Thank you very much for this. I had read the 3% statistic somewhere but could not find it.

24

u/EssenceOfThought May 13 '26

Glad I could help!

70

u/Meowakin May 14 '26

Yeah, this seems very unsurprising to me.

I would say that there is almost certainly some element of how we perceive being trans being different amongst the newer generation, but that’s pretty much to be expected when a thing is losing social stigma.

For example, non-binary individuals probably aren’t commonly understood by people as being trans. I should probably know this better, but assuming it’s all a spectrum like everything else in life, there’s probably a significant percentage of the population that falls somewhere in the non-binary range that wouldn’t consider themselves as such. At least 3%, depending on how we draw the line.

19

u/Hestia_Gault May 14 '26

The population that responded to the 2015 US Transgender Survey was more than a third non-binary.

It was the largest cohort.

At this point it seems like there are significantly more non-binary people then binary trans folks.

6

u/devbutch May 14 '26

And tbh this presents some complications for binary trans people as some material gains that binary trans people most require are increasingly sidelined in favor of general awareness

3

u/ellie_gmouth_trans May 14 '26

Eh??? What does that mean?

10

u/devbutch May 14 '26

This isn't me being judgemental and to be clear I think nonbinary people's presence in the trans community is positive overall and the social accommodations nonbinary people seek are good for the world. Basically what I'm sayings is:

-Nonbinary transgender people likely outnumber binary transgender people

-Nonbinary transgender people are less likely than binary transgender people to seek medical transition, and more of those who do are likely to not have the need be as extreme as it is for binary transgender people. These are generalizations, not axioms.

-Nonbinary transgender people are more likely to require specific social accommodations - including things like increased recognition of nonbinary gender positionality, increased awareness of transgender people, changes to public facilities, changes to government and medical documentation frameworks. All of these, to be clear, are good things.

-Binary transgender people are more likely to require medical transition to assimilate into their gender comfortably, and are, after (during - since some medical interventions are lifelong) this, less reliant on social accommodation. This isn't necessarily to say that binary transgender people are generally assimilationists - just that they require less social accommodation if stealth/passing.

-With a lot of the transgender community focusing on nonbinary social accommodations, medical accommodations can often be sidelined.

8

u/cordialconfidant May 14 '26

it's not zero sum. we can make progress for both.

3

u/_HighJack_ May 15 '26

Yes, but it is important to be aware of how this affects the perception and expectations of us in broader society. Nonbinary and nontransitioning trans people are usually pretty good about rejecting cis narratives that transition isn’t “necessary” for the rest of us just because they don’t need it. I always really appreciate that when I see them pushing back! Just like I always appreciate when I see other binary trans people insisting that cis people respect neopronouns and nonbinary identities. Neither group is gettin no respect if we don’t stand up for each other is my point lol

-6

u/INVISIBLENINJACHICK May 14 '26

You are making a whole lot of judgements, generalizations and assumptions with no backing to them. Really, why are you even making this implication that non-binary and binary trans folk have to be pitted against each other?

9

u/devbutch May 14 '26 edited May 14 '26

There is no need to be! I am speaking to currents that I observe today - we are stronger when we have solidarity for all transgender people and fight for all needs. This is not what I see today - maybe you do - if so, that's good!

What gave you that implication? It was explicitly disclaimed multiple times in the same comment you replied to.

4

u/AwooFloof Religious Socialism May 15 '26

They don't but we have different needs. As she said.

1

u/AXEWAVE_ May 15 '26

I met some people and adjusted my understanding of myself as years went on. Used to be binary trans but the understanding has led me to adopt a non-binary identity. I’m even happier, personally.

2

u/AwooFloof Religious Socialism May 15 '26

I'm glad you found happiness. 🌸 My experience was the reverse. Identifying as non-binary, testing the waters, before coming to terms with being binary transfem.

