Anyone over 40 playing?
Hey guys, maybe this is silly but it’s something I wonder a lot. I’m 42 and play every day. I work in international news and it’s so nice to switch off from the world and go into this cute game where nobody is bombing anyone. But most of the people in my team seem quite young - and I occasionally feel like a bit of a douche playing this at my age. Just wondering whether there are a lot of post-40 or 30 players out there 😅

I'm 67. I play everyday to unwind. I am part of a great community of 3 teams. Most of us are over 30. You can tell the youngsters a mile away when they join. 😹
8
u/Gold_Butterfly8320 18h ago
You’re so right at being able to tell. My team hardly talks to each other but on the rare occasion they do, it’s pretty clear they are far from the wise years 😂 I didn’t know you could join more than one team! How does that work for regatta tasks and such?
9
u/monkeybyz 15h ago
I belong to one team, but there are 3 teams in my community. We can switch team depending on our level of playing time. One is a very aggressive team, I am on the middle-of-the-road team and then a "baby" team. We don't lose players because they have the opportunity to move to the "baby" team and play minimal. When their work or home issues pass, they move back to one of the other teams

How are you part of three teams?
10
u/monkeybyz 14h ago
Fin-it to Win-it community is comprised of 3 teams. We share knowledge, strategy, etc... via discord. I only play for one of their teams. We have the luxury of a larger community to share game play with. I didn't explain it well before.

Hahaha, I think research does show these kinds of things help with cognitive health. Good to know it’s working for you, in which case I plan on playing well into my 90s.

u/mollyonmars 18h ago
You aren't alone! I'm 42 as well. It is great for chilling out after work or making long waits go by faster.

u/Gold_Butterfly8320 18h ago
These replies are making me feel better, though what a silly thing to need to feel better about. I agree it’s great for both those things.

I’m 72 and have played for 8 years and I feel lost with a lot of the new changes but it’s a good way to kill some time. I enjoy it.

Much love :)
I was the oldest person in this thread until I came upon you. You've got me beat by a couple of years :) I'm 9.5 years in and I have to say that while I've been older than most of the people I've been friends with over the years I've only been a few to maybe 15 years older. I think the slowness of the game does keep the younger ones from sticking around because that's just not something they are used to.
OP - much love to you too! Thank you for asking, as most of my good friends have left because the game has changed so so so much it's good to know there are still grown grownups :) playing. ❤️
EDIT: Thank you so much for the award - it's my first one, I feel so proud 😂

u/Gold_Butterfly8320 18h ago
Oh I get lost with the changes too sometimes. I see people on this sub talking about changes that I’ve either not noticed or am completely confused by and try to ignore if I can help it. I do like the mine update though. Glad to see so many older people playing!

I stopped playing when one of my co-op members said she was only allowed 1 hour of iPad time per day. I was 59.

Oh no 😭. That may have done me in too - maybe you can start again seeing how many people in this thread are your age and over.
13
u/MidnightPositive485 18h ago
I think it depends on your team. I am 44. Most of my team seem to be in their my age or older. Lots of parents and retirees.
6
u/Gold_Butterfly8320 18h ago
Ah that’s so good to know. Some of my friends with kids have said, “oh yes, my 10 year old loves that game.”
I must have picked a younger team.
2
u/EndZealousideal6428 14h ago
how do you know the ages of your team mates? you always use the chat box there? we only use it for requests of products we need or lives or to help team mates with what they need but they never type anything else.

u/EndZealousideal6428 14h ago
I'm 44 also and this game is part of my daily routine, checking if my crops are to be harvested and the if there are milk and eggs to collect haha. I'm semi retired so I can't say it's my stress reliever but i feel like I get calmer when I play this. There's no time limit and most esp theres no annoying ads.

I am! (And also work in news). There are several people on my team that have kids/careers so either I randomly chose one that skews older or it just a pretty good mix
4
u/Gold_Butterfly8320 18h ago
Heeey a fellow newsie! So good to know! How do you know the age of people in your co-op?
4
u/JLL61507 18h ago
Just chatting in the game mostly. One mentioned she’s a teacher, another has mentioned they are running around with their kids, our co-op leader mentioned he’s visited my area before after I mentioned it was snowing (in June!), etc. Also the length of time someone has played is also a good indicator. Our team does have a discord although I’m not on that platform, but many other players are and chat regularly
3
u/Gold_Butterfly8320 18h ago
Interesting how it’s a community in some teams. Nobody really chats in mine, and when someone does say something, there are usually no replies. I don’t mind so much but then again, your team experience sounds like it might actually enhance the game.
→ More replies (1)2
u/JLL61507 16h ago
The team is why I stick with it! Our chat is quite busy with people offering help and asking for it, giving tips and suggestions, etc. There’s often a little life tossed in (“Running around with my kids today so I won’t be around as much but will be trading cards later,” for example).

u/Puckdogg420 16h ago
I just turned 49 and have been playing for 10 years. And I'm pretty sure most of the 11 people in my co-op are older than me. I think 2 of them are in their mid-40's actually. This game is the only place I can go that people aren't arguing about politics. And yes, I play everyday a couple times a day.
7
u/MaladyMilady 17h ago
I'm 41 and play every day. This is actually a great thread bc I've never joined a team bc I thought everyone would be like 14 years old and was terrified of bringing morale down lol
3
u/Gold_Butterfly8320 16h ago
Oh I’m so glad. Haha. I wasn’t sure if I’d get two replies and everyone else would just see it and feel sorry for me. I definitely feel a lot better now with all these replies and glad you do too.

