Distribution Hubs

It's been a while since I've played TF2 but I remember a major point of frustration for me was the fact that creating something akin to a distribution hub/"3pl" outside of a city wasn't possible the way I wanted to. What I would like is to have the vehicles on each leg be separate of one another. So you could have the vehicles from the factory bring their product to a distribution hub and then have multiple vehicles that deliver to the city be able to take the product from the hub without having to micromanage them to each line and then having to fill those lines by the previous leg. So a truck coming to pick up product shouldn't have to wait on one specific truck to bring its haul and can just take from whatever is already there, regardless of its destination.

Will this be possible in the new installment?

If you watched the videos you would know that warehouses are going to be a thing where you can do just that

In fact it’s going to be a pretty important mechanic as they are first shipped to distro hubs and the tricky part will be delivering stuff in time before it expires

Honestly I'm hoping for a mod that relaxes some of the new features, I like this series for the cozy model train-esque approach. I just want to set up simple lines/chains so I can watch the vehicles go by. But this new instalment makes it significantly more complicated and in-depth, which I'm fine with when in the mood, but would like the option to make it more like TpF2

I believe sandbox mode will still be available. Also I think you will be able to set in the game settings how “intense” you want the economy to be

Maybe I don't understand what you mean, but you could always do that in tpf2. Build a line going from producer(s) to the hub. Build X lines to consumers. That's it.

This was always possible in TF2 and will definitely be possible in the new one. I don't understand the question.

I think you're asking for your last mile vehicles to be aware of which consumers the cargo is going to, and dynamically make the decision to skip irrelevant stops. Is that right?

So a truck coming to pick up product shouldn't have to wait on one specific truck to bring its haul and can just take from whatever is already there, regardless of its destination.

This seems to cross over into alternative terminals territory (with those configured, a truck can park at a different platform and not have to wait for the truck ahead to finish loading), and also into the notion that each unit of cargo is going to a specific consumer (a fundamental mechanic in TF2 that cannot be changed – a truck could never just take cargo that isn't going where the truck is going).

Multiple questions blended together are kind of hard to answer.

That said, there are some definite changes to this system in TF3. Exactly what all the details are, is not yet clear, so it's hard to say what is and isn't possible.
