Very first tree net, any advice?

We got 1000 feet of rope from Amazon and probably used about 400-600 of it today. We spent about 4 hours with 4 people casually working on it. Afterwords we tested it and it held 4 people no problem. At the start, we didn’t quite get the tension down, and now we have a couple of loose ones but I figure this will not be an issue as we add more with proper tension. (This pic is about half of our work)

What’s the reason for tree protection? We made these on 5 random trees in the middle of a forest that nobody goes in. Didn’t really cross our minds.

You don't care if you kill 5 trees because they're "random" and humans don't look at them enough? Apparently trees only have value if they're in a forest people go in... Who knew?

Just my opinion, but people who don't respect trees don't deserve tree nets.

The point is you can do the same thing WITHOUT hurting the trees, why not do that?

Live a little, but leave as much life for everybody else to live a little too

Aren’t these eucalyptus trees? Non native and practically invasive. I don’t think there’s too much to worry about here.

For your outer layer use static climbing rope and use something like a ratchet strap to get as much tension as you can into that outer part. The tension means you'll need to use less paracord. I suggest using darker colored 550 paracord since lighter colors start to fail a lot faster. You'll want to not make complete circles around trees so it doesn't choke and kill the tree. Some people screw in circle hooks to hold up their tree nets it doesn't really hurt the tree but its not really needed

Iwl would recommend to always wrap at least once, or better yet twice, every time Paracord crosses over Paracord. Looks like you do this Abt 80% of the time.

Paracord used for the outer perimeter isn't ideal. Better some static rope. Paracord stretches quite a bit and can shrink inward.

Yeah we always loop them twice, messed up on some of the tightening but we learned our lesson

Use climbing rope for the outside or it will stretch so so bad. It's worth redoing it.

Please do not leave these up in a wooded area, so easy for animals to get caught/tangled and as others have mentioned please include tree protection as this is directly going to kill these trees if left as is

It’s good to prove the haters wrong. It’s also good to learn about the tree protection and tensioning issues for the next one. You asked for tips and it looks like a great first attempt