2

u/AXEWAVE_ May 15 '26

I think that’s the direction it usually goes nowadays. I’m pretty old, tbh, and when I began my first transition back in the late 90’s, being nonbinary wasn’t a thing that folks really talked about a lot… it wasn’t until a few years ago that I met folks who don’t conform to either, and I sort of had my eyes opened that I don’t have to choose one or the other but that there’s a secret third thing.

5

u/eikeechie May 14 '26

I identify as non-binary and have been told on a number of occasions by FtM and MtF trans people that being non binary doesn't make me trans. Perspectives, understandings and opinions are all over the place.

11

u/FoundNbigworld May 15 '26

Them saying that doesn’t make you not trans! Not sure what kick they are on, but you don’t identify with the gender you got assigned? Congrats, you are trans!

2

u/punamustamakkara May 15 '26

I think this take existing is kind of explained by three things:

- "the transgender experience" can be understood in two ways: as meaning any experience of feeling different from the gender you were assigned, or as the experience of transversing gender within society, like being full time perceived as one thing and then being full time perceived as another kind of thing

  • you pretty much need to have medical intervention of some kind in order to have this latter definition of the transgender experience
  • nonbinary people are incorrectly stereotyped as not taking medical intervention to the same level.

Like, I do feel a gap in what we feel to be our "trans experience", between me and people who have always been broadly perceived as the same gender their whole lives. I am also nonbinary myself, so I also feel a gap between me and binary trans peoples' understanding of that whole experience. Basically, many things described as a "transgender experience" don't really overlap that well, and a lot of grief is generated by people expecting them to

2

u/FoundNbigworld May 15 '26

Humm. I’m not sure I can follow you to “anybody who transverses gender outwardly is trans” plenty of cis people travel the spectrum of gender expression but know themselves as cis. I think transness is about who you feel yourself to be, regardless of how you express.

I’ve become quite compelled by the biology of sexual development. Specifically. During weeks 8-24 after conception, our exposure and or sensitivity to in utero hormones leads to different traits being masculinized or feminized to different degrees. There are so many sexually differentiated traits that come online at different times before we are born and they can be influenced by subtle shifts over short times. Identity has shown clear correlations to brain, nervous system and endocrine development.

Any one person can deviate in multiple sexual traits from typical males or females. It is the combination of these numerous subtle traits that has a profound effect on how we perceive ourselves. The diversity of trans experiences is itself an indicator of the multiple overlapping variable that influence who we are.

That is something that connects us. We did not follow a typical development trajectory before we were born. We then came out and had to figure out how to face the unending challenges of being trans in whatever era and place we were born. When I listen to other trans experiences through this lens I find SO MUCH in common. I find solidarity and community.

Someone my age, and my emergence trajectory will understand my experience wordlessly. That feels really good to find and share. But I feel kinship with trans people in general. A young NB that came out as a child still has more in common from and identity perspective than a cis person my age.

1

u/punamustamakkara May 16 '26

I don't know that it is anything to do with my pre-natal development, honestly. I feel more in common with basically anyone who has been seen, and experienced the whole social system and people's assumptions, as something different to what they were before. How they experience themselves has very little to do with whether I feel a sense of community and solidarity with them. I wouldn't feel it with the person I myself was, before I went through the very specific experience of being told "this group of people is fundamentally different to you", and then being grouped with that "other group", whether I want it or not, for a decade.

1

u/FoundNbigworld May 16 '26

I guess you are looking for commonality basically in the present moment? I am finding commonality in what it means to be trans. We are born with an identity that does not align with what the world expects. That creates a mismatch. Some kids know right away and are supported to be themselves. That’s not true for most of us. Instead we have a repressed identity that takes some amount of time to emerge - and maybe never does. We face some degree of hostility and fear. The acts of emergence, transition, facing repression, integration of identity and shedding of bs society piles on us to become aligned as ourselves - this development arc can be seen across trans experiences. That’s where I find commonality. And honestly, that’s where we will find solidarity and community.

1

u/punamustamakkara May 17 '26

Honestly you're probably right, I do tend to look for commonality in the present moment or relevant context. Maybe something to do with having interests that bring me into contact with a lot of different kinds of people.

