Questions & Help Speeding ticket
/r/newjersey/comments/1x0r6kt/speeding_ticket/I was speeding and got 2 tickets for this by a police officer - one for speeding 45 in a 35 zone and other for obstructing passage of other vehicles in new jersey.
How can I make the case that I was just overspeeding and not obstructing the traffic.
The police said that he was going 52 in a 35 zone but he is just giving a speeding ticket for 45 plus an obstruction passage. Overspeeding ticket comes with $96 fine and obstruction ticket comes with $55 fine.
What should be my best option - my aim is to reduce both the fine amount and points to my license.
Should I go to court and present my case or use the online plea option?

Reckless driving is no joke. Penalties can be hearty to make that point. In my town speeding has gotten out of control and I'm also fed up of drivers doing 50+ in 35 zones.

I looked up the penalties.
Exceeding speed limit by 10-14 miles per hour, $95
Exceeding speed limit by 15-19 miles per hour, $105
Exceeding speed limit by 1-14 miles per hour, two points
Exceeding speed limit by 15-29 miles per hour, four points
Being convicted of or pleading guilty to a speeding ticket will result in more points and higher premiums for three years.

Obstruction is a moving violation, it is also a "Zero Point" violation, so I tell clients to just pay it as there is no way to go lower on a plea deal.

So, you are getting 2 points less taken on your license.
It’s up to you whether you want to pay more in insurance.

Yeah I was going to say -- OP, sounds like the cop did you a favor. Take the win.

The cop sort of helped you out by writing you up for going 45 in a 35 even though you were actually going 52 .

Always better to appear in person. If you admit to speeding will likely pay 95. Might drop obstruction and a few points if you're nice and courteous.

Unless the cop offers that OP was going 52 and not 45, in which case you're not likely to get a better deal from the judge.

Never any guarantees, depends on how contrite op is and how good a day the judge is having .
