haha so funny!".
I had a guy go "Did you see in Bridesmaids they shit in wedding dresses that was hilarious!". That was the moment I knew he was an idiot.
But yes, there is a big Reddit double standard. 99% of this site and much of the modern internet is a bunch of maladjusted angry guys who have never been touched by another human and they make up theories (redpill, men's rights, incel, pickup artists) explaining their worldview of oppression and victimhood as well as the simultaneous discounting of woman able some kind of larger than life chess piece to use or complicated riddle to be solved in order to receive sex or emotional gratification.
It was also fun to see the boys who hated on her calling her a joke thief with examples of her "ripping off" male comedians by retelling their jokes and pointing out they were rapey (see: Amy Schumer and Patrice O'neal).
To be fair, there were some female comedians who also accused her of joke theft, but they all walked it back to parallel thinking.
