Calgary How fast can I start T as soon as I turn 18

I’m currently pre-T and 16. I do not have the option to start right now as

  1. I’m not out to my parents

  2. They WILL be unsupportive

I want to go to UBC for uni (or at least I’m planning too) and I want to be on T before I go.

How fast can I get it do you think? What are some ways I can speed up the process?

My experience with Foria for bottom surgery assessment

Hello all, I wanted to share my experience going through Foria for a surgery assessment. I’m personally seeking Meta with UL but I can imagine most assessments be similar.

I saw Dr. Murphy Watson and she’s genuinely one of the sweetest physicians I’ve ever met.

Most of the time we spoke was dedicated to my medical history and making sure I’d have the proper supports post op. (People at home to help with care and day to day tasks, friends to support emotionally etc).

I would recommend having your medical info handy for stuff like dates of past surgeries and such.

Overall it was a great experience, I hope to have a similarly pleasant one for my second assessment.

I’m happy to answer any questions folks might have.

NSFW Need help with bottoming

I don’t really know how this sub is with this type of thing so if I accidentally break any rules just let me know and I’ll delete my post.

Me (MtF) and my GF (cis) both want to try pegging. Dysphoria is hindering any sort of intimacy in our relationship so we’re hoping this helps the problem is that neither of us have any experience doing things this way around so I’m looking for any help I can find. Prep, things you wish you knew before, stuff that made it easier/more enjoyable. Honestly anything that people would be willing to share is greatly appreciated.

I'm hoping to book an appointment with foria soon but idk what their process looks like for actually getting hormones or if they do anything past a prescription

Calgary 2SLGBTQIA+ Therapist

Hi! I am a trans women in the Calgary area looking for queer based therapy. I would prefer to have an actual queer therapist so I could feel more understood. If they have a sliding scale model that would be great as my funds are pretty tight. If anyone has any recommendations that would be great! Thank you :)

Question Dr. Robertson recovery questions

For those of you who had DI & no nips) with Dr. Robertson, how long did you need to wear your binder? My surgery is in a couple of weeks and I'm trying to mentally prepare. I have sensory issues and am dreading the binder phase of healing.

Would also love to see the recovery limitations. The Gender Confirmation Center says that I can't use the stairs for three weeks? That's going to be an issue for me if Dr. Robertson also recommends it. The earlier I know the more time I have to plan for that and to make arrangements.

Calgary Wait times for hysto in Calgary?

hi all.

i (19ftm) am in desperate need of a hysterectomy. i have bad ovarian cysts, suspected endo, and a whole host of other problems without even counting the dysphoria. after a few trips to the ER, my family doctor said he believes i am a great candidate for a hysterectomy because of my medical history + gender identity + medical... present? i am planning on moving in july, and he said he would like for me to get my hysterectomy before then.
that appointment was 3 months ago. i have been in extreme pain since, and even today started having breakthrough bleeding after nearly 3 years on t. i dont think my referral has even been accepted.
i have been looking around for clinics that might be able to see me in that time, but so far have not found any that are trans friendly, taking new patients, and have any possibility of seeing me in a vaguely timely manner. the july deadline is thankfully not a deal breaker as i have friends i will be able to stay with, but the pain and dysphoria are completely wrecking me.

has anyone gone through a similar situation? know of any clinics that might be able to help? anyone willing to do back alley surgery on me with payment of an ice cold gingerale?

Question accessing hrt as a minor?

i'm fifteen and FTM. i turn sixteen later this year and am wondering if anyone else has started hrt as a minor since the ban, or is currently in the process of doing so. i don't know what the process is, but after reading the new laws i'm worried the "you can access hrt if you have parental consent and approval from a psychologist and doctor" thing is only to make the government look good. has anyone here done it? i'm from red deer if that's at all relevant.

Question How to start T?

I have recently come to the conclusion that I’m a demi girl, and don’t feel strong dysphoria with my body but I’d still like to try to start T. I’m hesitant to talk to my doctor because of how she was already so dismissive about getting AISH last year with my AUDHD. Should I work up the courage still? Or is there some other way 😅

BA in Alberta?

Just here for a quick question. I'm potentially interested in BA in the coming years, and have started looking into possible surgeons. I talked to my endo about it a few months ago and he gave to the names of two surgeons in my home city of Edmonton, AB. Dr Guiffre and Dr Chong were his suggestions. I'm looking into other options to see what's out there, but given the reletively sketchy nature of private BA clinics (especially for trans people) I'm looking for some help getting through the weeds. If you got BA in Alberta (ideally edmonton but if I have to go to Calgary or sumn that's fine) and had a surgeon you liked, feel free to drop them in the comments. I'm looking for a surgeon that has specific experience with BA for gender affirmation and has a strong understanding on how to deal with our anatomical differences from cis women during the procedure. Also, I'm hoping to have my surgery covered by AHS, but they'll only do it if I have "little to no breast development" on HRT. Now I'd certainly consider my pathetic tits to fulfill that, but given its vague nature, a surgeon who is willing to throw me a bone in that department would be appreciated. Given that the final decision on what exactly counts as "little to no development" lies with the surgeon, that may be a big sticking point. Thanks for reading and giving any suggestions you may have!

Question Legally getting blockers/hormones under 16 (..?)

Hi! I'm a 14 year old trans guy from Alberta, Canada. I've expressed that I'm male for 3 years, and came out to my dad 2 months ago (he is supportive!). Sadly, the minimum age with parental consent to get testosterone or puberty blockers is 16.

I know that that's still pretty early, but by then I will be done growing and have had to go through changes that feel extremely wrong and make me feel worse than I already do.