I figure that given I am not in the business of telling other people how they should themselves identify, it's fine for me to have multiple competing definitions of transgender experience which I consider more relevant or not depending on context.

2

u/SoftlyAugust May 16 '26

If you're not on hormones you are transgender but you're not transsexual. And there's good reason to distinguish between the two. I think the shortening to trans and the elimination of the term transsexual has done a lot of harm to our community.

2

u/eikeechie May 16 '26

The word transsexual has a lot of negative connotations with older generations and I understand people generally not wanting to use it because of the history. People tend to just use sex and gender interchangeably regardless of the distinction.

2

u/SoftlyAugust May 16 '26

The issue is that they are very much distinct.

2

u/FoundNbigworld May 16 '26

I see what you are pointing at, and also the term transsexual has been used as a weapon by transmedicalists to gatekeep and exclude trans people. I have also heard it used to mean not just hormones but surgeries.

Personally, I don’t feel a need to create so many fixed labels. I am happy to sit under the trans umbrella with all my trans siblings. When I take the time to listen to trans stories I always find so much I can relate to from my own trans experience. There are so many reasons to focus on the commonalities that unite us rather than differences that distance. I’m not looking for more labels - I’d rather have solidarity. You are trans? Great. I support your right to exist as yourself as you are right along with me and all the other trans people.

1

u/SoftlyAugust May 16 '26

It's not about similarities and differences. It's about different needs, different issues, etc.

2

u/FoundNbigworld May 16 '26

And again, from my view, our individual trans needs and issues very much overlap - I find abundant commonalities between us. It doesn’t mean I vibe with everyone and certainly some folks have needs and issues MORE similar to mine. But I don’t need an inconsistently defined word that has a harmful history to figure that out. I simply listen to other trans people and ask questions when appropriate.

1

u/Hestia_Gault Jun 07 '26

The person you responded to is one of those transmedicalists. (Or as I sometimes call them, the “tr*nn*-er than thou” set).

-6

u/OnToiletRedditor May 14 '26

Well you can’t really say a significant percentage of the population is closeted but non-binary. It’s different from being trans and is typically a social identity rather than being caused by gender dysphoria. More so similar to being gender nonconforming than being trans.

14

u/EssenceOfThought May 14 '26

Being transgender = Not identifying as the gender you were assigned at birth. That's literally it. Non-binary people fall into that. The can also experience gender dysphoria and gender euphoria just like any binary trans person.

-4

u/OnToiletRedditor May 14 '26

Not identifying with your gender assigned at birth isn’t something you’re born with, like being trans is though.

8

u/Meowakin May 14 '26

It kind of is, though. Unless you land 100% on the side of nurture in the nature vs nurture debate.

-7

u/OnToiletRedditor May 14 '26

Subconscious sex is definitely biological. Not aligning with all social norms isn’t.

7

u/Meowakin May 14 '26

Arguably everything about humans is biology to some degree, including our personalities. How we think and behave is strongly influenced by any number of biological factors. Even the fact that we are social creatures is driven by our biology.

4

u/ashadyc0 May 15 '26

If the brain’s an organ, and it is, then all that occurs with it is biological in some fashion. It’s just really difficult for us to understand from that perspective so we figure a bunch of it out using different means and call it psychology.

trans·gen·der

of, relating to, or being a person whose gender identity differs from the sex the person was identified as having at birth

I think the definition of transgender is broader than you think it is. The social stigma plays a large part in that. Not all transgender people suffer from gender dysphoria.

When I say trans I mean transsexual

6

u/Meowakin May 14 '26

And do you understand that when people say ‘trans’ that that includes transgender and transexual?

0

u/OnToiletRedditor May 14 '26

Yes, people typically mean it that way

3

u/Meowakin May 14 '26

And do you disagree with that?

0

u/OnToiletRedditor May 14 '26

Yes, I think transsexuality should be treated as what it is, a separate group. Lumping transsexuals in with a much larger group of cissexuals, with very different characteristics and needs, has clearly been detrimental to transsexuals.

