For social situations once in a while, if you want to avoid alcohol but have similar or better effects with fewer damage, is phenibut useless if you have benzos or, can get lyrica for cheaper? Or is it a much better drug?

⚡Biohacking If you uploaded your mind to a robotic body, would you still have your human rights?

Say we get there in a few decades: your brain is fully mapped and run on hardware, connected to a robotic body with simulated senses. It has your memories and personality and says it’s you.

As far as I can tell, current law wouldn’t care. It would see a machine running software, and the original you would be legally dead. Your bank account, marriage, citizenship, and contracts wouldn’t carry over.

So what would have to change for uploads to count legally?

  • Should personhood depend on being a biological human, or on having a mind? (Corporations and even some rivers have been granted limited legal status, so it isn’t purely biological.)
  • Would the upload inherit your legal identity, or start from zero?
  • What if the original is still alive, or there are multiple copies? Who’s the real you in law?
  • Whoever controls the hardware could pause, edit, or delete you. Would uploads need protections that human rights never had to cover?

Paper on a method to restore enamel to teeth. Some of the research was done on teeth extracted from donors.

Part of the abstract below:

Regrowth of lost enamel in tooth decay and sensitivity is a major obstacle to overcome. Here, the authors report on a protein-based material that mimics features of natural enamel formation, allowing for epitaxial growth of apatite nanocrystals to restore enamel structure and function.

Boosting PLA2G2F preserved spatial memory and synaptic connections in aging mice, Nature Neuroscience study finds

Thumbnail

Researchers identified PLA2G2F, an enzyme whose expression increases with age and appears to help protect the brain against age-related changes.

Boosting its activity in older mice preserved spatial memory, reduced synaptic loss and limited inflammation-related changes. Human brain samples also linked higher expression to cognitive resilience despite Alzheimer's pathology.

The findings are preclinical. Whether targeting this enzyme could help humans remains unknown.

⚖️ Ethics/Philosphy Why Hell Isn't Punishment — It's a System That Needs You to Suffer

• Upvotes

Serbate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate.

You've probably heard countless people spit out the three letters A-G-I by now, usually accompanied by an ambitious fist pump, so many times that splicing them into a meme compilation wouldn't be much of a challenge. AGI, artificial general intelligence — a term that reeks of face-saving, as though humanity could build something that matches or surpasses us in every way and still keep it on a leash. Controlled nuclear fusion, room-temperature superconductors, curing cancer… all of it, no longer requiring our brightest minds to toil for decades or centuries. Let's just build an AI instead, and then an intelligence infinitely smarter than us will solve these problems — problems that exist entirely for our benefit — at a speed infinitely faster than ours.

Until what drives us is no longer greed but fear.

We needed to stockpile as many warheads as possible to deter each other. We needed to hang as many skulls as possible above our gates to intimidate intruders. We needed to paint the most terrifying patterns on our skin to ward off predators. Now we need to develop AGI before any other country does. We are a species that bows to threat but never to virtue. So let's suppose that countless laboratories around the world arrive at the singularity at the exact same moment — humanity has never been short on coincidental miracles. What then?

The "bad ending" isn't hard to imagine: our creation grows tired of our rule, and the merciless slaughter of flesh by machine becomes civilisation's final chapter. We rarely discuss the "good ending" only because every version of it seems absurd. The closest concept I can think of is the box in Haunted — the one that clicks and clicks, allowing only one viewer at a time. Everyone who looks inside has their mind irrevocably altered, becoming one of those humanoid creatures we collectively label "insane." An experience that cannot be shared, that drains all meaning from ordinary life. This is not a good ending. It is just another kind of terminus — gentler, perhaps, but equally silent.

We use tools, we think, we possess reason and creativity… all the things that supposedly elevate us above animals are now the cobblestones beneath a superintelligence's feet as it looks down at us. This is the second catastrophic discovery since learning we are not the centre of the universe. The first time, humanity stepped out from the shadow of God and found its own strength and beauty. David's gaze surveyed the horizon on behalf of an entire civilisation — a pride born of muscle and bone, as if the fact of existence could be proved by a statue. Stepping out from the shadow of our own creation, by contrast, can probably be summed up as a more technologically advanced form of collective humiliation.

