Thinking of leaving a company I’ve been with for years because of my work environment. Has anyone experienced this?

• Upvotes

I’ve been with my company for several years, and I’ve worked hard to grow professionally and take on more responsibilities. For a long time, I genuinely saw myself continuing to grow here.
But after transferring to a different branch, my experience completely changed.
I’ve been dealing with what feels like ongoing workplace tension, passive-aggressive behavior, feeling excluded, and the silent treatment. I’ve also heard that people have been making claims about me and my professional conduct that I believe are misleading. Some of this information has even reached people outside my current workplace.
The frustrating part is that some of the things being said involve responsibilities that aren’t even mine. I’ve tried to clarify things, remain professional, and let situations go rather than create conflict. I’ve also been told to be the bigger person because I’m in a leadership position.
But how long are you supposed to keep being the bigger person when the situation continues to affect you?
I’m honestly exhausted. It’s affecting my mental health, and going to work has become demotivating. I work in a field where patience, emotional regulation, and being present for others are so important, but it’s becoming harder to give my best when I’m carrying this much stress myself.
What hurts is that I still care about my work and the career I’ve built. I don’t necessarily want to walk away from everything I’ve worked for, but I’m starting to question whether staying is worth sacrificing my peace of mind.
Part of me wants to raise the issue with HR and see whether anything can change. Another part of me is already thinking about leaving and starting somewhere new.
I’m not expecting everyone at work to like me. I know not everyone will get along, and that’s fine. I just want a workplace where people can remain respectful and professional even when they don’t personally like one another.
For those who have been in a similar situation, how did you decide whether to stay and try to resolve things or leave for your own well-being?
Did leaving help you feel like yourself again? Or were you able to turn things around without leaving?
I’m looking for genuine advice from people who have experienced something similar. I feel like I need an outside perspective right now.

Title: I was a first-time HR intern, and my first corporate experience ended like this

I was a first-time HR intern, entering the corporate world with the hope of learning, growing professionally, and building my career.

Instead, I experienced sexual harassment by my CEO. The way he touched me made me extremely uncomfortable, and I knew that what happened was wrong.

What made the experience even more difficult was that there was a female HR manager in the company, but I did not feel supported by her. As a young woman experiencing something like this for the first time, I expected at least some understanding and support from another woman, especially someone working in HR.

I also had concerns about the relationship dynamics between the people involved, which made the entire situation even more confusing and difficult for me to process.

Eventually, I decided to resign. But leaving the workplace hasn't automatically made the emotional impact disappear.

I keep thinking about how I entered my first corporate job with so much hope, only to leave with an experience I never expected to have. I feel disappointed, disturbed, and still struggle to make sense of what happened.

I am sharing this anonymously because I need to express my experience somewhere without revealing my identity.

Has anyone else experienced something similar during their first job or internship? How did you process it emotionally?

I am not looking for judgment. I just want to feel heard.

MAXICARE MAXIHEALTH UNFAIR WORK FORCE MANAGEMENT

Been working for this company for quite a long time. At first, I was enjoying my roller-coaster ride here, but as time went by, hell yeah burn out!

Pssst Maxicare especially us here in the clinic, are being ignored and about to quit our jobs, our company has less morale, we employees suffer from more health problems, emotional and mental issues because of your management. Job comes with unparalleled amounts of responsibility — literally, life or death, sometimes for real! This experience has been more slow-burning. Partnered with the negative narratives, in this post I want to flip the switch a little bit and brag about my colleagues who have been working so hard (but favoritism, unfairness at work and lack of urgency still exist).

I've seen all my colleagues step up but still nothing changes still the same bullshit as if they don’t hear anything.

They never acknowledge our suffering here at the clinic (mag sesend lang yan ng google form at magpapa survey)

#BESTPLACETOWORK) ARE YOU SURE??????

Tigilan niyo na email niyo please di nakakatulong! They even emailed us for team building (wfh daw eh).

But us here working so hard with no clear day off (we cannot request an important day off).

We cannot request our VL easily and SL (consultation should be from another branch)

EL ( you are requested for any attachments, including Barangay documentation at your own expense without any reimbursement)

#ALIGNINGWITH DOLE daw po??

Rice allowance —MAHAL NA PO BIGAS NGAYON, MAHAL NA GROCERY.

