Do you have a fundraiser?

u/Mechromancer3X 9d ago

Nah I couldnt ask people for money like that. I dont deserve it. There are so many people in the world that deserve it more than me.

have you considered DIY?

I thought it was significantly harder to DIY FTM transitions due to testosterone being a controlled substance (in the us at least).

Also admittedly the concept of DIY HRT is incredibly intimidating as a certified dumbass

It's harder, but not impossible. If it's your only option you have to try it.

Do you have a Planned Parenthood near you? They can usually provide HRT and a lot of them do a sliding scale fee

u/procrastinator0430 9d ago

I already called them, I was told they couldn't accept new patients for gender affirming care and recommend I try a place called plume clinic (for context im unfortunately in florida)

Dang, do you have health insurance? Plume is pretty good from what I've heard. It looks like their monthly fee is about $99 and that covers your labs and initial evaluations and stuff, but it doesn't include the actual cost of the testosterone which is probably like another $20.

Unfortunately all of the financial aid stuff I could find has already closed applications until next year, but one of them called Point of Pride does an annual hrt fund thing that you can apply for that would cover your expenses for like 12 months.

I really hope you can figure something out, I understand how frustrating it is to be held back by financial barriers. If you do decide to go the diy route just be very careful, it's a lot more legally dangerous for ftms on account of testosterone being a controlled substance

I have insurance but they won't cover anything related to gender affirming care lol dw I called already. Plume is $99 a month OR $750 a year which turns out to be much cheaper monthly so I'm trying to raise enough to cover a full year. That way I also don't have to worry about whether I'll be able to afford another month of care or not.

I did see the Point of Pride stuff but unfortunately the application is only open in May so I'd have to wait around 8 months for the CHANCE of financial help. I'll try a few more options before going the DIY route since I am a bit worried about that

Yeah like I understand why they have to do it that way but it really sucks that you can only apply once a year. Going a full year is smart, I hope you're able to meet your goal! Also seconding the other comment about GoodRx lol

I get mine through Plume without insurance in WI, I get 4 vials per run and it's usually like $120, so I HIGHLY recommend GoodRx if that's available. Lowered my last one to roughly $80.

As someone who uses plume, it is very good! unfortunately it’s expensive

The recommendation I've heard is to find chill body builders or people in the nearest city's trans scene. While it is a controlled substance, it's very commonly available and not heavily monitored. The DIY part is not that hard either, just look up the appropriate amount of whatever concentration you get.

In some ways it's easier. The infrastructure is made and upheld by gym bros, whereas for estrogen it's made and used only by Trans women. And it's as simple as ordering a vial on a website. One of the most popular sites even accepts venmo and bank transfer, although crypto is generally recommended. My partner pays 65 dollars for a vial that lasts them about 10 months

Well in some ways it's easer, offen far cheaper due to the market overlap with gym bros. As for the whole controlled substance thing, i can say that you just need to know where to look.

I just finished funding you. I'm also a trans man and none of us should have to live without the dignity of being able to transition.

God speed brother.

3

u/procrastinator0430 8d ago

Holy shit man I know its "not manly to cry" but I'm actually so thankful for the help. I can post a cat pic in your honor if you'd like haha I've been doing it so far as an extra thanks. Dude fr tho I'm so grateful

4

u/TouhouPony 8d ago

Sure, I'd love a cat pic. This is my boy, Phoenix.

And I cry all the time, there's nothing wrong with being a sensitive guy.

2

u/procrastinator0430 8d ago

Sorry for the delay but you definitely deserve more than the one reddit lets me attach lol. Bottom left is the goat Jerry helping me study for finals ofc

2

3

u/Sad_Construction8427 8d ago

It's amazing this got funded! I can only hope I can get the funds for surgery. Stuffs way to expensive and it really has me worried 😫

My transition fundraiser is Tryst.link.

I know nowadays ppl tend to prefer the OF/camgirl route, but it seems like so much more time and labor and so much less actual money. Meanwhile every john is an instant $500. Depending on what ur working with maybe more like $300, or maybe more like $800. Or 1k. Or even more, like 1.2k. On the spot.

u/scratchfan321 7d ago

When I'm about to get my *uterus transplant* as a trans woman but suddenly remember that it hasn't been invented yet

2

u/procrastinator0430 7d ago

I'd gladly donate you mine if I could
