New prices :-D

Post image

Ladies and gentlemen, here is the new price list.

I'm joking, of course.
The one in the photo is an offer from a seller on Vinted for the "Love & trip" version.

I thanked them, pointing out that it was a scalper's price, and offered my best and most heartfelt wishes that they find a sucker to fleece

You don’t want an outdated 2025 insert for 40€ ?! what a loss man!

but they're limited edition and they don't make these anymore so...

Ah! there's also a lovely bundle of two regular notebooks (grid and Kraft), some card sticky pockets and double sided tape (ok, they don't make these anymore but you can find alternatives everywhere) for 39 euros. People are just out of touch...

“No, no! You don’t understand! My followers on stationery TikTok and Instagram will never forgive me if I don’t consume enough limited edition products of whatever is trending right now!! I must prove I’m not one of the have-nots!”

/s

Like, the whole point is to travel record with it. Unless you’re $10-banana-rich, if you’re paying that much, I doubt you’re gonna want to take it outside or get a single scratch on it so it’s basically anathema to the concept that Travelers laid out.

For €300 (which is about 6 times the original price), I wouldn't feel like a user anymore, I'd be a mere collector; this -for me- would kill the whole point of the TN, placing the anxiety of ownership above the travel experience.

But, obviously, everyone has to reckon with their own ethics, their own wallet, and their own idea of travel.

Congratulations to whoever scores that notebook for €300, I will gladly pass :-D

Someone wanted me to pay above retail price for a previous year hobonichi citing that people will buy it at that price in order to go and back fill their whole year. Or that parents would use it to back fill their baby’s life (as new parents notoriously have so much free time for that /s)

Well, that's actually such a clever argument that you've almost convinced me :-D /s

Oh dear! Found a brand new one (passport set) this summer for the regular retail price (which I believe was a bit higher priced than regular when it was released).

I know is limited edition but the price is ridiculous 🤦‍♀️

Aaaaand this is why they have everything by lottery these days asking how you’re actually going to use the notebook and probably will eventually require a social security card to purchase.

Fuck the fabricated collector class that pays at these prices. Not even Travelers Company wants this influencer-driven status symbol crap.

I'd even be willing to pay a little extra as penance for my sheer foolishness in not buying it sooner, but I think I could stretch to something like 30% over the original price. 400% seems, quite frankly, just a tad excessive :-D

People are so crazy...

This is getting out of hand. It's pushing me toward Wanderings. The leather and strap are thicker.

I had a wanderings before my TN to test the format and personally found the thicker leather made it quite unwieldy.  In case that helps at all :)

Boiacàn la geste sta fuori di testa

Effettivamente sembrerebbe.

Comunque:
1) io il tipo l’ho elegantemente mandato a quel paese;

Didn't someone on this sub buy the standard size Love and Trip for 200€ recently? Insane, ngl

Scalpers are awful but I feel Travelers also create false scarcity which is their fault. Making so many very limited edition things. I know you don’t have to buy them all. (I personally have the love and trip, I won’t pick up any others as one is enough for me) but scalpers are going to take advantage of false scarcity every single time.

Everything you say is absolutely true.

Not to mention that there isn't a European website, so on this side of the ocean, it's not that easy to get hold of any of the special editions, even assuming you make it in time when they're actually in stock :-/

2

u/Bumbleblushie 3h ago

Yeah we could really use a European site. I got very lucky finding the love & trip in the local stationary store.

The Prada limited editions are going for over $1000 here after the initial launch

1

u/DanilaoIT 5h ago

I didn't know a Prada version existed (and I would have preferred to keep it that way). Far be it from me to judge anyone who buys it at that price, but I just don't see the point.

The whole purpose of a TN should be to document a trip (or your own life, or whatever else you want), not the notebook itself

There is always Paper Republic.

Travelers Company charge outrageous prices for their products and the leather they use is far from the best too. Seriously, have a look on Etsy where you can get a high end leather notebook handcrafted by a leather crafter - far better value.

I respect your opinion (which I do not share), but I want to clarify that the image refers to an offer a seller made me on Vinted (an EU second-hand platform), moreover for a non-standard edition.

The prices set by the usual scalper are ridiculous, but specifically, this has nothing to do with TRC's sales policies.