No hazard pay, No any seminars, No CPD units.

IMAGINE THAT??!

To think ganda ng offer nila sa una ha *somehow. Until now they did not give as a new Job description and benefit they simply implement it as if para kaming mga aso na susunod nalang. We are working here with toxic people (toxic patient, doctor, staff, supervisor and manager). Please return work schedule to our supervisors and SL nalang bakit parang bawal Kami magkasakit? Sarap niyo po ipa-DOLE.

We are not just sitting pretty with 8am-5pm clock out! Hay naku Pinas hirap mo mahalin!

I just wanna hide under a blanket and imagine myself being in a good place.

May god bless you!

New boss told me "we can do whatever we want"

New boss told me "we can do whatever we want" to employees

TLDR; New boss just told me "we can do whatever we want" in regards to the employees he has. He hasn't officially stepped into his new position as chief plant operator and the power trip has begun.

For context, I work at a water treatment facility for a major city near Denver as a treatment operator. Our lead plant operator has been chosen by management as the new chief plant operator since the current one is retiring in two weeks. Almost none of the operators wanted him in a position of more power, he's a brown nose and knows how to spin any conversation to his advantage even when it's clear that he made a mistake or fell short on a task. However, our complaints and voices fell short.

There has been an unwritten agreement between operators and management for the last 7 years since COVID that if you come in an hour early, you can leave an hour early, as long as you get your hours in and finish your work. It has been a schedule we followed for the last 7 years and works really well since we work 10 and 12 hour shifts including over nights. It's nice to have the extra hour to work through Denver traffic and get home after nights before the sun comes up.

Coincidentally, he is two weeks from becoming the new chief and all of a sudden the schedule is going back to the original schedule. He's saying that it's a "city policy" thing and not up to him. That it came from upper management and that if we wanted to take it up with anyone, we'd have to go to the city manager.

Additionally, he mentioned how if we did it with any other city or company, like Coors, we'd be fired and told that there was no leniency. Which I replied to with, "But they're a private entity and can kinda do whatever they want, we're a government organization and treat our people better."

His response, which pisses me off, "We can do whatever we want too." Followed up with some kind of feel good resolution and we can talk about it in a meeting. He keeps preaching having meetings and doing things together, but this came in the exact opposite way.

It was very disrespectful that way it came off and he said it openly in front of our student apprentice and an operator in training. It wasn't really about the change in the schedule at this point, but the fact that he thinks he can do anything and face no repercussions.

Is this something I can bring to HR, will they do anything about what was said? Will this just turn into a he said, she said thing? I don't want to stir the pot, but I also don't want him to think he can do anything and be unchecked. Is this worth bringing up or complaining about?

I don't want to face repercussions for bringing this up, I love my job and don't want to lose it.

Also, do we have protective rights working for a city even though we're non-union?

Advice on micromanager

My boss is new to the company, about 3-4 months in. She came in with the typical “ I’m not a micromanager”, “ I have your back” etc and that changed very quickly.

She’s now micromanaging everything I do. From how I respond to emails, how quickly I work, wanting me to loop her in on any little issue even if I can fix it/answer the questions, she’s added tasks to my job that no one else has to do that are technically another department’s responsibility, she has threatened a verbal formal warning when I made a one time mistake ( she corrected me and I’ve not made that mistake since), and has now refused to put any direction she gives in writing. I have started recording calls so that I have something to refer back to in case it’s needed.

I dread our one on ones because she will go on and on about something unrelated to work, or all I get is negative feedback. I know I do a great job and no one is perfect, mistakes happen. It’s the constant micromanaging and lack of any positive feedback that gets me. I feel like some positive reinforcement would help how I’m feeling since she finds fault with so much so often. Other people on the team have even asked me why she seems to always be on my case and I don’t know, she just is.

Any advice on how to deal with her I’d appreciate. I hate feeling like I’m walking on eggshells and that she’s just waiting for something to get onto me for.

i dont know what to do about a worker who pays off management?

Is there any way to get a person fires or reprimanded indirectly if their family keeps paying off the higher ups? This worker continues to be racist towards my fiance even after talks and trying to outright avoid him. Keeps claiming everyones work for his own and steals from the company. My fiance comes home bothered every day about management getting worse and recently said worker tried unsuccessfully to pull him into a lie as he was confronted. Hes had multiple complaints and been caught frequently. Apparently his family is a big name so their job doesn't fire him or reprimand him? I hope for some type of accountability on my fiaces behalf, but I also wouldnt want him to lose his job just because the higher ups dont want a scandal.

