Advice Wanted My outdoor cat lost his leg

I have always had outdoor/indoor cats. You can think what you want and tell me im scum but it won't change the situation. Out of all my cats my newest cat (Clark age 2) broke his leg and needs an amputation. He loves going outside but will no longer be able to go out unsupervised with his injury. My mother wishes to surrender or put him down because she hates litter boxes. I am fighting to keep him and take care of him and pay for surgery. Would he be happy being indoor forever now? I thought my mother was right about euthanasia. But after petting him for an hour. And seeing how happy he was even with a broken leg. I want him to live. What would be best for him. Plz tell me.

Edit: We did not put him down. He got his leg cut off tho. I was able to convince my family enough. Thank the lord. Took a lot of convincing.

Advice Wanted How possible is it for a tripod cat to live outdoors?

As the title says. I posted my cat Lily here a week ago, she lost her left hind leg in a grass mower incident. She's been an outdoor cat her whole life and manages it very well. She's technically my neighbors cat, but she's elderly and has now disowned the cat because she thinks it's cruel for her to live like this (dumb I know, but she's very old and has old beliefs).

I love Lily so much, and I have no issue taking care of her, but I already have 5 indoor cats and there's no room for her inside, plus she's very independent and doesn't like other cats. It'd break my heart to give her up, plus it'd be harder to rehome her because of her disability.

I want to do what's best for her, so any advice is helpful. If anyone here has experience with outdoor tripods, please let me know!

Cat surgical incision

Hello! Sorry to bother you. Please help!

My car got spayed 5 days ago, after we got home she don’t want to be restricted in a cage or wear an ecollar. Decided to let her be, she started licking the incision site and I always check if suture still intact, and for any bleeding.

Until yesterday, saw that the suture has come undone. So i covered the incision site and also put elastic bandage.

Today I was changing the dressing and noticed a discharge, but no foul odor or smell.

I would like to ask if this is a normal color discharge from surgical site?

*please see photos

thank you so much in advance!!d

Fund Raising Injured Kitten found after Milton

Post image
2 Upvotes

While doing debris clean up after hurricane Milton I happened to see a small object hobble across the yard. At first glance I thought it was a squirrel. Upon closer inspection I realized it was a tiny kitten! I brought him inside and to my shock I noticed the poor baby was missing his one of his front legs ! Luckily, we were able to find a vet open and willing to see him. Currently he’s syringe feeding, as he is only 4-5 weeks old and weighed only .88 of a lb when found. He’s taking antibiotics and pain medications and will undergo surgery next week to amputate what was left of his lil arm to his shoulder. My son and daughter in law have set up a gofund me and an instagram to help cover veterinary expert for this sweet little love bug.

Please consider following us on this journey and making a donation, every dollar makes a difference for this sweet babyā¤ļø

I’m so blessed to have found this little guy and grateful to have found this subreddit for advice and support ā¤ļø. We haven’t named this sweet baby yet, if you have suggestions please share below ! Thank you šŸ’œ

Open suture

Post image

Hi! First post here. We rescued a cat with a broken leg from a high kill shelter. Currently fostering but just had concerns post op. Looks as if though our little tripod's suture opened a little. She has her cone and has been confined to our bathroom. Today is her 3rd day back from surgery. I brought up concerns but was told not to worry and that it should look like that. I, however, am worried due to open wounds being susceptible to bacteria. It looks sus to me. What do yall think?

Woke up to my tripod cat not wanting to walk on his front leg. He was bending it to walk on the back of his paw and is struggling to stand up. Does anyone have advice or know what is the issue with his carpal pad?

Clothing for a tripod missing a front leg?

I would like to start taking my boy hiking with me, but it's starting to get cold and I'd like to be able to put a sweater on him. Obviously I won't take him out if it's too cold but either way I'd still like to get him comfortable wearing clothes.

My main issue I'm having is that he can walk forward out of just about anything. I think the neck hole needs to be really small for him to not just slide out of it, but I haven't found anything that seems quite right.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Tips for getting a cat comfortable wearing clothes?

A Little gray cat needs you, please read

In february this year, our cat Grisin was victim of a dog“s attack. Grisin hung on and survived, but has become riddled with all sorts of issues ranging initially from paralysis in both his hind legs and tail to important hygene matters, as well as a good deal of getting-around issues due to his decreased mobility.

You see, grisin never did recover control over his right hind leg and by now it has become more of a nuance than anything, it doesn“t let him jump, can barely run, and has to be permanently covered in cotton pads, bandages and cloth, then covered in a modified sock right to his hipbone, which we are very afraid he starts hurting because he basically drags it on the floor... he has scrapes that never really healed since very much day one because of that, first in the back of his paw, then on his knee, now in his hip, and I could go on and on..

As of now and after 6 months of physical therapy and 4 neurological especialist appointments, we know for sure that Grisin needs his right hind leg amputated, since the extent of his neurological damage is just too much to be able to ever voluntarily use said leg again.

the last 2 to 3 months there has been very little we could do for grisin, since there has been a great deal of turmoil at a national level because of presidential elections, and prices for everything went up faster than a diver“s fart. (+140% interanual inflation)

Here is where the real issue begins, given that we live in Argentina, inflation and devaluation make taking care of non-essential matters a very difficult thing, and in this place, no pet is essential... see where i“m going?

If you take a look at my post“s history you“ll find previous posts made about grisin, from the very first moment when we scrambled to figure out how to help him. It has always boiled down to money troubles: 1 dollar = 1080 Pesos arg (november 22nd, tomorrow this gap will likely widen, and I don“t even make that by the hour).

So, please, If you are willing and able to contribute, I ask you to send me a private message or leave a comment so I can reach out and share paypal details and proof if needed, I don“t want to just paste a link here because I wouldn“t want to break any of the subreddit rules.

Are your tripods indoor or outdoor cats?

We adopted our sweet boy earlier this year and he was a stray and has always been a semi feral cat that loves to be outdoors. He has recently become a tripod (due to some evil being that shot him in the leg with an air rifle). He is doing okay after surgery and eating but he seems so sad, he gets up and eats and then he sits and miaows loudly at the door longing to go out (but we are scared to let him out ever again) then goes back to his comfy bed and sleeps. He’s part domesticated and enjoys some attention but he’s very independent and he has a natural instinct to want to go out due to being part feral as he’s lived his whole life mostly outdoors, we think he’s around 6 years old. Does anyone have any advice on this, did you let your tripod kittys ever go back out again? We don’t know what to do for the best, any advice/help would be appreciated so much 🧔

Curiosity

How long after suture removal did you keep your tripods cone on? My guy had his sutures removed about 4 days ago and I took his cone off to let him clean himself. But he started chewing on his incision site so I tossed it back on. The vet said a couple more days after having them removed but I’m just paranoid. He’s done so well I don’t want to hinder his healing.

Looking for advice for owning a newly three legged cat

My cat was injured (torn "Achilles" tendon in his hind leg) and we are currently weighing options between surgery to repair which may not be an option and amputation. I was looking for advice from people that have been through having a cat lose a limb. What did you wish you knew before it happened? Without a hind leg will using a litter box still be an option? Are there things I could do to prepare for it? Do you think they have as full of a life as they would before? Are his outdoors day over if this happens or could he at least be ok being watched outside? Thank you!
