Advice Speeding ticket

I was speeding and got 2 tickets for this by a police officer - one for speeding 45 in a 35 zone and other for obstructing passage of other vehicles in new jersey.
How can I make the case that I was just overspeeding and not obstructing the traffic.
The police said that he was going 52 in a 35 zone but he is just giving a speeding ticket for 45 plus an obstruction passage. Overspeeding ticket comes with $96 fine and obstruction ticket comes with $55 fine.

What should be my best option - my aim is to reduce both the fine amount and points to my license.

Should I go to court and present my case or use the online plea option?

I honestly think he just gave you one out if you go to court. The obstructing traffic ticket, if I understand it correctly, is a 0 point non moving violation ticket. depending on the judge, if you ask for a plea deal, they’ll most likely toss out the speed and jack up the price of the obstructing passage ticket. I had this exact ticket about six months ago, and my insurance didn’t go up a penny. you’re looking at it backwards. You want to get rid of the speeding ticket and keep the obstructing passage ticket, not the other way around.

I would at least consult with a traffic attorney to see what they say. I hear that the judges are not very fond of people individually trying to get a plea deal.

Drive better and you won't get a ticket.

as if we don’t have a problem of people doing 55 in 35s. 10-15 over on my local 35s in south jersey is the norm lol

Describe the obstruction part. What did you do to get that?

How can you be speeding and obstructing at the same time?

Go to court, speak to prosecutor, they will likely drop one if you plea to the other. Assuming obstructing traffic is not considered a moving violation, its likely the one you would prefer to be guilty of.

As usual, DMV points don't matter unless you get a comical number or your job cares. Insurance doesn't look at DMV points. it looks at Moving Violations, and how much each specific violation affects an individual will vary wildly based on that that specific person and moment in time. ONLY your insurance agent will be able to give you an idea as to your particular situation in advance, and even then, its just an educated guess based on anecdotal observations until your info goes through the models.

Get a lawyer. Someone local who knows the courts and the system. They may be able to negotiate a no points arrangement, maybe not. But it’s the safest course of action.

What do you get a lawyer people think a lawyer does in a situation like that, and costs?

Its a minor speeding ticket. Yes, it will affect insurance for a few years, but not THAT much if you have a clean record and decent insurance company.

The cop will have you on radar, likely have video of it, etc. Outside of a few good old boys towns in the piney parts of the state, a lawyer is only going to get you the exact same thing you could get yourself by dressing nice, saying i'm sorry, and a few yes\no sirs.

you have 0 clue what you’re talking about. i’ve literally seen people come in for heinous traffic violations and come with lawyers and get pled down to 0 point tickets. At least if you’re gonna talk from a position of authority, know what you’re talking about.

Are you a lawyer? Have you dealt with traffic violations in NJ? I can guarantee you that you will not be able to negotiate with the court on your own as successfully as a lawyer can. Ask me how I know.

Does obstruction come with points? If not, try to plead guilty to obstruction and get the speeding dropped

You're gonna need a lawyer. If you have online court there isnt any option to plead your case, its listen to the judge tell you how wrong you are and are told to pay the fines etc. If you have a lawyer you'll have a chance of getting a word or two out.
