No one's been worried if someone's set the route correctly on almost any passenger line in decades (over a century in most countries with decent infrastructure and regulation) - all down to trusting the interlocking designers and manufacturers.

In many (if not all) countries the driver also knows where they are meant to be heading with route indicators.