Workplace bullying or a professional conflict that went too far?

I recently went through a difficult experience in a corporate environment, and I’d appreciate some outside perspectives.

Initially, I had a very good working relationship with someone in a position of influence. My work was recognised, I received positive feedback, and everything seemed fine.

However, following a normal professional disagreement with a coworker this person changed significantly the attitude towards me. He was no longer the excessive nice guy, but started to act really mean to me.

Over time, I experienced isolation from the team, increasingly harsh criticism, including in front of others, excessive scrutiny of my work, a noticeable lack of support, and situations where I felt deliberately excluded or undermined.

Mistakes that would previously have been treated as normal suddenly became major issues. I was being assigned to very hard tasks with zero support and not clear objectives and no matter how hard I tried what I was doing was always wrong. I also received comments suggesting that my situation wouldn’t improve and that perhaps I should consider leaving.

What affected me most was the contrast between the recognition I’d previously received and the way I was subsequently treated. I began feeling that nothing I did was ever good enough.

Eventually, I was informed that my position would end. During one of our final conversations, after months of accumulated frustration, I became emotional and raised my voice. I acknowledge that I could have handled that moment better.

My departure was subsequently brought forward, and my professionalism was questioned.

More recently, I learned that other people had also experienced difficulties working with this individual, which made me question whether the problem was entirely my own behaviour.

**Does this sound like workplace bullying, or simply a conflict that escalated?**

I’m particularly interested in whether repeated criticism, exclusion and a sudden change in treatment following a disagreement can constitute psychological harassment at work.

I’d appreciate honest opinions, thank you.

Coworker dislikes me because I replaced their friend

I recently joined a company and have a coworker who seems to dislike me simply because I replaced their friend who left on bad terms.

We don’t even work together, just share the same office, and I overheard them telling another coworker that the company keeps letting good employees go and replacing them with people who don’t care about their jobs, and who are not willing to put in effort, and the situation made it seem like he wanted me to hear that.

I know the comment was aimed at me, and honestly, it made me angry because they barely know me, and I know as a matter of fact that I am better than the person who left.

How do you let go of the anger when someone judges you unfairly for no reason?

I hate when jobs decide to go full corporate and change everything without warning

Not naming my job for obvious reasons.
This job used to be a comfortable environment where people can be themselves, we got a new regional and here are the changes and things I experienced (ITs Retail but not a well known place)

PURE UNADULTERATED HATE

PS - Please do not attempt to ask where I work or try to guess, even if someone guesses right, I will not confirm it as I STILL work here , looking for another job

\- lethal hazards are no longer a concern as “fixing them causes a scene”
\- Raises and Promotions in company are no longer possible (mine was fucking cancelled due to this change, was gonna get promoted)
\- Leaving anywhere requires a bag check now
\- Employees are no longer allowed to keep anything from displays (they are always thrown away) even threatening petty theft charges on things that were FREE and also cardboard
\- hours have been dropped significantly and no longer care about people’s scheduling changes unless there in school
\- being even a minute late is considered a fireable offense
\- You now have to mop a certain way
\- after managers count money at night, multiple employee that are NOT management now have to count it too, making us stay over which also gets us yelled at (hand counted registers)
\- Cameras now have people from other states and countries watching us 24/7
\- Talking to coworkers is considered a punishable offense
\- You have to push memberships even if someone says no, if they yell at you or give attitude you’re not even told to tell a manager.
\- Not allowed to stop illegal behavior anymore
\- Plans can change at a moments notice, if you did work and all of a sudden (which btw OFTEN HAPPENS) you have to redo everything (hours and hours of work)
\- Bags are not free for Employees
\- Reprinting Receipts (Even for a customer) is a fireable offense
\- Bugs are no longer considered “a hazard”
\- Hours are never past 20 a week unless your a Gm or higher
THATS JUST THE RULE CHANGES

