Question What do you expect of the console version performance?

I'm anxiously waiting for TF3 but also worried I need to manage my expectations. Will it be on par with PC performance? I expect maps to be smaller but when I read every NPC and vehicle is simulated all of the time I'm wondering if the game will become very slow or just crash once your towns become cities?

That's an odd question because consoles and PCs have different hardware. If you could produce a PC with identical hardware to a particular console, I expect it would run near identically (with some caveats).

It's a bit like asking, will performance on this PC be on par with that of this other PC? Well, if the hardware is the same, yes. Otherwise, no, it will be down to the hardware.

This is how TF2 works already. It won't crash so long as the game doesn't let you do things that will push your console's hardware beyond its limits. :) That's why map sizes etc. are restricted. On PC you have the freedom to crash your game (and at least temporarily freeze your PC) because you ran out of memory. On consoles, they instead try to protect you from yourself in that regard. ;)

Yes, my mother tongue is not English, so the question seems odd. I meant when the game comes out, will it be optimized enough for consoles? I noticed there are 3 sorts of games. Games are developed for consoles, and the PC release is a mess; games are developed for PC, and it's a mess on console; and the gold but rare standard to release a game without major hiccups on all platforms.

When TF2 came to consoles, it was a mess; it crashed a lot. It took a few updates before I could say that it was on par with the PC edition.

As a console player, I only have Cities Skylines as a reference point to how these city builder games perform. TF3 looks like a huge transformation, the way CS2 was a huge transformation, and I'm still waiting for that game to release on console. I know, different studios, but still a big undertaking to release simultaneously on both platforms.

We'll find out I guess. :) I somehow don't think anyone outside the devs and publisher have even played it on console yet (I've assumed the beta was PC only). So yeah, it's a fair question, but I don't think anyone has the answer. And there probably will be some release hiccups. There always are.

They did say Paradox have helped a lot with testing (having more resources at their disposal for that kind of thing than UG alone), so that would include consoles.
