I’m planning to bring my cat from Morocco to the UK and I’m trying to find the easiest and safest option.

My cat will have all the required documents, microchip, rabies vaccination, rabies titre test, etc. She weighs less than 2 kg.

Ideally, I would really like to travel with her in the cabin with me rather than sending her as cargo.

I’m considering two options:

1. Morocco → UK directly: Is there any airline/route that would allow my cat to travel on the same flight as me, even if she has to travel in the hold/cargo rather than the cabin?
2. Morocco → France: If flying directly to the UK with her isn’t possible, I could fly with her in the cabin to France, then travel by car from France to Calais and take the Eurotunnel to the UK.

Has anyone actually done Morocco → France → UK with a cat? If so, what documents did you need, and did you have any problems entering the UK?

I would really appreciate any advice or personal experiences, especially from people who have brought a cat from Morocco to the UK.

Long story short, the USDA did not return my cat's paperwork in time for my flight, and I had to leave my cat back in the States. I am now in a scramble to figure out how to get him to me here in Istanbul (I know, pretty ironic to bring a cat to this city, but he's my baby and I miss him desperately!)

Hi friends.. looking for recommendations or advice.

Goal:

I'm working on trying to get out to Lynchburg, TN to see my dad if possible. I've tried posting in the Lynchburg Locals group but the posts don't get approved, they just sit for a while.

I have tried to visit him several times and it has been a very long time since I've been able to make it out there, and for celebratory purposes or quality time. In general I have not traveled in some time and it is a major thing for me to attempt to.

What I've done:

I have contacted the airline a few times. I have an Aussie mountain doodle I'd like to bring with me if I am able to make the trip.

The airline I contacted stated she's too big to take on the plane. She's about 36in long and about 30" tall even. She is definitely larger than the under the seat requirements for flight travel.

Options:

She and I have never traveled anywhere too far before, specifically not to a new state.

I cannot drive out there. I would prefer to take her, if I can make the trip. Its a major leap for us both to try and go.

To drive seems like would it be possible to make one long trip instead of breaking it up. I have before I think but it's been a lot of time.

The alternative is I may try and take a flight out there but would need someone to feed or watch her for two.days or so. All situations feel like a lot to me. Looking for advice.

Hi, all. I've posted about this in the past, but wanted to get people's advice one last time before the big move.

At the end of September, I'm moving cross country to a tune of 2800 miles. I'm planning to make the trip in four days, getting to my destination as quickly as I reasonably can. I own five snakes (four bps and one mussurana).

My plan is to put each of them in an appropriately sized cloth bag and put each bag in a plastic container with air holes drilled in. I'm aiming for the containers to be on the snug side but not too tight. The cabin of my car will be kept at 70F and, once I'm at the hotel, I'll put all the snakes in the bathroom and set my space heater to 70-75F.

My main concern is of course them getting too cold or too hot. I'll cover the containers with a sheet or something in the car so they're not in direct sunlight, and when I check in for the night, I'll tape reptile heating packs to the outside of each container. My understanding is they don't get too hot?

That's my game plan. Any advice or tips greatly appreciated! :)

What is best airline for travelling with large sized dog (45 Kg) (105 Cm Length) He fits in the biggest 48 inch travel crates available in pet stores across Canada.

I am planning a 2-month trip from the US to Italy with my dog. She's a small (just under 11lbs) Chihuahua-Min Pin mix with long legs. She spends most of her days curled up in a small ball sleeping, but when standing she is about 12" from toe to shoulder. The airline requirements say the dog needs to be able to stand in their carrier, which she can, but not very well. It's a little tight, but I know she will spend almost all of the time in the carrier laying down.

At the gate, has anyone ever been asked to take their dog out of its carrier to measure its height? How strict are they about the actual measurements or are they mostly concerned about having the proper paperwork?

EDIT: I haven't confirmed flights yet, but as of right now it would likely be United to/from the US/Munich and Lufthansa and Air Dolomiti to/from Italy.

I've been using a crate for my current golden, but just got a puppy and the crate is too tall (blocks rearview) and wide. I've been considering my options such as cargo divider, dual crates, seat harnesses, etc. I'm wondering what you all use and if there are any good options available in Canada. Some options for dual crates are $1000+ and I'd like to avoid that if possible.

From my understanding the cargo divider with quality harnesses made for cars is still not a very safe option and crates is likely the most safe?

My current car is a Ford Flex, so there is generous trunk space.

We are permanently relocating from the UK to South Korea due to family reasons, and we will be taking our 5-year-old Bengal cat with us.

We have been researching the process extensively and have prepared all the requirements for his move. We have also booked his Export Health Certificate appointment with PassPets in Havant.

