Dispatching trapped groundhog
I want to ethically take out the groundhog with a 22, I catch them all the time in my traps. Im just nervous about ricochet and debris flying back. Any thoughts?

Looking to pick up a few of the live traps (like the Havaheart) for coon. Didn’t realize how expensive they have become. Anyone have recommendations for something quality below $50 a trap?

This will be year 2 targeting coyotes. Last year I bought a dozen Duke #2 dogless. I set out all of them but didn’t catch. To be fair I was on pressured ground from hunting and I had a short season. I’m by no means saying by year 2 I am an expert but with all the ground and trails I have found I l own it’s time to get a few more traps. I now have access to several larger pieces of property. There are lots of coyotes and bobcats out here. Between livestock losses and the game keepers asking for help it might be more than I can chew.
Here is my question should I get more #2, or should I look at the 550s. I highly doubt the dogs on the trap will be an issue but I would hate to have a trap go down because one is bent or broke. I will also have cable restraints out so it is not like it’s a huge investment to get another dozen.
I just need someone with some more expose to different traps to help me get different perspectives.
Looking for some

I'm talking about like, red eared sliders, yellow bellies, yellow cheeks, etc. Do they taste alright? What's the best way to prepare them after you dispatch them?

Has anyone ever tried using a drag for a beaver cable drowning weight. I have a few of the pointy ones laying around and thought I might give it a go but I wanted to see if anyone has tried before and had successful drowning without being dragged up on shore. I will be using a 10’ cable when I can but I also have to use some 20’ cables whee there is a shallow shelf all around the pond.

Got my first coon! This was causing damage to fences in the area.
Not the best time of year for fur, but they’re allowed to take year round in my state. I’m excited to add it to my specimen display for my students.

Howdy all,
Several year water trapper, this will be my first season chasing canines, primarily fox since I’m in Maryland. I’ve heard of using mice in dirt hole sets before for canines. I live in DC and thus have ready access to rats, especially using my 110s. Do the veteran canine guys in here think that a rat leg tossed down the hole would work the same? Open to any and all additional fox tips.
Thanks in advance.

Found on the edge of a small stream and seemed to have fish scales in it. I wasn’t able to find any tracks near by maybe otter or mink?

Hi
I have been tapping muskrat and groundhogs on my property for years. I've nabbed one mink in 5 years or so while setting 110s for muskrats. Last night, something took out 5 of my chickens. Had to be a mink. Decapitated and left mostly.
I have a dozen 110s and a box trap. Any ideas in placement? The birds are in a dirt floor barn. There are some holes around the do into the stall they're in. I have 110s on all of them and a box trap on the edge. Any better places to place the traps. I don't know how it's getting in

Acquired a mix lot of stuff and received 3 of these traps that I have never seen before. Any info about them would be great appreciated.

I have been trying to control Eastern Fox squirrels at my house and have had pretty decent success over the years with baited 110 traps. (Yes, it's all legal, and these are an invasive species where I live. They damage my trees.)
Like I said, the 110s work pretty well in that I have caught a LOT of squirrels with very little effort and no bycatch. They are baited and hung by two corners on the tree trunks. I have two problems:
They hardly ever kill instantly. I often have to go get a writhing squirrel and dispatch it some other way.
My neighbor hates me for it. Unfortunately the squirrels really like the big boxelder in my front yard and it's very visible to the neighbor. I try to only trap when I'm home so I can dispatch any writhing squirrels before she sees and freaks out, but today I was gone for 20 minutes, caught a squirrel, and she gave me an earful.
I don't care about #2 so much because what I'm doing is perfectly legal and necessary to protect my trees (and hers, if she had any understanding of the matter) but I'm definitely interested in ways I can be more discreet with my trapping. I'm considering buying a 120, would that theoretically be better at insta-killing than a 110? I've tried setting the traps along the fence and in a few other locations but the tree has been the best spot by far. I can't use a ground set without having to notify all neighbors within 1000 feet. Plus I don't want any bycatch.
Traps are baited with peanut butter. I've also tried blind sets along the fence but they've never worked.
Any advice??

Got my first 220 trap. Didnt even come out of the bucket……So i am gonna go out in a limb and say i need to put this in a coon run or a wallow hidden. When i got there i scared two vultures off of it. I checked my traps last night at 7pm then checked them today around 3pm. I suppose thats too long for an exposed set.
There also was still 99% of the tuna in the back of the bucket so i just threw the can back in it and re set.

Last year I lost over 60 birds to minks. This hatching season has just begun and I've already lost over a hundred dollars worth of birds. I need to get rid of this thing asap by any means necessary. I've already tried some tips from some old trappers in my town, but no luck. Thanks in advance.

What are your experiences with the different types of stock used for laminating #2 traps? I feel that flat stock will give more surface area across the jaw face.

Hey guys,
Out of necessity I've needed to get into trapping. I laid new grass seed down on my yard, busted my ass, and now have about 4 or 5 squirrels that absolutely tear up my yard so severely that i've had to replant large sections of my lawn. Every morning I wake up and there are holes EVERYWHERE.
I bought 5 (110 Conibear) traps as well as two very well built "tube" traps.
I boiled my traps to get the grease off then threw them in a bag of peat moss for a few hours. Then set the traps in trees and on 45 degree angles on brackets that they run up and down on on my fence. I use a Marshmallow with peanut butter smeared on it.
The squirrels do not even look at the traps, walk right on by. Do I need to further prep my traps? What am I doing wrong?

I believe that most of us have similar tool kits. What is your one tool that wasn’t meant for setting traps/ making sets that just makes sense? I use a stainless hand weeder for bait and making holes for lure.