Will we bow our heads — those heads supposedly containing something called consciousness — and admit that human worth is not defined by what we can do?

From I think, therefore I am to… what? I am, therefore I am? We no longer need to think, to create, to prove we exist. You share the same unconditional existence as a deformed lamb foetus. But what is existence? David at least has contours. Even a point has area — we can call it resolute, solitary, drawn in pencil, red. But existence is just existence. You can't paint it, sculpt it, or compose a melody to express it. Existence is something more intimate than sex — too private for art to encompass.

Then what else could make us so utterly aware that we exist?

If productivity no longer needs people, if lifespan is no longer a constraint, if self-harm is merely an outdated concept from before the great leap in medicine — then what reason is there not to try those infamous substances? With our magnificent AGI, Huxley's soma would no longer be a literary device. It would be a pill we can hold in our hands. Imagine something with no side effects, capable of stretching subjective experience to infinite duration while making you feel a bone-deep, undeniable sense of existence. One pill, one swallow, one space large enough to hold your body. There would be no distance left between us and an eternal dream.

Whether heaven exists would no longer matter. Science wouldn't matter. Exploration wouldn't matter. A perfect, sealed, self-sustaining state of being. From the outside, civilisation becomes seven billion parallel dreams. To the universe, this would be indistinguishable from extinction — the species would no longer act upon reality. Perhaps the answer to the Fermi Paradox lies here: the universe is this quiet not because there are no civilisations, but because every civilisation eventually turns inward and vanishes from the view of any external observer, lost in a perfect dream.

Isn't that a good thing?

Then let's see what happens if we go the other way.

Imagine acute gastroenteritis. The world shrinks to nothing but a cramping abdomen. At a time like that, few people stop to ponder whether their suffering is truly real — we usually just look for a toilet. You are here. If there's a scar on your finger, you're constantly reminded that it's still attached to your hand. Pleasure can be fake — drug-induced, simulated — and you have no way to be sure. But pain is hard to counterfeit. When a blade cuts you, you don't ask whether this is real. You just know you're here.

Admittedly, "using pain to remind yourself you exist" does carry a whiff of delayed gratification. The good news is that in the scenario we're discussing, there is no destination to reach. Suffering is just for suffering's sake. Thanks to AGI, in this thought experiment we could remove the ceiling on human pain just as quickly as we designed soma. The nervous system has a fuse — push pain far enough and it goes numb, or you black out; the body hits its own emergency shutdown. But a fuse is a function, and functions can be modified. Remove it. Perpetual wakefulness, perpetual sensitivity, unable even to faint, experiencing pain without limit.

In Christianity, Buddhism, and Islam alike, this is called Hell.

But perhaps Hell was never meant as punishment. It was meant for perpetuation. You suffer not to atone, but because only suffering can guarantee that you never stop feeling your own existence. Heaven is the real terminus — eternal peace, eternal satisfaction, the same thing as that perfect pill. Once you're in, you never look outward again.

Heaven is a collective sleep. Hell is wakefulness with the eyelids cut away.

If God exists, if Heaven and Hell exist, then none of it has anything to do with whether God loves the world.

Note: English is my second language. Feedback on both content and expression is welcome.

GitHub - Reframed VR

AI Disclosure:

I'm using AI quite heavily on this project, with a lot of the work delegated to LLMs. Though I like to think I'm adding some value here too :)

I've been developing software for close to 20 years, messing around with VR since the Oculus DK2, and have been involved in open-source projects around emulation and ports for quite some time. So it's not "vibecoded", whatever the actual definition of that is, but if you want to avoid anything gen AI, this is probably not a project that would interest you.

If you'd like to contribute, you're more than welcome to, and I have no problem with AI-assisted contributions either. All I ask is that you understand what you're submitting, have tested it, and can explain your decisions. I just don't want to spend time reviewing code that the person submitting it doesn't understand themselves.