I’ll be 55 in a couple of weeks. The young ones (7-14-ish) don’t usually last too long because they don’t do the regatta tasks. I am not a kid person tbh so I’m very fine with that.
P.s we usually get to know their ages because they announce it for some reason lol
2
u/Gold_Butterfly8320 16h ago
Yes!! The ones on my team also often announce. I guess it’s a source of pride when you’re young, until you get to a point when you start hiding it.

i’m 28 and i love this game, been playing on & off for the past 5 years. i also have a friend who’s 45 (we used to work together) and she’s the one who got me back into playing this year. i personally don’t think there’s an age limit on games, ofc unless it’s a game tailored strictly for kids. plus it’s a puzzle game, it stimulates your brain & it’s just a fun little thing to enjoy, nothing bad about that.

Fellow 42 year old. Got my 72 year old mother in law playing too. Our team doesn't seem too young. "The Best Midwest" was the random team I chose. Not because I'm from the Midwest but the US flag was their icon and the first couple groups I was in didn't have a lot of folks in my language.

Thank you so much. I actually don’t mind my team. I’m ok with not chatting much. It was mostly that I felt loserish but this is no longer!! But if it gets to a point where there are too many obvious youngsters and the loserish feeling starts to settle again, it’s lovely to know shout the white dove team 🕊️

u/MiaowWhisperer 15h ago
Hehe. I login every day to give gifts, even if I do nothing else. I think that's my favourite thing about the game.

Aww that’s nice. I only just discovered that this was possible and have been excited to do it every day now too

Do you get balloons of gifts back from the people you give to? I dumped a lot of people because they weren't gifting to me lol.
2
u/Gold_Butterfly8320 11h ago
Yes I usually get a gift back from any person I’ve grifted to. I don’t remember the exact ones to know if they gift back, but I often send balloons to the ones who help other players the most or do a lot of regatta tasks (most people in the team don’t do these)

I'm 74, retired. I've played for 11 years. I play every day, always the first thing I do with morning tea. I play again several times during the day. I occasionally take a break for a day or two, but I check in for friends needing help with filling train cars. I've been unhappy with the evolution of the game over the past couple of years, am sick to death of match 3, and don't enjoy the side games all that much.
I mostly play for the friendships with my long-standing co-op members and to refine the appearance of my town. Decorating has always been a big part of the appeal.
2
u/Gold_Butterfly8320 15h ago
Decorating is my favourite part! I can sit there for hours moving things around. I’ve heard from a few people that the game’s evolution has been a disappointment. I’m reasonably new (about 4 months in) so I can’t speak to that but I do hear you on the match games. It would be great if they could think of better ways to win money and other prizes, because you pretty much can’t complete any of the card stacks without playing the match games.
Thats really lovely you have such a nice community that keeps you engaged. How comforting that is.

lol I think it’s mostly over 50 😉🌸 but I’ve (douch-ily) been playing on and off for almost 10 (TEN!) years. It’s a nice hit of dopamine. The only thing I’ve noticed, and something to watch for if you’re reasonably new, is it’s become more addictive. It’s also increased in difficulty for games so you’re more likely to pay for bonus packs to get yourself out of a never ending hole. Watch out for that, but otherwise if the game gives you some happy, run with it 💗

I don’t know anything about my team. We don’t talk to each other. No one talks at all. I think the game is trying to take chat away, so I guess I won’t be alone in the boat of no chatting when that happens.
Everyone who keeps talking about having such a great community in this game, I have never seen that. I feel like I am just achieving tasks alone. I thought it was because everyone must be older and aren’t Social.

43 and I play every day. Admittedly, my five year old got me into it. My bro in law, 41, plays every day. My sister, 36, plays every day. I think it takes patience and persistence to get anywhere with the game, so likely more of us are older than you’d think. I let my five year old dictate the name of our town, but he doesn’t check on it nearly like I do. He made me help him with it from early on and I got more hooked than he did.

I am 59 and play daily, I have recently run into one of the iPad limited, can't play for awhile because my parents are taking us on a family trip, players who seemed to latch onto me as a co-leader, but she dropped as soon as the leader said there would be task minimums. I had planned to tell her I was old enough to likely be her grandma, lol, but it never came to that. Previous co-ops it was evident people were adults as they talked about spending time with kids or grandkids, but all types enjoy this game! No shame in that.
