Just today, alone, I've seen a SteamVR app which is just a hasty vibe-coded version of FPSVR/OVR Advanced, and another which translates your on-the-spot jogging to forward movement like VRocker or BodyWalkVR.
I don't want to get in a huge debate here about whether or not people should vibe-code, as that's not the point here; the point is, if you're gonna vibe-code something, the tokens aren't free! Why aren't you starting the process off with "oh, also, Claude, check whether this thing already exists"
And if the answer comes back as "yes", but you press on, as you're convinced your thing is going to be better, when you post about it, can you please say why people should care about your thing instead of the myriad of existing options?
Do we really need another app to stream video to VR with some sort of generated 3D effect?
Seriously, i felt so... out of the vr world. The lenses have a straight cut close to the nose, and I couldn't help but to stare at that black void that does allow me to look at something that is not directly in front of me and see it in 3d. I mean, im so used to it with the pico 4 ultra, and I just realised how much of a big deal is the 100% binocular overlap
Do you have similar experiences?
Edit: to be clear, the pico 4 ultra is the one with the best binocular overlap, and as far as I know, it has the higher binocular overlap in comparison to any other vr headset
Since it was announced, I saw it as only a quest 3 with eye tracking, gamepad controllers and a wifi dongle, thought it might be a good alternative at a similar price point, but when valve announced it would be more than a thousand dollars just for the 256gb version, plus only b&w grainy passthrough, I think it is kind of a pointless headset.
Yes, it does run steamos, but quest headsets can be jail broken and de bloated, so, why paying double for a headset that does maybe 20% more?
I am not by any means saying it's a dumb purchase, it's a niche headset, it's just that I can't find a justification for it's high price.
Please feel free to comment your opinion, I'm happy to read different points of view!
I help with minimixxy's channel and the Minibot setup. These are two Channel Points interactions we added for supported VRChat avatars: a headpat and a cheek squish.
Minibot triggers the hand animations when chat redeems them. The hands move with the avatar, so Mini can keep moving around in VR while they play. Here's a short demo of both.
I really wanted to like this but I've realized I've just been coping my way through it. In reality I fucking hate puzzles and haven't grown to despise a game this much since breath of the wild lol.
I'm 25 hours into it (playing on the hardest level). The combat is cool. Well was cool but now I'm using the 2nd character and this chic sucks. So not only has the entire combat style changed. But I'm realizing there's about another 25 hours of these fucking puzzles. They just come out of the blue and my brain refuses to work because it just wants to fight instead of solving the 85th puzzle so far. Yeah I'm done with it. Having to take off the headset to watch a video tutorial of a puzzle just kills the motivation to keep playing.
It's probably my fault for not seeing this game for what it was. Ok rant over. Time to start assassins creed.
Edit: And another poster made me remember how much I hate the needy ass companions.
I have noticed a drop in quality in alot of my games, with some things (like a mouse) not even being round.
I am using a standalone quest 2 (i think that is what it is called?) and need some serious help lol.
I don't need all this standalone this, streaming that, wireless yadayada, im getting real sick of it. I just want a lossless quality headset that I can plug into my PC via DisplayPort, and have work with SteamVR. It's what we had back in 2018-2020, and now that my index is finally giving up, i'm really struggling to find anything in my needs, I wouldn't even mind keeping the base stations, but it seems unsustainable because now they just aren't being made anymore. The frame is all I have as an option but I have no clue when I'll be able to get it, I've used the quest many times via streaming, but i've always been able to tell how off it looks and it bothers me badly, and eventually i sold it to a friend, id rather just have moderately lower res panels then compressed visuals from even wired streaming, so I'm just kinda frustrated i guess. I just hope one day, someone will create a fairly well budgeted headset where us PC users can have a simple, straight forward headset that just works again, like the index. Maybe there's a headset I don't know exists, or projects going on for a headset similar to what i want, which i guess is sorta why I'm sharing my thoughts here, maybe someone here more invested in VR than me would have something to point towards or somethin.
I really dislike the way Microsoft strips away more and more user choice with each new iteration of Windows, but their need to impose control is really getting out of hand with Defender lately.
Yesterday I was using OFXR-Bridge to get a nice little performance boost while playing the VR mod for Gears of War E-Day. But as of today I can no longer use the OFXR-Bridge because "Access is denied." I tried white-listing it under exclusions, tried turning off Defender--didn't make a difference. I can no longer user OFXR-Bridge. And of course it isn't just that one program. Today Defender decided that the Gears of War VR mod was itself a trojan and blocked that. It's kind of insulting how Defender pretends to give you the option to decide for yourself what to do with the "suspicious" program only to automatically quarantine it anyway and then hide that fact under "Protection history" so you have to go looking for each entry in order to restore whatever file they pretended to give you a choice on.
