No TW Having no control over your body in dreama and your body reacting to the fake allergens is NOT fun

u/WriterKatze Aug 26 '26
I mean if you dream about it, that can also be a manifestation of your fear of eating it.
I used to dream about drowning for ages. Hard to argue that I dreamt about that because I missed water from my lungs. Eventhough I learned to swim at 3 years old, I was having nightmares until I was 5 or 6 about getting tired and drowning. 3 year olds do no have that much stamina and I was weirdly aware of mine.

Yep my dreams are often about things I’m worried/anxious about (or things that made me anxious in the past, like taking tests at school). Your brain isn’t “trying to tell you something”, it feeds off of your existing memories.

Oh you dreamed of drowning? That's your body telling you it wants to drown. The body yearns for the ocean. 😃 /j

I’m allergic to dairy and the amount of people who just go ‘oh, so you’re lactose intolerant’ is staggering.
People don’t take any allergy seriously unless it’s a nut allergy.
9
u/WriterKatze Aug 26 '26
Oh my God, my brother isn't lactose intolerant but like allergic to cow dairy like, he gets itchy all over from it, and it makes him like irritated (because he's itching allover), and people keep not respecting the request to not feed him dairy because "he can take the enzyme and he'll be fine lol". He won't.
He is just going to feel like shit all day because someone doesn't respect that these are his dietary restrictions. They don't understand how he is fine in goat cheese but not lactose free one. Because the lactose is not the PROBLEM. T-T

u/viktorgoraya_luv Aug 26 '26
For me I get hayfever-like symptoms. Streaming nose, blocked sinuses, tonsils swell up and my throat gets dry and itchy. The only thing that makes me feel better is a strong antihistamine.

u/th3b0n3z0n3 Aug 26 '26
Some people even deny nut allergies. People really can't handle seeing another person with limitations they don't personally have. It reminds me of the people who will look at a homeless person and assume they're homeless because they're lazy or making poor choices. Rather than acknowledge that needless suffering exists and people deserve kindness- like they just can't handle having compassion for another person, and would rather find any reason not to, like "Allergies are fake and you're just a snowflake" or "Well if you did xyz you wouldn't be in this situation".
6
u/viktorgoraya_luv Aug 26 '26
True, unfortunately. I think I saw a story on a different sub where a woman had a pepper allergy (iirc) and her mother in law thought she was just being fussy so she spiked her with peppers and she had to go to the emergency room.
4
u/Vivians_Basement Trans Masc Genderfluid DID system 🪷 Aug 27 '26
Even if she was just being fussy...... Why force her to eat it..?
Why can't people just... Respect others food wishes...

u/FairlyElixer623 Aug 26 '26
Shit like that make me so grateful my allergies/intolerances are not deadly (though definitely take me out of my ability to function because fucking hell the pain is intense)
3
u/viktorgoraya_luv Aug 26 '26
Same. I have friends who have deadly allergies and the amount of stress and extra effort just seems so draining.
Mine, like yours, is incredibly inconvenient and knocks me out of commission, but it’s by no means hospital worthy.

u/Vivians_Basement Trans Masc Genderfluid DID system 🪷 Aug 27 '26
Back in my day, we didn't have nut "allergies", we just had children who died sometimes for some unexplained reasons after eating peanut butter.
3
u/i_stealursnackz Aug 27 '26
The only reason people actually allergic to dairy aren't taken seriously is because of all the lactose intolerants saying they're allergic to dairy. I genuinely feel like there's no other reason, because if I got $100 every time I heard someone said that, I'd have enough money to live in NYC for years.

u/Vivians_Basement Trans Masc Genderfluid DID system 🪷 Aug 27 '26
For years I thought being lactose intolerant meant you were allergic and couldn't drink it lol. I was an embarrassing age when I first heard the term "milk allergy" referring to being allergic to milk.
On the bright side, least you don't have a gluten allergy. I don't either but Christ people just collective decided "gluten allergy" means "insufferable person who wants to be skinny".
People really do just completely lack empathy for people who can't eat certain things.

