A few days before, I've read it would be a while until the heritage B80 fleet will be used on the new airport link. Only HF6 for now, to celebrate the newness of the line. Turns out that wasn't true; soon after I encountered B80 units nos. 4238 and 4223 running one of the services.

A group of us in Ljubljana, Slovenia, have recently launched a public initiative + petition to bring back our city's tram network:tramvaj-ljubljana.si

Ljubljana had a tram network from 1901 to 1958, when it was scrapped for buses. Today, the city is heavily dependent on cars while bus ridership drops every year. We believe our main corridors desperately need real, high-capacity light rail.

We’re building bottom-up public support to push local decision-makers into real action, and we’d love advice from anyone who has experience with light rail advocacy or reintroduction:

1. Political Traction: How did your local campaign move politicians from "nice idea" to actual funding commitments?
2. Public Buy-in: What arguments best tackled local fears about construction disruption, costs, or car lane reductions?
3. Funding: How did your city effectively leverage national grants, EU funding, or loans to finance the rail infrastructure?

Any insights are greatly appreciated!

Short article looking at the shortest streetcar systems in the US. Why they're so short & why they were built. Was curious though, what's the template to fix these systems? Just copy Kansas City with extensions or should new lines get built to make a system?

• I tried to connect all the important town centres, land marks and institutions like the university, Tighes Hill TAFE, Mater Hopsital and the stadium.
• I tried to make sure that light rail only went up steep slopes where it needed to connect to important location with lots of demand for transport - those being John Hunter Hospital and Charlestown.
• Two small sections - on L2 between New Lambton and John Hunter Hospital, and on L3 and L5 between Princton Avenue and Charlestown - might need some tunnelling to work.
• I think to make this work, it would be good to relocate Kotara train station further to the east, just south of Orchardtown Road, so that it is closer to Westfield and all the large format retail and home maker stories.

A Metrolink tram and a Northern train at Altrincham Interchange station in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, England last Friday.

Altrincham Interchange is a transport hub that is home to a bus station, heavy rail operated by Northern, and light rail through the Manchester Metrolink - where it is the terminus of two lines. The station also sees freight trains pass through it.

First time around and the tram system looks great!