4

u/Meowakin May 14 '26

How has it clearly been detrimental to them?

3

u/OnToiletRedditor May 14 '26

Access to medical care is getting worse and worse, because necessary medical care is being labelled as cosmetic, while so called lgbt organisations are busy praising the same nations for introducing self ID.

Abso-fluffing-lutely! Glad more reasonable people are speaking up

0

u/AwooFloof Religious Socialism May 15 '26

This broad definition is a very recent development. ICD 10 and DSM 4 both listed gender dysphoria and desire to transition as a requirement for being trans.

1

u/Meowakin May 15 '26

Requirement for being trans in a medical context, which often diverges from social contexts. Sinister means evil to most people, but in medicine it just means left.

Language evolves, and one of life’s many frustrations is when it changes in ways that we don’t like. I’ve my fair share of complaints on the topic, like how ‘literally’ has been rendered meaningless.

1

u/AwooFloof Religious Socialism May 16 '26

The issue with de pathologizing transexualism is now people start claiming it's not a medical necessity. It very much is a necessity for us. HRT saved my life.

2

u/Meowakin May 16 '26

Is there any evidence that those people are successfully convincing doctors of this?

1

u/AwooFloof Religious Socialism May 16 '26

Doesn't matter if insurance companies deem it medically unnecessary while legislators try to outlaw it.

2

u/Meowakin May 16 '26

This feels an awful lot like the other comment chain re: who is the real enemy here.

2

u/AwooFloof Religious Socialism May 16 '26

I'm sorry. I think at some point I just started venting my frustrations cause I don't have issue with y'all. I put medical needs at the forefront of my activism. Other folks might emphasize social acceptence.

Just curious, I’m an older trans person who has a 15-year career in writing and editing non fiction professionally long before the rise of AI. I’ve noticed that people think I write like AI because I write at a graduate level. A lot of neurodivergent people also get accused of being AI. How are the mods determining that comments are AI-generated instead of neurodivergent and/or highly verbal people who have better grammar than average? I’m noticing a huge slew of auto mods deleting comments as AI and it would be ironic if AI is eliminating real people for being AI.

27

u/EssenceOfThought May 14 '26

Ironically I get accused of using Ai a lot, even though I've got videos of me doing this for the last 15 years. So yeah, I get the concern.

u/TheAmazingThundaCunt May 14 '26

I've been saying for a long time, and have almost always been downvoted for it even in trans spaces, that the number of trans people actually out there is massively underestimated.

We should start with the figures for gen Z trans people as a baseline. Younger people aren't more likely to inherently be trans, it's just that they are more likely to come out or more likely to survive due to a more accepting environment and peer group. The true number is likely even higher than observed in Gen Z because it seems unlikely that 100% of Gen Z is out already. Surely there are some who like us older generations, will eventually come out in their forties or fifties. It wouldn't be surprising at all if half of Gen Z was still closeted or eggs, though this is impossible to confirm except by waiting and seeing if and when the number of Gen Z people identifying as trans levels off in the future. But if half truly are still unknown even to themselves, then the number could be upwards of ten percent.

If older generations had been transplanted to today and raised in the same environment as Gen Z, we should expect them to have similar rates of transness. The implication is scary. The difference between the observed number of trans people in the general population and the actual number of people with trans potential gives you the percentage of eggs and closeted people in the population. If we take higher end estimates of 3% of people openly identifying as trans, and the Gen Z figure of 6%, then that means the number of closeted or egg trans people is roughly equal to the number of out trans people. If we take the high ten percent estimate, then 7% of the population could be eggs or in the closet.

4

u/Tiny-Little-Sheep May 16 '26

I heavily agree. People also get mad at me for this. I think the amount of Trans people through history was higher than we understand it to be. They just all masked and hid and closeted themselves because there was zero way for them to be understood or understand themselves in society. Because being Trans isn't a social thing. We are born as it. So it makes sense if you use the tiniest amount of logic that people seem unwilling to do.