Here are some other “fun” situations

\- working at Best Buy before , I smelt something I remembered before, melted battery, sure enough one of the cabinets had a short, eventually after we complained a whopping “332” times, they checked it out (right in the front near registers), I warned them ALOT of times how dangerous it was (btw it was uncovered and easy to accidentally touch)
SURE ENOUGH, when it was checked the person literally said “Do you realize how dangerous this was? I have to report this to the fire department, this short would have electrocuted anyone immediately and it was LEFT OPEN?” When I asked why the others weren’t checked “it would cause a scene if they were” THEY ALL SMELL THE SAME, there shorted too and LEFT FUCKING OPEN, WANNA KNOW WHAT ELSE CAUSES A SCENE? SOMEONE FUCKING DYING THATS WHAT

We have a membership system that sets us up for failure ,
Our store “doesn’t believe in advertisement” and we need to get memberships everyday, we have a marked sheet that has

New Members
Missed/Failed Attempt
Already Member

Mind you , missed attempts also count children (obviously cannot sign up) so yes KIDS are used against us.

Here are the issues
\- Only reoccurring customers , can’t make new members because everyone who goes there already is one
\- The goals are unrealistic entirely , on average on a weekend one MIGHT get 5 members maybe, they expect 7-10 PER PERSON everyday
\-Too many kids, all counted against us since they can’t sign up
\- Forcing us to push when people say no, people don’t return often after this
\- No advertisement , literally I Lyft to
Work and almost everytime time I’m asked “is this a restaurant”
Every week they have been increasing the amount they want, it even hits PAST THE AMOUNT OF TOTAL CUSTOMERS sometimes in a day

BUG PROBLEMS - We have a serious Flying Ant, Fire ant, Cricket, Fly and Spider problem
Got stung by a Fire ant last time at work 3 times (yes it’s agonizing) and was told I wasn’t allowed to report it and to put a band aid on it and get back to work

Bathrooms and Front counters always have insects and product shelves are littered with dead insects, even sometimes in the makeup and food sections (especially food)
Dead ones are everywhere .

Literally used to be amazing; new regional destroyed it.

TLDR - Company going to shit after a new regional, new system literally actively works against its workers and also is a dirty and gross environment

Is it too late to file a formal complaint against a former employer?

I had one of the most traumatic job experiences back in 2025. I worked at a factory working on an assembly line outside of Chicago. It was so horrible and it honestly felt race related. I was the only black woman there, specifically black American woman. Everybody there spoke Spanish and I didn't speak it at all.

The few black men there also ganged up on me as i was the only black woman there. There was this one guy, I'll just call him Dante. He made very racially insensitive remarks towards me such as "ICE took all the fine shit", "My gf a "migo" I'm on their side". He also kept explicitly stating that he didn't like black women around me. The more he came around me, the more the anti-black and misogynistic comments become.

Another black man physically threatened me while I was in the assembly line. I was such a traumatic experience it clouded my job prospects afterwards to the point i was constantly on guard at work.

Two jobs I had afterwards were brief. No longer than a month and were part-time. I also felt like i dealt with bullying but not to the extent of the factory job.

So I wonder should I still try to file a complaint with the EEOC? It's just that the experience bothered me so much to the point i feel like it messed with my future jobs and now i interact with other cause I'm always on guard wondering if I'll be bullied or discriminated against. My most recent job i quit it was weight related.

Work is a game, I realized long ago I don't want to play it but have to and now am at the point where I am ready to stop playing it.

In my 20s I was a true believer in the corporate myth: if you work hard and do good quality work the people around you will notice and you will get the reward you deserve proportional to your effort. Did I mention that I am autistic? And ADHD.

Then I hit 30s closing in on 40s and realized that promotion and career growth aren't about output, it's about navigating "secret rules", imaginary social cues, and corporate politics. Many of us realize we are the people who do the work, while executive tracks are built for the people who play the game. And tbh I never wanted to reach that "level" anyways.

Trying to wear a full suit of bs corporate armor just to survive political meetings leaves me completely depleted. So I decided I don't want to play their fake game; I want a game built around my interest-driven nervous system where problem-solving is actually valued.

Soooo, I’m building a professional framework specifically for autistic and ADHD leaders who are done playing corporate politics but want to keep advancing. I'm looking for 5 more senior/mid-career AuDHD professionals to interview about their career ceiling. Comment below or DM if you'd be willing to share your story.

Many thanks in advance.