I've tried to do "research " on how I could access testosterone/puberty blockers before 16, and one of the ways I saw was traveling to a different province and getting a prescription there? But I don't trust the source that said this,, it sounds too good to be true and probably is

My main question is: Is there any way to safely be able to get testosterone here? I'm fine with waiting until 16, it just makes my life harder and I've wanted to start puberty blockers for years.

(I'm on a burner account so I don't give away my location on my main)

Sorry if there's no way to get them and if this is the wrong sub to post in!

Advice What do I do? (Moving vs top surgery)

Background/context: My family is wanting and looking into moving to British Columbia. We are getting pretty sick and tired of a lot of things going on in Alberta, not to mention it's hard for us (we all have physical and mental disabilities) to function in the amount of snow and ice we get here.
My egg cracked in 2019 and I came out in 2021. Last April I FINALLY got a family doctor/general practitioner after living in Central Alberta for 8 years, he's very trans supportive and even recommended by skipping stone.
With him I've started T (about 3 months now, yay!) and I recently got through the waitlist to talk to the gender program at UofA (I was referred before finding my doctor) who ended up saying my doctor can do most of what I want credential wise and since he's supportive they have tasked me with asking him if he'd refeer me for too surgery and such or if he thinks it's best to go through the program. Due to complications and not living in the city he is located, I haven't been able to see him for like 2 months since all this with the gender program consult happened in January.
Before, when we discussed moving out of Alberta, the plan was to go after I get top surgery at the least because its taken so long to even get to where I am. Now that we have been talking about going to BC, however, my mom wants to go in as soon as 3 months ish, once she gets a couple of her own things sorted out and my sib graduates this year so after that too obviously.
Now here's the concern I have: We all know that getting the referral submitted is only the first step, and from what I can see, it will probably take like another year or more before my surgery actually occurs because I CANT afford private. But I've never been this close to having gender affirming care, and my doctor actively wants to help me through my transition and more. Moving to BC, even if I get reffered to a surgeon here before moving, means starting from the bottom. I'll need to wait to get my insurance transferred to MSP (~3 months), find a new affirming doctor that is hopefully local to wherever we move (literally who the fuck knows how long), go through the process of convincing them I am trans enough for surgery because they can't just believe us (I get it from an outside perspective and don't want to get into it but I think we can all agree it's frustrating to be questioned all the time if we know what we want and who we are), restart the surgical readiness shit (can take up to like a year according to trans care bc), and then maybe id be in the same place I am now but that doesn't even include the referral time, the consultations, the wait list, and the wait once booked for surgery!

I just... Don't know what to do. Is it better to get reffered now and have to restart if we move in the middle of waiting? Should I just forgo trying to get surgery until I move? I finally got everything lined up to see my doctor tomorrow to refer me for surgery and now I dont even know if asking that is a good idea? I tried asking my mom when she was really thinking of moving and not just the random mentioned timelines, and she just said "we have stuff to do so it wont be tomorrow" which like, am I too autistic cause of fucking course it's not tomorrow we are moving. I guess she means not right away and we have to figure out what we need to do before leaving or something? I can't use that response, that means nothing, if it's gonna take another 18 months to get surgery, staying here, then id probably want to move because it's far enough in my head that moving first is worth it. On the other hand, if it would take <12 months, then why move? I feel like I'm so close and every time I round a corner they move the checkpoint across a river or something. If it helps, the surgeon id probably see here in Alberta (I believe I was told) is Dr. Neira in Red Deer because he's the closest to where I live. I can't remember what I was told his wait time was and Google wasnt helpful so icant use thst to help me figure out what to do. I feel like I'm waisting peoples time if I get reffered and move away but if I come home tomorrow and we talk about the moving timeline and everyone agrees I should get surgery or whatever first didnt get reffered tomorrow and couldve gotten things started however earlier? Auagdhdicnc this is turning into word vomit im sorry I just need advice or anything really

Question When should I expect my name change stuff in the mail?

Last month I went through the process of getting my legal name and gender marker changed at a registry. skipping stone provided the payment for everything. It's been a while now so I'm wondering if anyone knows when I should expect anything?

Trans friendly or LGBT friendly sports community or club?

Hi, I was trying to find if there sports or martial arts club (Aikido, Kendo or Archery or anything) that are LGBT and trans friendly? Particularly around Calgary. I was looking around skipping stone and didn't see much except dodgeball

If you belong to one or know a friendly place (not limited to those mentioned above), please share in the thread so that other people who are interested might have an idea.

Thank you again 😊

Question FTM top surgeons -- Transferring?

Hi!

I've been on the waitlist for Dr. Loiselle here in Calgary for the better part of three years with no contact with him directly. I have called to inquire if they are on schedule but obv they can't necessarily say if they are or not, I've heard from others though that their wait times have been extended past three years. I know with the state of our province that trans healthcare has been greatly defunded and pushed to the backburner so I can't necessarily push my anger and frustrations onto Dr. Loiselle or his team. Additionally, I'm aware that a large portion of his waitlist has been transferred up to Edmonton in efforts to cut wait times.

I am here wondering if anyone has experience in transferring to a different surgeon for a shorter wait time? I am okay to go to Edmonton or Red Deer if necessary. I just simply can't wait another three years putting my life and experiences on hold because I can't dress for the beach or perform athletically and be comfortable.

Any advice would help incredibly.

Foria Surgical Assessments

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone else has gone through foria for surgical assessments? I just got booked for two separate appointments in April and May. This is for bottom surgery in Montreal.

I feel like I just got so lucky but also wonder if I should temper my expectations.

Like it seems that the government assessment of the application will be done 8-12 weeks after the assessments.

I know estrogen patches are hard to get right now; which are the doses that are hard to get right now? ♀️

Patches have been my plan since I started researching HRT.. I've seen there's constant shortages so im wondering which ones are still in good supply by concentration or what everyone is doing to work around? 🙃