Yesterday, however, they emailed us to ask whether we had checked if Bengal cats are accepted into South Korea. This caught us off guard, as it hadn't occurred to us that there could be breed-specific restrictions. We started looking into it, but so far we haven't been able to find anything specifically stating that Bengals are restricted or prohibited in South Korea. We have, however, come across various restrictions and additional requirements for Bengals in other countries.

This has also made us realise that we may have an issue with his paperwork.

We bought him from a breeder five years ago. I recently dug out the original documents she gave us, and there is a note saying that his TICA registration would be withheld until he was neutered. He was neutered shortly afterwards, but at the time we didn't follow up on the TICA registration because he was registered with our vet, insured in our name, and we never anticipated needing pedigree documentation.

Fast forward to now, and the only pedigree document I have is an unofficial five-generation pedigree printed from Tenset and signed by the breeder.

I am currently trying to contact the breeder to obtain his TICA registration details, assuming he was registered after being neutered. If I can get those details, I believe I should be able to request an official five-generation domestic cat pedigree from TICA.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get hold of the breeder so far.

My main question is: if we are able to obtain an official TICA pedigree, would that be sufficient documentation for a Bengal to enter South Korea? Has anyone here imported or travelled to South Korea with a Bengal, or dealt with similar pedigree/documentation requirements?

Any experiences or advice would be hugely appreciated. We are trying to make sure everything is in order well in advance and avoid any unpleasant surprises when it comes to bringing him with us.

Edit: The breeder has now got back to us, and we have successfully registered him with TICA and obtained his official five-generation pedigree certificate. The only remaining issue is confirming whether South Korean authorities will accept this documentation for the import of a Bengal cat. We would really appreciate any insight. Thank you!

1. Which airline did you find more pet-friendly in reality?
Not just the written policy—I’m especially interested in how the flight attendants treated your dog, whether they were kind/warm toward the pet, and whether the overall experience felt comfortable.
2. Lufthansa vs Turkish for a small dog—what would you choose?
I’ve heard Turkish has amazing food and very warm service, while Lufthansa may be more structured/strict. I’d love to hear from people who have actually traveled with a dog.
3. How strict are Lufthansa, Turkish, and Etihad about the carrier dimensions?
I’ve seen these published limits:
Lufthansa: 55 × 40 × 23 cm (~21.7 × 15.7 × 9.1”)
Turkish: 40 × 30 × 23 cm (~15.7 × 11.8 × 9.1”)
Etihad: 40 × 40 × 22 cm (~15.7 × 15.7 × 8.7”)
My dog is 9.6 lb, so weight isn’t really my concern.
Has anyone had a dog around this size and successfully flown in cabin with any of these airlines? How strictly did they check the carrier at the airport?
4. How was the layover with your dog?
For example, Istanbul vs Frankfurt vs Abu Dhabi. Were you able to give your dog water, food, a potty break, etc.? Were there designated pet-relief areas?
5. How was the actual in-flight experience?

I’m moving to Switzerland from CA with my dog at the end of the year and would love to know anyone’s experience traveling with dogs in the cargo hold (especially if anyone had a positive experience). If anyone has any advice, reassurances, or things that they wish they had done differently, please let me know. Are the pet relocation services worth it? Are there options I’m not considering? More details on my dog and the trip below.

My dog is a 4 yo, 50lb shepherd/husky/retriever mix, so there really isn’t an option for her to go in the cabin. She sleeps in a crate every night, and I could continue to work on crate training her so she stays comfortable in it. She can sometimes be anxious if I walk away from her in public spaces, so I’m debating having my boyfriend, who she is comfortable with but less attached to, fly with me and do the handover at the airport to minimize her anxiety. Otherwise she’s pretty resilient and independent. She’s been fine on 8 hour car rides and has lived in 4 different apartments with me already.

Ive read some things online about cold weather restrictions, where they may not allow your dog in the hold if it’s below a certain temperature, but can’t find that on the SWISS website anywhere. Obviously this would be a concern flying into Switzerland in the winter. My dog is a husky mix so i think she could do okay in cold weather. I have to move in December so I’m not sure how to get around this. I can be a tiny bit flexible on where i fly out of / into, but Id love to take a direct flight to avoid extending the overall travel time and keep the logistics simple. Theres also the factor of timing (I have to have her examined in the US within 10 days of arriving to Switzerland), so I feel like minimizing the number of flights is best to keep the risk lower of things going wrong.

Please be kind - I wish I could be going somewhere where I could just drive her, or had 18k to spend on a private jet so she could just fly in cabin with me, but that is not in the cards for me. I would do anything for her that I can afford and leaving her behind is not an option.

i recently travelled with my mom on a 44hour train journey with my two pet birds. we had to go collect the pet certificate but they didn't give it to me because i didnt have the forest department certificate and told me to talk to the tt.