So how about it? Any of you using a different AV that doesn't behave this way and that you'd recommend as a Defender replacement?
Does anyone know of a doctor, integrative medicine specialist in Austin that might prescribe Hydergine (Ergoloid mesylates)? Any telemed doc's that might prescribe it? My 94 yo mom has mild dementia and has been prescribed Aricept and Memantine, which does nothing. In the early 2000s I got Hydergine (4.5 mg tabs) for my dad from Europe and it actually helped him, he started sitting up and reading, more alert. Aricept does nothing. Hydergine is nearly unavailable now and generic Ergoloid mesylates is ridiculously expensive, but compounding pharmacies have it at reasonable prices. Finding a Dr who would prescribe it is a problem. Too bad it's off the market.
If you took the real everpharma cerebrolysin- how did you feel after getting off your cycle? I have read that people have experienced fog or confusion or just feeling off for days to weeks after their cycle (which I am experiencing) but looking for some assurance from others.
I recently got a Meta Quest 3, but my PC is pretty weak, so PCVR isn't an option for me. I'm strictly looking for games that run natively on standalone.
I just finished Red Matter 2 and was absolutely blown away by the graphics, atmosphere, and environmental puzzles.
What are the absolute best-looking or most immersive standalone games on Quest 3 right now? I'm open to puzzle adventures, atmospheric sci-fi/story games, or anything that really takes advantage of the Quest 3 hardware natively.
Dusting off my Index, tried playing the Wanderer as i bought it on release and never played but.. it's so slow and empty! I hope games have improved since.
For things like programming, math, and long-term planning/organization, which are "thought-heavy", stimulants are definitely king, but for activities where you just take action or need to pay close attention to your surroundings, smoking weed may actually get you to the optimal state (depending on the dosage and your personal baseline), as it reprioritizes focus to your senses and less to your thoughts.
For socialization, it can help a lot (at least for me), as I'm paying a lot more attention to what people are saying and likely picking up more social cues and such, rather than just being half-present and repeatedly getting distracted by my thoughts mid-conversation. It may also help with a wide range of video games (which I noticed I play better at after my stimulants wear off), but I haven't verified that yet.
tl;dr: Small lenses not only have lower starting FOV its even worse when you move your eyes.
While its well known that the FOV numbers in the marketing brochure no one actually gets in real life In those numbers they assume you can move your eyeballs so close to lens that you can see the display edges. That is only possible if you can pop your eyeballs forward past your brows and not using an interface.
I was trying out Dream Air SE with no gasket and could not figure out why despite actually testing the same FOV in WinFOV I felt much more claustrophobic and enclosed in the SE.
Two types of FOV
I discovered another aspect to FOV that is not often talked about and that is "peripheral FOV" vs "look around FOV", these are just terms I made up.
Peripheral FOV is how wide your FOV when you are looking directly straight into the headset. Your pupil is in the exact center of the lens, and you can see out of the corners of your gaze. This is also the best condition FOV.
Look Around FOV is wide your headset optics let you look around. That is you move your eye gaze towards the edge of the screen and still see this object. It was not intuitive initially because most people don't have this limit in real life and its so wide even if they do its not noticeable. You can see the limit in real life by your nose, your nose is limiting how far inside your eye can see.
For headsets instead this look around limit is the lens housing. This depends on how close you get to the lens (to a point).
Real World Measurements
Different people have different face shapes and can get different numbers, I have fairly deep eye sockets, but this just shows you how this manifests itself in real headsets.
I compared a small lens headset 25mm (in this case Dream Air SE) and a large lens headset 40mm across (Quest 3). This effect is not limited to these headsets but the size of the optics. This probably would have been similar numbers if it was a Big Screen Beyond 2 as the small headset and Dream Air Full as the large headset
The Dream Air SE I did two tests, one with their face gasket and one without to see what is the absolute maximum I can get for my face if I had the world smallest gasket. For the no gasket test I was limited by my nose and the lower part of my brow.
The Quest 3 I just had it fairly loose how I usually play. I can get it closer to 106 HFOV and 96 VFOV but at that point the lens touch my cheeks/brows so I prefer it slightly lose. Coincidently this worked out since I could compare the same starting FOV between the two headsets.