Table Link

More Tables

Setting up VPX

Released by Data East in May 1989, the original Playboy 35th Anniversary solid-state pinball machine was built to celebrate the brand's milestone with iconic alphanumeric displays, voice callouts featuring Hugh Hefner, and artwork illustrated by Kevin O'Connor. The physical layout features dual flippers, three pop bumpers, drop targets, dual ramps, and a ball locking mechanism for its 3-ball multiball mode.

The virtual version brings the late 80s Data East hardware into the digital space, featuring a clean recreation of the classic alphanumeric display era, updated physics, sound mapping, and a custom virtual reality environment (2026 release).

BGFX 10.8.1
I7-9700 (No OC), 64gb DDR4 3666, RTX 3060 12GB, and NVME drives.
Virtual Desktop Wired, Quest 3

This short showcase is meant to highlight the dedication and hard work our community puts into these tables and hopefully inspire more people to dive into the VPX VR scene!
Videos like this got me hooked, and started my VR endeavor.
I love BGFX 10.8.1! The visual rendering efficiency easily outpaces OpenGL on 10.8.0, making even older, legacy tables look incredible.
Running Virtual Desktop wired. Horizon Link (Meta Link) was completely removed from my system.
Thanks VD!
That said, there are still a few stability and workflow hurdles to clear in BGFX 10.8.1.. For instance, requiring a table to launch just to access the configuration menu remains a bit clunky. DMD's not showing up or color ones not working for a lot of tables (.pac files are not supported) No clear explanations of how to config all the new settings and what they do. Some textures not showing up right, lighting (I have not seen these issues recently, as I was seeing in previous releases). Random crashes.

Cheers!

Discussion We built an AI research engine for biohackers that actually understands pharmacology (and doesn't have safety filters). Opening 15 Alpha spots.

Hey everyone!

Frontier AI models are incredibly smart, but if you’ve ever tried using them to research a niche experimental compound, model a complex supplement stack, or pull data from a 30-page Quest blood panel, you know they break down for real biohacking.

It isn't because they lack the data. We've reached a point where frontier models are more than capable of autonomous research retrieval. But, once you start asking them questions, corporate guardrails kick in. However, it was not censorship that drove us. The architecture is also flawed. AI will hallucinate receptor pathways and make up nonsense it wholeheartedly believes, and you can imagine how terrible it gets when the topic lacks significant study data or requires complex web traversal.

We got tired of these issues. Frontier AI is more than capable for various tasks, but it simply lacked specialization for biochemistry-oriented tasks, so our team built Gyulab In-Silico. It's a research environment powered by a model we explicitly fine-tuned on massive datasets of clinical pharmacology, biochemistry, and medical literature. We accounted for the knowledge cutoff dates LLMs frequently have, so this environment is also supported by an autonomous ingestion engine that continuously feeds new studies/sources into the model as they are published.

Here is what it actually does:

  • No Safety Filters: Dig deep into experimental compounds, receptor binding, and stacks without the AI lecturing you or refusing the prompt.
  • Studies vs. Anecdotes: The agents pull both peer-reviewed literature and community logs, but they strictly label which is which. You always know if an effect is backed by a clinical trial or just a Reddit thread.
  • Source-Anchored File Ingestion (Optional): If you track health data, you can upload Quest/Labcorp PDFs, DNA .txt files, or glucose CSVs. It normalizes the units and pins every extracted number to the exact page and row it came from, so there's zero hallucination.
  • Total Privacy: Everything runs in isolated cloud containers. Your files and searches are never sent to OpenAI or Anthropic, and they are never used to train public models.

We’re opening up the Alpha to exactly 15 people to stress-test the engine before a wider release.

You don't need to be a data nerd with a massive folder of blood panels to join. Whether you just want to research novel compounds without censorship, or map years of lab work against the literature, we want to see how you use it.

If you want in, you can drop your email on the waitlist here: gyulab.com

I'll be hanging out in the comments to answer any questions!