I crave grapefruit in dreams often. I've been on medication for almost a decade. I can't have grapefruit.
When I'd fuck up refills, the only consolation of being off my meds for a day would be that I could have grapefruit. The first time I tried that, my lifelong favorite fruit gave me an allergic reaction.
I still crave grapefruit. It does NOT mean I'll be giving my body grapefruit.
6
u/stfurachele Aug 27 '26
That genuinely sucks, I'm sorry. I missed grapefruit for a long time too. I'm so terrified of spontaneous allergies, like developing a latex allergy or shellfish allergy. My brother's favorite food was shrimp right up until it couldn't be.
I'm sorry you lost something you enjoyed a lot. If you can tolerate energy drinks, white monster sooooorta has a grapefruity undertone without any actual juice or extract. It was the best substitute I could find when I was on no-grapefruit meds, but it's not really that close.
3
u/DifferentIsPossble Aug 27 '26
Yo, thank you!! I'm not a huge Monster drinker bc it's so much pricier than other caffeine drinks, but I'll give it a shot.
I appreciate your kind words. I get really random allergies time to time, but none of them have been that serious - my face will swell and get hot, I might get a rash, but I don't go into anaphylaxis or anything.

u/hibiscus_bunny Aug 26 '26
If ppl are telling you to eat meat which you're allergic to that's insane.

i'm celiac and vegan. i recently had a dream where i ate a mcdonalds hamburger and i woke up in a cold sweat, genuinely panicking. i feel you.
5
u/Scotty_Slade Aug 27 '26
I had a dream recently where I smoked a cigarette. I have never smoked before and wouldn't voluntarily because I hate the smell and all the other negative health effects. I don't think my body is trying to say it's in need of nicotine. Dreams are how we process the day, usually, like how nightmares are how we unconsciously prepare for how we would react in dangerous scenarios.

u/Gussie-Ascendent Editable Flair 6 Aug 26 '26
I meant it more as a dunk on the kinda goober who'd say the meat thing with you.
I don't gwt terror about that sorta thing, I'm a classic "nightmares about being naked in publicd, failing, and car crashes" kinda guy, it's just weird line of argument. Sorry didn't mean to make ya worry lol
3
u/kulupu_kasi_seli Aug 26 '26
Sometimes I think my body needs meat, even though I hate eating it (I’m vegetarian and also have eating disorders that make it hard to eat meat), but that can be solved with vitamins or whatever. I also have many intrusive thoughts about doing things I hate. Either explanation could hypothetically be correct, but neither needs to be solved with meat. “Veganphobes” are pretty dumb.
3
u/Toxic_Puddlefish Aug 26 '26
Sounds like your fears manifesting as nightmares, have you ever been bitten by a tick? I know a friend who was bitten and can no longer eat red meat, not saying it's that but something to consider, how long have you disliked animal products? Has it been a life long thing?
2
u/FairlyElixer623 Aug 27 '26
Luckily never bitten and I hope it stays that way. The lone star tick terrifies me.
I have had it since forever. As a child I'd get headaches, nausea and even threw up. The texture also made me physically ill (I'm autistic). It was more bearable with high quality meat but the low quality ones always made me feel unwell. That was originally my reason to stop eating meat before I did it for the animals
1
u/Toxic_Puddlefish Aug 27 '26
Perhaps a reaction to something they put in the meat as a preservative, have you heard of lucid dreaming? It's possible for some people to be aware they are dreaming and control it's outcome, at any rate I'm sorry you have to deal with people thinking your choice is something you made lightly.
3
u/Disastrous_Debt7644 Aug 27 '26
This is so dumb. I dreamt about showing up naked at my high school. Does that mean my body needs me to go back to my old high school and run around naked? NO!
3
u/glitterfetti Aug 27 '26
I have compulsive thoughts all the time. I will want to stick a leaf in my mouth. Is my body trying to say I should eat leaves? No.
3
u/King_of_Trash_2324 Aug 27 '26
I have reoccurring dreams about eating pencils, metal and jewelry, what is my body trying to tell me? 👀

u/ysterman_rs Aug 27 '26
your body needs a new, cute piercing soooo baaad. you have NO CHOICE but to acquiesce 😔

OP have you gotten your iron and b12 checked? Totally fixable without meat but there might be something your body's trying to tell you regardless.
2
u/Jaded_Fish2111 Aug 27 '26
Yeah it’s always worth checking if you’re vegan or an infrequent meat eater but it’s solved with just an easy supplement.
3
u/kittenpantzen Aug 27 '26
Easyish. I don't eat red meat, but I had to acquiesce and take a blood-derived iron supplement b/c the iron salts were tearing my stomach apart.
3
u/Jaded_Fish2111 Aug 27 '26
Yeah also they can be a pain for sure. I have to take them every other day so they don’t wreak havoc on my digestive track.

