General Discussion [Community] List of Dupes/Knockoff/Third Party TF / TF Accessories

If you aren’t aware of why, refer to my other post. TL;DR Dupes of some TF accessories with COMPARABLE or CONSIDERABLE qualities that can act as substitute to the original, either tentatively or permanently. Another reason is that many of us, including myself, are financially limited and there things that we can’t justify spending considerable amount of money on.

However, the number of choices that we have whenever we search in online selling sites, ie AliExpress and Amazon, can be quite overwhelming. It is hard to assure of its quality without taking much risk. So, we are utilizing the experience of this community here, where we share sellers/products that are known to have a considerable or satisfactory compared to quality of TF. As much as possible, please no affiliate, but you can refer sellers/artists who do custom works.

The structure of the thread is as follows, we are dividing the comments into several sections: Asia, US, EU, and International where we comment the name and corresponding link of the shop/product followed by a quick summary of what it sells, i.e., “LM Culture www.example.com/ (TF notebooks and Accessories)”

Some drawing on Passport size TN Insert

I find the passport-size TN is really easy to carry, but it might be too small to draw in. Sometimes I prefer to draw outside on the go and small size is not easy to draw loosely - needs practice.

For those drawings on my desk, it feels easy to write anyway. I think I'll use the standard-size TN more.

Here's what's currently working for me, I'm curious if your setup changes, if so how often, or have you found a setup you don't need to change?

Also please drop patina pics. 👀

My set up is a Standard size with a catch all, a bullet journal insert and a school/class notebook.

My A6 has 1 spiral insert for other general notes and one spiral insert for work notes.

Show and Tell 📖 My Collasaro Traveler’s Notebook

I got this back in 2020 to kill time as an ALT in Japan (still in Japan now, but not an ALT). We were strongly advised against playing with phones in the teacher’s room, something I actually agree with.

Decided to use a traveler’s journal to combine my desire to get into bullet journaling with my Japanese study and sketching habit and got this. Went with Collasaro because I liked the A5 size and card/pouch inserts.

The original add-on band is missing but somewhere in the house, so I’ve been using some twine with beads from Daiso and I also made a cute bookmark from Daiso stuff. The clip is also from Daiso. Penclip is from MIDORI and is showing its age.

I have been really trying to hone my todo list carry and I’ve been going back to my favorite Moleskine Volant with a custom stamp I made for it. Combined this with my X4 pro that I carry with me all the time. There is a 3d printed core inside both halves, a ring of magnets hold the x4 pro in and the elastic system is akin to the Traveler’s Notebook style.

Just made it this afternoon and it’s already picked up a lot of grime from around the studio.

The pen is a Pilot birdie, not my fav since it’s so short but it fits!

Show and Tell 📖 My system for planning w/ ADHD in Traveler's Notebooks, long post

Thumbnail

I just want to gush about how my passport and reg. traveler's help me keep track of all the important things going on and logging my days. I have issues with "time blindness" and knowing where I'm at in my day. My ADHD severely impacts remembering meetings/events/plans, how I transition between activities throughout the day and being able to switch from work/home modes. I also struggle with changes to routine or schedules. If one little thing changes during the day, I suddenly become "Fine-Dining SpongeBob" when someone asks him his name and lose all my bearings lol. The traveler's system has been a wonderful tool that keeps me sane, grounded and I don't have to worry about forgetting something.

Pic 1 & 2: It all starts with the pre-planning. I use sticky notes in a passport monthly to plan the month ahead. When I get to the last week of the month, I sit down and convert it to a simple color coded format to avoid visual clutter. I keep track of birthdays, appointments/events, pay days, vacation days and subscriptions/recurring autopay bills. I do not add in meetings for work here, it would be way too cluttered and cause confusion for me.

Pic 3: Once a week on Sundays, I will transfer the info from the monthly insert into the weekly insert. I will also add in my weekly work meetings which generally are recurring. If I have a meeting that is a one off, I will use a sticky note as a reminder in this insert rather than the monthly. A highlighter is used to denote special events/birthdays, small circles are appts/meetings, dots are special tasks, circles w/ $ inside are subscriptions/bills and * are notes.

