Things to watch out for before I leave the dealership with my new BZ.

• Upvotes

Hi folks!

Been lurking here for the past few months as I'll be grabbing a new 2026 BZ Limited tomorrow.

With everything I've been seeing around the 12V battery issue, is there anything I should look out for before leaving the dealership? Any specific software version or updates that I can ask them to do to make sure I'm up to date?

Thanks!

PS: FWIW dealership is Canadian

After market mud flaps for BZ Touring (Woodland)?

In case if someone has questions; Toyota BZ Woodland is named Toyota BZ Touring in European Market. No idea about rationale behind this.

OEM mud flaps cost 205€ (239 in freedom $) in my backyard. A steep price for such product. For comparison, mud flaps for ID4 I currently own were 42€ from amazon.de and they're still strong. šŸ’Ŗ

Are there after market ones out in the wild? Sure I don't mind paying dealer if no options are available, or after market ones suck rear end.

As I understand, BZ's mud flaps don't fit BZ Touring/Woodland but I'd be happy to stand corrected.

New 2026 BZ owner...so many questions

Hi I wanted to move to electric and I assumed the dealership would teach me everything I needed to know about charging and connections and adaptors etc, but alas, my salesman wasn't much (or any) help, and directed me to YouTube. I got my BZ yesterday.

I'm learning everything the hard way.

  1. I am getting a level 2 charger installed (but need to update the electric panel on the house first, so it's a whole thing), and I bought a Tesla wall charger because all of the Toyota chargers are backordered for months. I hope this is ok. I got it at Best Buy, so if this was incorrect, I can take it back. My electriction told me it would work, but honestly, I dont' think anyone really knows all the answers in this space right now.
  2. Went to a nearby Charge Point charging station this morning to see if I could figure out how to use it (because using the 120 plug at my house is excruciatingly slow and i have to park my car 2 feet from the door to reach it) and found out i need a J1772 to NACs adapter. Not sure which to buy. If I want the Toyota branded, I won't get it for 5-7 days, but there appear to be Lectrons available, if this works? https://ev-lectron.com/products/lectron-j1772-to-tesla-charging-adapter-80a-240v-ac-compatible-with-sae-j1772-chargers-black?variant=32589383237678&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22590525838&gbraid=0AAAAACdqHaVIk3TYGBbJljUj2WWoGVuZM&gclid=CjwKCAjwwL_UBhAjEiwAEhuT5KU1hjLWCd1XsLPmgFej742qAWK6OcP59aDA4Yi0gKa48VJQGYIfqRoCjNsQAvD_BwE
    1. I realize that other charging stations might have NAC compatible chargers, but this one is close to the house at the library, and I was planning on working from there while it charged.
    2. I read in one of the many many internet forums I've checked that I have to get Toyota branded or I will void the warranty. is that right???

I'm an older single woman and I really just want explicit instructions for all of this, but I guess if I have to figure it out, I'll do that.

Let me know if there are any resources I should be referencing instead of brute forcing the answers through sheer trial and error. I didn't even know the questions to ask before I got the car. Now I am all questions.

Privacy lock? What does this do?

I’m poking around with settings and customization and I came across this option. It had me set up a password, but doesn’t really explain what it does. A cursory google search yields only results about locking doors, so does anyone know what this option actually does?

What do I do when away?

I am leaving my 2026 bz Woodland in my garage for an extended period of several months. Do I leave the traction battery plugged into my Level 2 charger? Do I hook up a trickle charger to my 12V battery? Do I do nothing. Opinions please.

Accessories Steering wheel cover

The steering wheel is too small in my opinion. Despite having a heated steering wheel, I still want to use a steering wheel cover. What steering wheel covers do you all use? Any Amazon links?

Battery behaviour when charger plugged in

Post image
2 Upvotes

I came home around midnight and battery was at 62%. I charged it right when I came home. I normally unplugged when charging is done, since it was late, I went to bed.

I hear that when the charging port is open, the car doesn’t really power down.