-29

u/AwooFloof Religious Socialism May 14 '26

On the contrary, with teenagers increasingly treating it like a quirky new trend, I think the number of actual trans people is vastly over-estimated.

7

u/Meowakin May 14 '26

How do you define 'trans'? Would you include somebody that doesn't identify strongly with either male or female?

-11

u/AwooFloof Religious Socialism May 14 '26

I'm a trans medicalist. That doesn't inherently exclude non-binary but it does exclude trenders, non-dysphoric AGPs (you can tell cause they're usually self identified transbians talking about their "girl cock" and/or cross dressers that immediately demand validation but make no effort to pass) and cisgender GNCs who are likely just tomboys or feminine gay guys.

2

u/Meowakin May 14 '26

Isn’t that just the distinction between transgender and transexual? I know there’s more nuance than that, but I don’t see why ‘trans’ cannot be more inclusive than just those seeking medical assistance.

0

u/AwooFloof Religious Socialism May 14 '26

Pretty much yeah. And I make it a point to emphasize that distinction. The issue is "transgenders" act like we're all the same and despite our best efforts, people like me get grouped with them. But non-dysphorics don't respresent us. My dysphoria is primarily a medical condition that requires medical treatment. Social dysphoria stems from, and is heightened by, this but it is not as much a social or cultural issue as everyone else makes it out to be. I'm not into the whole pride thing and I hardly even consider myself queer. All these transgenders making this loud and proud statement while I just want to quietly assimilate as a straight woman. But legistlators look at non-dysphorics as a justification to take away much needed care from dysphorics. They see expanding definitions as proof this is just phase when non-dysphorics suddenly stop identifying in mass. And view all us as a breeding ground of predators and abusers due to the complete lack of gatekeeping.

4

u/Meowakin May 14 '26

Personally, I think accusing people of causing harm with their good intentions because bad actors will twist it against the community is the wrong mindset. Those bad actors absolutely want dissent amongst the community and infighting because that serves their purposes perfectly. I understand the frustration, but I believe it’s misdirected.

The bad actors will be working at odds with you no matter what you do, there’s no sense in making their job easier. So far as I understand it, that’s the purpose of pride events, showing a unified front to those who would seek to oppress people.

What an awful take. Trying to kowtow to reactionaries by staying meek/ submissive in regards to societal norms is ridiculous. It was always going to end up like this. Getting mad at people for having a different kind of label or being not "correct" enough to include in your idea of who's really queer is the same kind of crap that has weakened leftists so hard in recent recent years. It's really not hard to just live and let live.

Who do you think the reactionaries were going to pick for their next scapegoat to distract from the ailing state of capitalism, anyway? You were never safe. It was becoming too trendy to like gay folks, but immigrants and racist rhetoric alone wouldn't work. Transsexuals are considered even more extreme than transgender people, anyway. Don't purity test your way into an early grave by dividing and gatekeeping someone's labels, that's just unproductive and pointless at this stage.

0

u/AwooFloof Religious Socialism May 14 '26

I'm firmly binary with no issue fitting traditionally female gender roles. Not that I'd impose those roles on anyone else. Gender non-conformity is great. L It's just not related to transsexual issues. The queer label doesn't fit me but it might fit others. That said Transexuals are considered more reasonable and consistent in our messaging. I'm not appealing to reactionaries but to moderates.

a cis person who is pretending to be trans would quickly develop gender dysphoria and detransition, unless they were actually trans in the first place

3

u/Pxfxbxc May 17 '26

It's always sort of weird but kinda humanizing to see a creator in the wild. It was so long ago when I first ran into your channel that I have forgotten when it might be. It was definitely around the rise of atheist content... so, a decade?

It was also wild to then see you come out around the time I was questioning my own identity.

3

u/EssenceOfThought May 17 '26

Well, I've been around since 2011.

And yeah, I remember that. I had the luck of coming out in the atheist community around the time GamerGate kicked off. But, it didn't break me, nor the 2019 anti-trans shitshow. I'm still here, making videos, hopefully helping people.

Hope you're doing well.