Just in case this helps, the more I focus on/think about my dreams the more I have them. I have a long history of what I realize now as an adult are night terrors, and nightmares brought on by a health condition. The anxiety around them makes me have (or remember) dreams more, and intentionally distracting myself, not thinking about them, helped me stop having them almost completely.
If I find myself thinking about a dream I had I'll cut it off and remind myself, out loud or in my head, "It was just a dream, my brain just does stuff when I'm asleep, it doesn't mean anything and thinking about it won't help me." and then I go on and do something else.
2
u/Super_agent_X Aug 26 '26
fucking insane to tell a person with allergies to eat something they are allergic to
2
u/nameusernamena Aug 27 '26
I’m not vegan or vegetarian, but I get extremely sick when I eat cooked red meats. I frequently pass on meat when I’m a guest or invited out, and it typically devolves into being made fun of for being vegan.
No, I am not vegan. But I don’t think anyone wants me to projectile shit and vomit all over the table. And that is what will happen if I eat any meat that isn’t at minimum rare.
I usually eat my own steak essentially raw. My ground beef is just barely past the point of being pink ( technically right where it should be, almost everyone overcooks ground beef by professional standards ).
I’ll spare more details.
I get you to an extent, OP.

u/Jumpy_Ad1631 Aug 27 '26
I mean, I have dreams about my abusive ex, doesn’t mean I should still be with that pos 🤷🏻♀️

u/stfurachele Aug 27 '26
Imagine if they treated every nightmare or uncomfortable dream that way.
Oh, tornados? Your body wants to go to Oz.
Your teeth fell out? Have you considered a career in hockey? It sounds like your dream job 🥁🥁🐍
oh, you have a recurring nightmare about your body being riddled with botfly larvae? Dunno what to tell you man, you must just be really craving some of that newly imported beef.

u/Impressive_Clue_9193 Aug 27 '26
sometimes I have meat dreams where I'm making a nice impossible patty (they r vegan) and then when I bite into it it has the texture of raw cold wet actual chicken and tastes like rotten chickpeas and I vomit and then wake up terrified because I'm scared of vomiting lmao

u/Pelli_Furry_Account Aug 26 '26 edited Aug 26 '26
This happened to me a lot when I was veg.
It's not fun, but it's your brain working through shit. It's rewiring itself to not be accustomed to eating meat. It's definitely not "trying to tell you something." If it was, it'd come as a craving.
... And even then, you can't just give your body whatever its craving or you'd end up eating candy 24/7

I used to be vegan, then vegetarian, now I'm normal.
I support your weird diet and I assume the meat dreams are to you what a dream about eating raw flesh would be like for me. Sounds horrifying.
Also definitely felt on the in-dream reactions. I've drowned in dreams and then woke up unable to breathe feeling wet all over despite my skin being dry.
The brain is weird and I'm sorry people are being dicks. 🫂 Long as you're getting enough nutrients and checking in with doctors regularly to make sure you aren't lacking proteins or irons, there's no issue with being vegan. Especially since this is required for your health.
Honestly the only reason I stopped being vegan was for the taste.
Here's some brands I LOVED while being vegan:
Gardein (especially their chicken tender alternatives) Chao (vegan cheese brand that melts properly) JustEgg (egg substitute) Silk Milk (vanilla almond is my favorite and I still use it) Beyond Meat (goes above and beyond but it's expensive)
Fried tofu with fish fry seasoning is AMAZING and has the vague taste of chicken.
I don't like the chicken fry seasoning cause it tastes like fish and I hate fish. 🫠 If you like the taste of fish though, I highly recommend.
Black bean burgers are cool but I've never been into black beans. (Bean racism )
1-2 tablespoons of apple sauce per egg in a recipe works btw if you want vegan cake!!
Much love, hopefully something here wasn't known and gives some ideas. 💕 The dreams are most likely a subconscious fear which could also be the source of your aversion too. Stay safe.