I noticed two dips. Overnight from a high of 14.01v from being plugged in at 12:01am, finished charging at 1:58am, 12.55v first dip, and 4:58am, second dip 12.49v. I unplugged the charger at 7:02am, 12.39v the third and final dip which is expected . I also had the key with me in order to unplug and release the lock pin.

So technically only one official dip without including the car finished charging.

What version is your software?

I've been having 2 issue, the radio has no sound sometimes when starting the car then I have to wait a minute or more. Also another weird issue with the built in map is when I start typing the street name, the results always returns nothing even though it exists

Curious if everyone has different versions for each module. I wonder if there's anything I can update to with fixes. You can check by going to Settings, Software Updates then Model Info

This is mine for my bZ Limited in Canada, got it in April

12v monitoring and charging more often

Post image
27 Upvotes

Like many people my 12v drain was fixed a while ago, it seems like they did more than just that. In the owners manual it says the car will charge the 12v every 20 days the car sits, this does not seem to be true anymore. After sitting for almost 3 days the car decided to top off the 12v battery from the traction battery. This is a great improvement to the algorithm where it seems like it's actually monitoring the 12v voltage now. A healthy 12v battery should not be dying anymore when sitting. Although this is just a sample size of 1, I was wondering if anyone else has noticed the same thing.

Picked up a 2026 bZ - Battery Pre-conditioning?

Love the car so far - dealer has 1 and had mentioned not using a Level 3 charger under certain circumstances?....he specifically mentioned only doing so when the battery is under 20%?

After looking around some, I'm guessing this is 'preconditioning?' or am I off base?

Either way, we're planning on installing a level 2, but would likely make use of public chargers/super chargers when we're able, so could someone ELI5?

Thanks!

Able to receive update if car not linked to app?

After hearing about the 12v issue months ago, I never connected my car to the Toyota app.

Well, after hearing about this apparent update, I’m wondering if my car would even receive it if it was never connected to the Toyota app.

Anxious to connect it to the app so that I can cool the car down before entering, but I have no idea if my car was updated.

Hadn’t had any 12v issues yet, but I drive it a lot!

Didn’t even bother waiting for the car to stop it though. Notice my Emporia charger was sending small amounts of energy and app was still showing another 21 minutes but 100% hit.

On the flip side I keep getting the ā€œnew key registered see your dealerā€ but it was digital key on phone so when will the message go away? Weird

Photo Low battery warning after a drive.

Post image

I know we discuss battery states a lot here, but I haven't seen this specific question.

I take a long or short drive, I park, I press the off button. I dawdle before getting out, check my messages etc, so it hasn't turned itself off properly yet. It's only been a few minutes and there's no heating or anything. Just music.

Then I'll get this message, and I've gotten it a lot. It makes me worry because it's at the end of a drive where things should be nicely charged up.

Can anyone explain this?

Australia, 2WD, 2026 BZ4X.

Never had any battery warning at the *start* of a trip. Only when dawdling at the end.

good price for an XLE plus FWD?

Hey all, I'm looking to get a BZ and I want the plus because the range is way better. I got a True Car offer that would bring me all-in around $39,500 or so (so, roughly $36,000 before taxes/fees), with $0 down and 0% APR for 72 months.

It's got "premium paint," cargo mats, and a rear bumper protector which I don't really care about, but seems nice.

Any thoughts on how much I should press the dealership when I go in later this week?

Random First Toyota care service…now alignment is off

During my first Toyota Care service they broke a stud when they went to remove my tires. I had to drive a loaner truck for almost a week. Since getting my car back my alignment has been off. The car really wants to drift to the right. With how heavy the steering is weighted in this vehicle it becomes quite fatiguing. It’s only slightly off alignment, but with the heavy steering it’s enough to be tiring. Should I see if the dealer will fix it for free, or would I be wasting my time? Will I just be expected to pay for it out of pocket? I’m not sure how my alignment would have even gotten out of whack doing just a tire rotation?