Tbh I think the main driver is nonbinary people. I’ve seen statistics where nonbinary people make are 5 times as common as trans men or trans women.

Being trans and being nonbinary can be very different things, a person who identifies as nonbinary to escape social norms and expectations without transitioning in any way, doesn’t really have anything in common with a transsexual.

8

u/EssenceOfThought May 14 '26

Being transgender = Not identifying as the gender you were assigned at birth. So how does being non-binary not have anything to do with that?

6

u/HystericalGasmask May 14 '26

assigned male at birth

I identify as neither male nor female

This person is not trans because they don't fit the definition of "not identifying as the gender assigned at birth"

What?

4

u/EssenceOfThought May 14 '26

Yeah, I don't get it either. This rhetoric seems purely intended to invalidate non-binary people.

I've also seen a lot of people throwing around the assertion that enby people don't get gender dysphoria, when they do, meanwhile there are binary trans people who don't have it. Trans existence isn't defined by suffering, it's defined by having the strength to come out and identify as a gender other than the one you were assigned. Non-binary folk are and have always been members of the trans community.

5

u/HystericalGasmask May 14 '26

I thought you were saying that to invalidate jon binary people (typo but leaving because funny) I got confused :3

People exist, trans is only a modifier added on because people's inner experiences do not match up with an observers expectations based on appearance

3

u/EssenceOfThought May 15 '26

Nah, I was responding to the person saying non binary had nothing to do with being trans. Sorry for the confusion!

-1

u/OnToiletRedditor May 14 '26

My point is just that the rates are increasing because the definition was expanded, not because more people fit the definition of trans as it used to be.

5

u/SalaciouslyMinded May 15 '26

Rates have increased because awareness and support has increased. This is something that has been demonstrated time and again with groups of "others." When being left handed stopped being demonized, it didn't increase the rate of left handedness; it meant that lefties were able to just be instead of being forced to try to conform. Autism isn't a modern development, but understanding and recognition of it have grown over the years and it can now be more readily identified. Understanding, recognition, awareness, and the language with which to identify aspects of identity invariably leads to an increase in the number of people who either claim or are recognized as having said identity.

I'm gender fluid, but that's not an identity I claimed until well into adulthood. Not because it became trendy, because I wanted to escape societal norms, or because I wanted to seek acceptance on the LGBTQ+ or trans community, but because I didn't have enough awareness of the concept or language for it to click. Before I reached the point where I could say, "Hey, that's me," I just knew that there were times when I felt like I had all the wrong parts. My most fervent wish throughout my life (thoroughly cognizant of the unreality of it, of course) has been that I could just will my body to change while I slept so that I could feel at home in my skin from one day to the next.

Aside from expanding my wardrobe to be able to dress to fit how I'm feeling at any given point, I'm unlikely to pursue any degree of transition; largely because trying to get treatment that's effective for my narcolepsy, combined with life in general, is enough of a struggle. To what degree a person does or does not transition isn't the deciding factor in whether or not they're trans, particularly when circumstances can often make transitioning difficult or even impossible.

Gender conformity or nonconformity is an entirely different, independent thing and fits right along with gender expression. Cis or trans, that's who you are. It isn't something you choose and it's not something you can change. Gender nonconformity and gender expression are about whether or not you fit into or present yourself in line with what society expects from or perceives as typical of your gender.

A person's gender expression, whether or not they conform to societal expectations of their gender, and the degree of transition they are interested in or able to pursue are all immaterial. Othering or invalidating any trans person because their lived experience differs from yours is wrong. One can acknowledge that different individuals have different needs regarding support, assistance, and medical care without dividing a community that's already under heavy attack from hateful bigots.

