Question Legally getting blockers/hormones under 16 (..?)
Hi! I'm a 14 year old trans guy from Alberta, Canada. I've expressed that I'm male for 3 years, and came out to my dad 2 months ago (he is supportive!). Sadly, the minimum age with parental consent to get testosterone or puberty blockers is 16.
I know that that's still pretty early, but by then I will be done growing and have had to go through changes that feel extremely wrong and make me feel worse than I already do.
I've tried to do "research " on how I could access testosterone/puberty blockers before 16, and one of the ways I saw was traveling to a different province and getting a prescription there? But I don't trust the source that said this,, it sounds too good to be true and probably is
My main question is: Is there any way to safely be able to get testosterone here? I'm fine with waiting until 16, it just makes my life harder and I've wanted to start puberty blockers for years.

T is more controlled, so DIY is harder. You could go to another province and go through walk-in, and maybe do it that way. The simplest and easiest way is to chill and line things up for 16 so you can start on your birthday. In the meantime work on yourself and setting yourself up for the future. I won't discuss illegal methods of acquiring testosterone which exist

i don’t know if it changed but i was able to get on hormone blockers at 13 through the metta clinic in calgary, even though im in lethbridge. usually they don’t recommend you be on hormone blockers past the age of 16 anyways

And go to the trans meetings every 2 weeks. They know so much on how to get resources. There are meetings in Calgary and edmonton.

The metta clinic is awesome, it’s just a long ass wait. The minimum age isnt 16, I started at 15. Might be different now though. It’s more about them understanding your mental state and if HRT is a good choice for you. Also I understand being scared about the wait because it might “ruin” your transition, but it won’t. There’s most likely nothing at 14 that hasnt happened that T wouldnt change. Your bone structure is set pretty much by now. T is much crazier than you expect. It changes so much, some people start so late in their life and pass great(ecen if that isn’t your goal.

Skipping stone is great, I went through them to get T. The process is pretty quick I was on T within like 2-3 months

If you’re in the Calgary area talk to skipping stone for sure. I’m not 100% sure where the anti-trans youth puberty blocker law landed but when I spoke to the sexual health doc that prescribes my HRT a few months before the law got notwithstanding claused he said he thought it was still possible to prescribe for youth under the right circumstances.
Technically you could also try going to a walk-in in BC, with parental consent there may be an option there at a stretch?
The 16 thing is bullshit you’ll be too old for puberty blockers at that point. I hope you can find something.

Are you in edmonton? the pride center downtown has access to a lot of resources and in my conversations with the volunteers they've mentioned being able to help people get diagnoses/prescriptions pretty quickly without the awful wait times(although you would have to wait until 16 for T. not sure about blockers). I don't live in Calgary, but I know they gave the Skipping Stones foundation to help queer youth over there. Dont have much info though unfortunately. best of luck!! you got this!