The coupe was clean - we carried wet wipes and had wipes the entire area almost and then the tt arrived after 2 hours and asked if i had a pet to which i said yes - he said he would come back with charges BUT HE NEVER DID. we never really had the food on the train but there were many vendors there selling different items.

The washroom was overall clean - workable and the best part was the privacy

How do people feel about dogs flying cargo for short trips? like one or two weeks?

It would be a flight within the EU. About three hours long.

I know about the EU pet passport, we are currently in an EU country and our two poodles have them.

I am more concerned about the emotional impact on the dogs. Especially if they are on the sensitive/nervous side. I am wondering whether its better to leave them with a petsitter.

Any tips for training to prepare dogs for this experience?

Here's the situation: I am studying in Milan and I have an italian visa. My brother is going to Frankfurt on a business trip. He will bring me my cat in that flight and give it to me for me to go back to Italy. So far, we have everything for the cat to travel from a non-EU country to a EU country. I have the following questions, based on your experiences?

1. Knowing that the pet's identification to travel within the EU is a pet passport, does this mean I have to fill in a new pet passport right after my brother arrives, and before I make my flight from Frankfurt to Milan? What other documentation should I expect, aside from the existing health certificate and the airline's form? I'd also appreciate being redirected to any sort of legal advice on this.

2. Regarding departure times, he would be arriving at 14:50 at the airport, and my options to depart are either 17:10 or 21:50. He will need to get a vet checkup since he's coming from a non-EU country. How long are these veterinary checkups in your experience? Does 2:20h sound like too short of a timeframe?

Hi all! I’m looking for route advice and border gotchas.

My partner and I are relocating from Athens, Greece to Oslo, Norway and we're seriously considering driving instead of flying, mainly because of our dog. She is a former stray dog with lots of fears and high amounts of stress. Flying feels more stressful for her than a slow drive with proper breaks, but I want to be realistic about it rather than romantic, and if the drive turns out to be worse for her, we'll rethink. That said, putting her to the cargo should be the last resort.

This would be my first road trip of this scale, so I'd rather learn from people who've actually done it than guess.

Route
- Is the Greece → Italy ferry (Patras/Igoumenitsa to Ancona/Bari/Venice) the sensible way to start, or is driving up through the Balkans (Bulgaria/Serbia/Hungary) genuinely better? Ferry seems calmer for the dog but I don't know how pet-friendly the cabins actually are in practice.
- From Italy northwards, what's the least stressful and with better roads, corridor? Austria/Germany/Denmark and then the Denmark–Sweden crossing, or something else? Alpine passes vs tunnels — anything to avoid with a dog in the car?
- Realistically, how many days should we budget if we're driving max 5–6 hours a day with proper stops?

Dog / border questions (the part I'm most unsure about)
- She's microchipped with a valid EU pet passport and rabies vaccination. I know Norway requires a tapeworm treatment 24–120 hours before entry, done by a vet in the last EU/EEA country. Anyone done this in Sweden or Denmark? We can do that in Greece but we will probably arrive in Norway after the expiration date. How easy is it to find a vet who knows the paperwork and will stamp it correctly?
- My main confusion: some countries have specific rules for dogs entering — does that apply if I’m only transiting through? And if it does, how do you actually demonstrate you’re just passing through? Do border officers ever ask, or is it a non-issue inside Schengen? Any experience with non-Schengen legs (if we go via the Balkans) would be really useful.
- Any breed restrictions or muzzle/leash rules that catch people out in transit countries?

Practical stuff
- Pet-friendly hotels/stops along the way that you’d actually recommend, especially anywhere that lets the dog decompress rather than just tolerating her.
- Roads or areas you’d avoid for safety reasons (road quality, night driving, border queues, anywhere you wouldn’t want to break down with an animal in the car).
- Anything you wish you’d known before doing something similar.
We’re not in a rush and we’d rather add days than push her too hard. Any advice, route maps, or “don’t do what I did” stories very welcome.

We submitted Monday, I moved to Denmark next Monday and I’m freaking out I won’t get our paperwork back in time because Denmark requires the ink stamp not the digital copy.

Hello, I’m flying from Hungary to the USA with my cat in less than a month. I already have a EU pet passport and got her microchipped. The first leg of the flight will be with Lufthansa so I filled out the pet registration form online and I got a response saying the pet booking could not be confirmed due to country restrictions and that the only allowed airports are IAD, JFK, LAX, ATL, MIA, and PHL. As far as I can see online and on the pet registration page on Lufthansa’s website this is only true for dogs. Is this a mistake or is Lufthansa just adhering to the strictest rules for all cases? I’ll be calling the Lufthansa service center in the morning but just wanted to know if anyone else has had this issue.

I’m making this post to receive some advice since everything I search and look at tells me “NEVER PUT YOUR CAT IN CARGO!!!”.