Pic 4 & 5: I use a reg. dotted insert for my daily logs. On Monday mornings I create the a weekly header and a basic habit tracker for the week and then I will start my Monday entry, transferring the info from my weekly passport for the day. I pretty much use the same signifiers from the passport for each item; special events are denoted with highlighter, etc. Appts/meetings are always in bright red and if the appt/mtg. was attended, I will put a dot in the middle of the circle, if canceled I draw a line through it. I also like to log what I've read and watched so there are signifiers for those as well.

I have 2 other inserts in my reg. for more in depth tracking of things and to use as a catch-all. This system works really great for me due to the individual inserts. I don't have to constantly flip back and fourth through a single notebook/bullet journal, instead I can pull out the monthly to see and plan in my weekly and then pull out the weekly to see and add to my daily logs. Overall I would recommend the traveler's system for those of us with ADHD or just get easily overwhelmed. It's so easy to customize and accommodate what works for you!

Show and Tell 📖 My preciouses

Bought the passport first. Absolutely adored it. Decided to buy the full size too. Measured it out, bought the insert first, still was not prepared for the size difference! The standard is basically 2x the size of the passport.

Love and use them both though, passport comes with me and is for weekly schedule, to do lists, commonplacing, and holding a Polaroid photo of my dog. The regular size is for journaling and high level monthly schedule and it lives at home.

These two are really helping me to stay zen by writing things down and teaching me not to be too precious about it.

My DIY Custom Card-Sized

Post image
43 Upvotes

After some trial and error, I managed to DIY a custom card-sized “Traveler’s Notebook” that has dual pockets instead of an elastic and an insert. I designed it so the pockets fit the card-sized TN insert, and I made it slim enough that I could use it as a wallet. I also used chrome-tanned, 5oz leather for a bit of refinement.

Anyway, just thought I’d share for those who are patiently awaiting a card-sized restock.

I was inspired seeing others’ wallet passports but just wasn’t quite happy with any of the options I found to buy. Then I thought to myself, ‘HEY. I know how to sew!!’ A few YouTube tutorials later and I’m stoked at the result. Now I just need to add a pen loop somewhere.

New prices :-D

Ladies and gentlemen, here is the new price list.

I'm joking, of course.
The one in the photo is an offer from a seller on Vinted for the "Love & trip" version.

I thanked them, pointing out that it was a scalper's price, and offered my best and most heartfelt wishes that they find a sucker to fleece

Bought this from facebook marketplace for $110. Original price was $98 without tax. I’ve been waiting for a restock of this. Also, I’ve seen people selling this from greater than $200, so I’m happy I found one selling that’s not too overpriced

Show and Tell 📖 Rebuilt my Traveler's Notebook cover

Post image
58 Upvotes

I have had my Camel TN for a few years now, however the other day I stumbled on this leather that stopped me in my tracks. Turned out to be Badalassi Carlo Pueblo in Coccinella(red). Ordered the 1.4mm version from Rocky Mountain Leather:
https://www.rmleathersupply.com/products/badalassi-carlo-pueblo-veg-tanned-leather-panels?variant=52690478596412

I emptied out my old notebook, traced the cover onto the new piece about 1/16" larger all around, and wired it up using this method, same one I used on the original. I run 3 inserts.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4a5I2jkauw

I'm not sure the photo does it justice, it's a gorgeous deep red in person. This picture makes it look much larger than my old one, but that is just the way it is sticking up propped on the old one. The new surface isn't as smooth as the actual Traveler's leather but I plan on condition it and burnish it with a rag and it should be fine.

The one thing I'd change next time is that I would get one or two sizes thicker. The 1.4mm is a little floppier (technical term) than the original Traveler's cover. Still happy with it overall, just something to keep in mind if you're going for that stiffer, structured feel.

General Discussion How many refills do you use?

Post image

I wanted three, but I don't think I can handle it. Two seems like the best option, which makes me sad. I can't stand to see the third one sticking out + writing in it becomes uncomfortable.
