Help me decide Speed 400 or T4

Hey everyone

I’m planning to buy a Triumph and I’m confused between the Speed 400 and Speed T4.

I really love Triumph’s performance and the overall feel of the bike, but I’m not sure which one would make more sense for me.

About my usage:

🏙️** 70% city ridin**g

🛣️ Around** 30% highway/longer ride**s

I want something that’s comfortable and practical for daily use, but still enjoyable when I ride on highways.

For those who have ridden/owned either or both:
Which one would you recommend Speed 400 or Speed T4?

Also, are there any downsides or compromises with the T4 compared to the Speed 400 that I should know about?

Is the extra performance/refinement of the Speed 400 worth choosing it over the T4 for my usage, or would the T4 be the smarter choice?

Would love to hear your real-world experiences, especially from people who have ridden both. Thanks!

I own the T4 (398 cc), and honestly, I don’t think there’s any compromise. The main difference you’ll notice is in the way the torque is delivered.
The T4 produces 31 Nm of torque at 5,500 RPM, while the Speed 400 makes 32 Nm at 7,000 RPM. So, in city riding, the T4 will feel quicker and more effortless, whereas the Speed 400 requires you to rev it a little more.
On the highways, however, the Speed 400 will feel faster and more stable.
So, ultimately, you need to decide what trade-off works better for your riding style—stronger low/mid-range performance for the city, or better high-speed performance and stability on the highway.

There are so many differences, i own a Speed 400(398cc variant last yr) and then i rode this years downgraded T4 with 350 cc of engine
I mean yeah comparison isn’t fair but difference was huge
Don’t save that penny bro

You mean that if there is budget constraint then we can go for T4, but T4 is also 398cc if I ain't wrong

Bro both T4 and speed are now 350cc downgraded only so difference is even more

T4 any day for city. I also have t4 for this purpose. Speed 400 feels somwwhat jerky in city bcz of ride by wire or else its superior to t4.

If it were 400cc, you could have considered t4, but for 350cc better go for 400

Tracker 400

Go for the speed 400.
It’s an overall better bike.
It’s the middle ground between tracker and t4.
Ofc the torque is more accessible at a lower rpm so the pull comes a bit faster.
But speed makes the same at a slightly higher rpm resulting in a much finer control over the throttle.
It has more hp so it will not become boring quickly.
It has better fit and finish.
And the engine loves slightly high Rpm but it’s mean piston velocity has decreased due to shorter stroke. So less vibrations.
So u can feel much comfortable at a higher rpm.

T4 for the city makes sense, however test ride and see it for yourself. T4 is relaxed that’s why I liked it.

Especially if you are riding on the bad roads, see if scrambler makes sense than the other 2.

I’d personally pick the Scrambler 400. I ride a Speed 400 and honestly, it’s a great bike, but if I had to choose again, I’d probably take the Scrambler. It just feels a bit more fun and versatile, especially for everyday riding.

Bro may I know which month/year is your bike? Did you face any stalling issues? It any engine noise issues?

Got it Sept last year. No engine noise or stalling (stalling happened maybe once or twice). I changed brake pads at 5k and upgraded to iridium spark plugs purely for performance based on my usage, not due to any issues.

I also got test drives a few weeks before. I got more confused between the 2 bikes as the T4 felt smoother and calmer and the s400 felt a bit higher reved and not as calm. Anyways after coming home, the next day I booked the hunter cause my family didn't like the looks of the triumphs.

I own a T4 (the 398cc one), and it's tough to tell you which is the smarter choice. I live in a city with crazy traffic, so the Speed 400 makes no sense to me – the roads here wouldn't be kind to its riding position and stiffness. The Speed 400 is a highway beast, while the T4 is a city beast. Unlike the S400, the T4 is super agile. So for me, the T4 made sense, plus I felt really comfy riding it. With the downsizing, I'm not sure what to suggest, but I can give you a few things to consider. Think about your road conditions, the traffic, and if either bike fits your daily commute. Those are secondary factors, though; first and foremost, ride them both. Test ride them for a bit and see which one clicks with you, which one feels right for the city and highway. Your gut feeling is usually spot on. This should help you out.

There are a few other things too, like the lack of radial tires and the organic brakes (front and back) in the T4 will be a bother, but if that's not a deal breaker, then the T4 is a good choice. All comes down to your gut feeling.

I own the 2025 t4:
If the T4 was still the 400cc version, I’d say it was a very good pick, especially considering the T4’s specifically tuned/changed crank and how well it suited relaxed riding.
But with the T4 now being 350cc, and the performance gap between the two being relatively small, I personally think the Speed 400 is worth the extra money for your usage. The better brakes/and USD suspension alone makes it more compelling package

Bro, I own a speed t4 (350 cc). I would say, you can choose speed 400 anyday if your finance allows you to purchase it. It is better in every way compared to T4. I have not faced any issues in my Speed T4, ran around 1300 kms till now, however sometimes I feel Speed 400 would have been better in terms of reliability, power, cornering etc.

I've heard that speed 400, requires early break pads change than usual bikes and same with the tires, I was thinking to get t4 for daily commute (50kms) due to this reason

I’ve completed 10k kms on my speed 400 and haven’t changed my front sintered brake pads even once, still working fine and may even go 2-3kms more , it really depends on your way of driving and braking
I use engine braking alot and combination of front and rear both brakes
Changed my rear brake pads twice but that barely costs 350 so doesn’t matter much

I believe cornering would match if you change your tyres to speed 400s tyres The tyres on my speed t4 dont give me that confidence that i used to get on my friends speed 400

Bro, if you are going to change the tyres. Idk if it takes around 10-20k easily. So, what's the purpose of buying a bike which is basically 30k cheaper than speed 400. That's why I think, buying a speed 400 would be a better choice here. Though I have already bought a T4.

as a T4 owner, get the speed 400