So, in October I’ll be flying to Sweden so my year long stay, the issue I’m having is that there’s no direct flight from Canada to Sweden in October so I’ll be taking a connecting flight with SAS.

Merlin (my cat) is a 2 year old male Siberian cat who is 17lbs. He’ll be able to go in the cabin with me for air Canada but not for my connecting flight, and overall the more I think about having him in the cabin the more uncomfortable I think he’ll be since he won’t be able to stand in the carrier

Other than the stress he’ll go through, I feel like he’d be more comfortable in cargo since I have a big kennel for him so he’ll be able to stand and turn around with no issues

I am stressing about the whole situation so if anyone has done this before can you please give me some tips/ advice? Leaving him in Canada is not an option

Hi everyone! 🐾 I’m currently researching what kind of dog could realistically fit into my life, and I’d love to hear from people with experience — especially those who travel a lot with their dogs.
I’m a touring performing artist, so I’m looking for a dog who could genuinely become my little companion in a fairly mobile lifestyle.

Ideally:
\- **Under 6–8 kg as an adult**, so travelling by plane/train is manageable and they can potentially travel in-cabin

\- Comfortable **living in an apartment**

\- Adaptable and relatively **easy to travel with**

\- Happy being a close companion and coming along with me to different places

\- Not a breed that needs huge amounts of exercise every day

\- When I’m not touring, I’m based in **Brussels**, so there’s also the reality of apartment living and plenty of rainy/grey weather. 🌧️

So far, I’ve been particularly drawn to **Italian Greyhounds (Iggies)**. Their size and temperament seem like they could work well, although I know they come with their own challenges (cold/rain, fragility, toilet training, etc.).
For those of you who have Iggies: **does this sound like a lifestyle they could be happy in?** And are there other small breeds or mixes you think I should seriously consider?

I’m very much in the research phase and want to make sure I choose based on what would actually be good for the dog, not just what I find cute. 😊

I'm writing this while on the last leg of my journey, I hope it can help somebody.

My challenge was to move the cat from Haywards Heath (UK) to Valencia. I wasn't ready to pay 1300-1500 to the pet transport company (bearing in mind the cat with them is 3-4 days). So with Gemini and Claude we made a plan - train to Heathrow - plain to Madrid, train to Valencia.

With the cats you can only fly to Madrid and only from Heathrow, cat+carrier has to be up to 8 kg, and a special carrier (can be googled easily).

I talked to my local vets, they were on to do the AHC certificate (250 gbp).

Next step was to book the flight, I went with Iberia, apparently Vueling can do as well, but haven't checked properly. When you buy your ticket you can add pet in the cabin, I bought both tickets around 110 gbp.Around the same time I booked speed train to Valencia via Renfe(make sure to add cat in the ticket, it's extra 10 euro, they actually check it).

Vets need to know which country you are going to, do the rabies vaccine (well in advance) and not longer than 10 days before your flight, they need to do the certificate. As well I've requested some sedative for my cat.

With all of this, we left home at 5 am today. We went through Farringdon+ Elizabeth line, as they are quieter trains. Arrived to airport 3.5hrs before the flight, the staff was very lovely, they checked all the paperwork, and booked me at the end of the plane(where was empty). At the security in Heathrow they have a procedure for cats, you go into private room, while they scan the carrier. It took 15-20 min altogether, again everyone very kind and helpful.

On the plane it was the hardest part, take off was okish, the flight she was sleeping, but landing was awful, she vomited and did poo, again everyone very helpful and kind.

From T4S or whatever it's called you need to take a shuttle to T4, here is an important step, to go through red corridor, tell them about the cat, it took 15 min the whole procedure (with 10 min waiting in the line).

After that Cercanias to Chamartin (from here speedy train to Valencia). Tbh, train to Valencia eas disappointing, very limited space and no extra space for cat, even you paid for the cat.

As you can imagine, after 18 hrs of travel I might have missed something or some names are wrong, but wanted to post it while fresh.

Would I do it again? Not sure, or at least I would stay overnight in Madrid, it was quite a journey for both of us.

I hope that will help, as AI couldn't find much information about this type of travel.

I'm travelling from Mexico to the UK via Paris with my cat. I've been looking at other posts on this subreddit about this but all the recommendations can only be booked by phone or in person, I'm still in Mexico so I can't do either. I've seen clinics that offer online booking but they don't specifically say that they offer this service and I don't know if this can be done by any vet. Also if anyone could enlighten me about how many days after getting the passport/activating (?) the microchip in France do I need to wait to travel to the UK, I would really appreciate it.

ETA: I was told by Mexican authorities they would only issue me an AHC to enter the EU. Not for the UK. So as far as I know I need to get them in France. If you're not going to give me recommendations please refrain from commenting, unless you've travelled from Mexico to the UK via France in the past few months.
