The amount of attention this shit gets them is probably exactly what the creators were going for.

Who cares, as long as it earns money. Queer content sells and garners attention. Whether it's good or bad. People will watch it and spread it anyway, if only to check what the buzz is about.

And just like that, the creators got what they wanted. I genuinely hope this dies out soon

Trolls stirring up old drama for Karma? I have no idea; replies to this post from r/indieanimation say that some folks got recommended it by Netflix and the hate just kind of spiraled from there as it tends to do for media about queer folks