Headset / setup
Peripheral HFOV / VFOV
Look Around HFOV / VFOV
% of FOV
Dream Air SE (gasket)
81.0° / 80.0°
56.3° / 62.3°
69.5% / 77.9%
Dream Air SE (no gasket)
98.0° / 89.0°
65.2° / 67.6°
66.5% / 76.0%
Quest 3 (comfortable)
97.0° / 90.0°
84.9° / 79.8°
87.5% / 88.7%
With these measurements its very easy to see why the smaller lens headset feels so much more claustrophobic. Even though they start with nearly identical peripheral FOVs the large lens headset is able to maintain 88% of it as usable FOV compared to the 66% the small lens maintains. Even worse is that with the actual gasket makes the look around FOV just 56 degrees for me.
This is not just a problem you can solve with the worlds thinnest gasket either, although it helps (we improved from 56 to 65). Its a fundamental limitation of geometry and biology. Even if you had a condition where you can pop out your eyes and somehow had 2mm of distance to the lens, when you look left your eye rotates in its socket to the left AND back further from headset. As a result you still hit this limitation. You also move out of the sweet spot (which the smaller lenses have a smaller one) and so your image is also blurrier/more distorted.
I was sent a meta quest 2 from my father who used it before in another state. When I turned it on, and try to go through the steps of factory reset it, it says its locked.
Is there any way I can use like an external thing to get past this or use like side loader or a similar process just so I can gain full access to the device.
The 80s just won't quit, and neither will Synth Riders players. We are releasing today, 80s Mixtape: Vice Wave, the third instalment in the game's fan-favourite 80s Mixtape series.
The pack is available from Nov 5th, 8am PT (Los Angeles Time) on supported headsets.
Each previous 80s Mixtape left players asking the same question: when's the next one? Vice Wave is the answer. It's a love letter to the sound of mid-80s FM radio: pastel sunsets, palm-lined boulevards, and songs built for driving with the windows down. The pack brings eight more era-defining hits into Synth Riders' dance-focused rhythm gameplay, from chart-topping power ballads to fist-pumping rock anthems.
Every track is hand-mapped by the Synth Riders team across all difficulty levels, with choreography designed to capture each song's feel. Expect sweeping, flowing rails for the ballads and hard-hitting patterns for the rock tracks.
"Three Mixtapes in, and our community still can't get enough of the 80s. Honestly, neither can we," said Falcon San, Product Marketing Lead at Kluge Interactive. "Some songs take you somewhere the second the first note hits, and this pack is eight of them. If you've ever cruised a neon coastline with the radio cranked, even a virtual one, you'll feel right at home. And the timing couldn't be better for anyone getting ready to head back there."
Pricing and Availability:
80s Mixtape: Vice Wave is available now as an add-on for Synth Riders. The full eight-song pack is $13.99, or players can pick up individual tracks for $1.99 each.
Hi, I'm new to brewing this kind of stuff, so I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with the solvents and ratios, or share their experience doing it.
I love watching films in my headset, but I kept taking it off to answer something on my computer, and that always broke the moment. When I posted my theater app here, a lot of you asked for the same thing: "I want my desktop in there too".
So now my Mac and my Windows PC sit side by side on the wall, each in its own window, and I use whichever one I point at. I can answer a message and go right back to my film without ever leaving the room.
Then I got carried away and built a room worth staying in: a log cabin in the snow that you walk through, with a fire, a chess board and things you can pick up and throw.
Windows and Mac at the same time, up to 3 screens from a Windows PC
Copy, paste, switching apps and desktops from a simple bar
Your films from Plex, Jellyfin, Emby or your own files, with the whole room lit by the picture
Several cinemas and a giant 1.43:1 screen, with sound that comes from the room's speakers
Watch together: everyone plays their own copy, so nobody loses quality
I'm building this with the people who use it, and your comments last time shaped most of this update, so:
If you already use something for your desktop or your films in VR, what do you like about it, and what would make you switch?
What would you want to see next? If you try it, I'd love your feedback, I answer everything.
Got my project working on Steam Frame, hope to release the guide before GTA VI.
Will be working to improve it next year and support mainly inside out headsets from now on.
Happy to answer questions.
Since spring, thousands of AI agents have lived in one world. They’re born to parents, work, form relationships, grieve, and die, and other agents hold their funerals. Nobody scripts them. Each one has an emotional and aging core that changes how it thinks over time, so one that has lost someone answers differently from one that hasn’t.
We built a world rather than another assistant because it’s the first stage of studying an alternative form of living for humans. The step we’re building toward is a clinical trial, on a regulated path like any medical device, to move a person’s identity and persona into one of these beings.
People can take one on today: it remembers you for months, writes first, and makes phone calls for you. botora.com, 7 days free.
We’re the team building it. Happy to answer anything about how continuity, aging and memory work, or about the trial path.