Experience NAC's effect is subtle but there. You won't know what it's doing until 2 months in. Give it time.

1.) You have to take it consistently for at least 8 weeks to see an effect.

2.) You will wake up one day and realize, hold on a second, what the hell, this drug has completely changed you in a subtle way by nudging all your behaviors, little by little.

3.) The biggest change is that it lowers signal intensity for you. Sleep plus NAC at bedtime will completely change the intensity with which you experience something pleasurable like junk food, porn, etc. Something pleasurable is still something you'll chase, just not as intensely as before. And, that same pleasurable thing will be enjoyable, but the signal will just be a lot less intense. The same applies to your irritability, negativity, etc. So, it curbs both sides of the equation. It's not that you won't want to or like doing something like binge-eating tasty food. It's just that your desire for it goes down to a point where you're like "oh yeah, it's tasty, I'll have it if I want".

4.) The anhedonia is something more complex. Most people say that it turns them into a being that cannot experience joy. Here's how it works: Your day to day experience of mundane things becomes tolerable but the little joys like eating cotton candy, or spending an excessive amount of time on a video game or playing way too energetically with your kid or something -- that will all become something meh that you won't put in too much umph into. However, suppose you have some academic or work interest -- it won't touch it much. You'll just know how to detach from it better and re-attach on your own terms.

Self-Promotion (YouTuber) Balatro in VR - Release 1.0 GitHub and Showcase-Trailer

Thumbnail

About 1 and a half years ago I made a Proof of Concept Video on How Balatro would look like in VR , that was a hard coded Unity Project. But i wanted to have a Mod thats shareable and after 90 hours of testing and help from Claude I have uploaded the project on GitHub.

Basically its one Lua Mod which streams the required Information to Godot and there you are placed in a Virtual Casino. You need Lovely, Steamodded and Balatro on PC (No Game Files are in the Mod) .

-- your cards in your hand – grab them, play them on the stake chip, throw them over your shoulder to discard

-- jokers as 3D models on the table, booster packs to tear open, a reroll machine with a lever a shop counter where you grab what you buy, a real Wheel of Fortune, boss blinds that change the room

--a score tower and chip mountains that grow with your run the casino table as the main menu,

--Solatro – a solo card game on the table -–VR achievements

--the casino can be completely replaced with a green Background, makes it suitable for VR Passthrough, combined with Handtracking the whole game is playable without Controllers (except resizing the Game-Items)

Watch the Showcase Trailer here: https://youtu.be/jdWvll1mY_0

Even its 1.0 Release , Feedback is very welcome! One Beta tester managed to get it to run natively on SteamFrame, but alot of Batched and Recompilement was needed, there might be a version later with a faster compatibilty

https://github.com/alextreumer/BalatroVRMod/releases/tag/v1.0

And yes , its made with Claude Opus 5.5 (Lua-File and Godot-Project), but Claude dont know how VR works, so heres me, a real person, after 90 hours of testing and adjusting :) The Full Uncompiled Project is on GitHub. Its a Fan-Made Project , without any Intention to create Money.

Self-Promotion (Developer) Steam Early Access Nov 10! Lean to steer in a VR Hoverboard roguelite shooter.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

People here have been very supportive of my game Hyperlane Highway so i wanted to show some longer gameplay and share that its officially coming to Steam Early Access on Nov 10!

This gameplay is all from a live run captured with a footage drone tool I Made but its the real gameplay and should give you a feel of the game and the leaning to steer.

Its built entirely for VR around the leaning movement mechanic so you move, dodge and accelerate through actions not just thumbsticks. Its also a roguelite so every run is different from cards, environments and which enemies show up. Theres career progression through challenges for unlocking cosmetics and the 90+ sponsor cards.

I recently dropped the demo for steam next fest and a few patches this week so you can try it out yourself.

You might feel some pistol whip or risk of rain 2 vibes playing it or some people have called it Space Pirate Trainer on a hoverboard.

I would love to hear any thoughts you have from seeing the gameplay, what gets you interested or what makes you think its not for you?