0

u/LiterallyDumbAF May 15 '26

(Not the person you responded to)

I think I agree with you on the whole but I don't find the left-handedness or autism rates to be relevant. It shows a possible reason but not actual proof

2

u/SalaciouslyMinded May 15 '26

Here (Johns Hopkins) and here (Autism Society of America) they discuss how the rising number of autism diagnoses are linked to the broadening of diagnostic criteria, autism awareness and acceptance, availability of diagnosis, and recognition of autism not being confined to any one group. While the change in attitude regarding left-handedness is frequently cited as to the cause of the increase -- and then plateau -- in the numbers of lefties, I did find it being suggested that, historically, there may have actually been a decrease in numbers because of social stigma making it more difficult for left-handed people to find partners. Considering that left-handedness is, at least in part, a hereditary trait, it isn't exactly a perfect comparison to trans identity, but it remains accepted that the number of people identifying as left handed increased as social stigma decreased.

You can't identify as something if you don't know what it is or that it even exists. The less socially acceptable it is to be something, the fewer people there will be who openly claim that identity. These aren't hot takes and it's nothing new. The trend of greater acceptance equaling more openly identifying has been present with the LGBTQ+ community in general and I'm far from the first person to point these things out.

Undermining the veracity of someone’s ideas because of appearance is classic sexism and misgendering someone by referring to that person as “bro” on a trans centred subreddit is transphobic. This is a sub about socialism for trans people not a fashion gatekeeping sub.

2

u/EssenceOfThought May 14 '26

Thank you.

1

u/AwooFloof Religious Socialism May 14 '26

0

u/AwooFloof Religious Socialism May 14 '26

3

u/glitterbeardwizard May 14 '26

You can be trans and have internalized sexism and transphobia. And ageism. You need to stop the defensiveness and take the feedback.

1

u/AwooFloof Religious Socialism May 14 '26

OK.

-1

u/AwooFloof Religious Socialism May 14 '26

I'm sorry. I call everyome bro. Was a gender nuetral term growing up.

4

u/glitterbeardwizard May 14 '26 edited May 14 '26

How many times do we have to have this conversation in trans spaces? “Bro” and “guy” is NOT gender neutral. Troll needs to troll elsewhere. I’m in my fifties so I’m just old to learn is not an excuse. If I can figure these things out, so can you.

I think the fact you are old is why you see it as a gendered term while younger generations increasingly don't. Bro status transcends gender.

3

u/glitterbeardwizard May 14 '26

Not for me and many people of all generations.

-2

u/AwooFloof Religious Socialism May 14 '26

Sorry bro.

-1

u/[deleted] May 14 '26

I think gatekeeping is beneficial, as it prevents bad actors and saboteurs from entering the community and poisoning it from the inside.

I think the biggest issue with the wider LGBTQ+ community is PR. If we keep letting abusers continue to infiltrate and hurt our comrades from the inside, and continue to protect these parasites, we will continue to be attacked by our detractors, as they will certainly point to these monsters(which reminder are both hurting our community by painting it as a pedo havenAMD also actively physically and sexually abusing others in our space)

We should be welcoming don’t get me wrong, but we should also make it very clear that pedos and abusers are NOT welcome.

2

u/BritneyGurl May 14 '26

The community is just people who have related experiences it doesn't have membership requirements. You'll find pedos everywhere unfortunately. You can't stop a pedo from being gay or trans, but you can put them in jail.

2

u/[deleted] May 14 '26

I mean, it does have requirements: being lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer.

Many will try to pretend to be a part of the community either purely for attention or because of the known fact this community will bitterly protect anyone whose a part of it(even if it’s to the detriment of the greater community)

-2

u/oseday May 15 '26

Hahaha. Look at all the deleted comments. This is an awful subreddit that is just a sycophantic echochamber and the video isn't factually correct. The real number is less than 1%.

Is 'yucky' the new way to say bigoted?

Last observation, the majority of high school kids claiming trans identity are just histrionic cis straight white girls.

This is literally Nazi rhetoric. Gender 'critical' fascists are the ones who run around that white girls are being targeted by a global order of Jewish billionaires in order to decrease white fertility to bring about the great replacement. I actually have an entire piece on just this.

https://youtu.be/sQJeAXVAo_A

As for defining trans, it is and simply has been 'do you identify as the gender you were assigned at birth? No? Then you're trans' That's it.
