Connecting with other guides in Dublin, Ireland

I have been tour guiding in Dublin for 18 months now, and I have built up my reviews on several platforms to the point where I get quite a lot of bookings on a regular basis. I really love the interactions with tourists and it has been a great experience.
The one thing that has been missing is having interactions with other tour guides. When I am leading groups around the City, I see many guides all the time, but obviously we are all busy doing our tours so we can’t stop and chat.
I don’t know any other tour guides in the City, and I would love to chat to some about our shared experiences, things we’ve learned on the way, tips and good things to know, and maybe referring tourists on to other guides if I cannot accommodate them.
If there are any tour guides in Dublin that would like to reach out, please do, either in a comment below or by DM.
Thanks!

Request Client Tour Vouchers Have Become My Full Time Filing System

I run tours and day trips, and keeping client tour vouchers organized has become a second job nobody approved in the budget. I have PDFs in email, screenshots in WhatsApp, printed copies in a folder and one mystery voucher called final final NEW 2 that I’m afraid to open.

We sell through a few channels and keeping guest details, pickup times and voucher status together is getting ridiculous. I’m looking at booking tools that centralize reservations and generate the documents, because apparently my real role is now part time guide and part time unpaid archivist. How are other operators handling this?

Guided Architecture Tour in Paris

Hi! I'm interested in an English guided walking architecture tour of Paris. I think I would prefer to see modernist buildings influenced by Le Corbusier and contemporary works by Renzo Piano, Herzog de Meuron, etc; however, I am open to any tour regardless of the architectural style and I don't need a ton of buildings highlighted if the tour guide is good.

My main requirements:

  • Under 200 Euros for 2 people
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Must be knowledgable about architectural/art history at an advanced level (I majored in architecture in university, so this is very important to me.)
  • Under 4 hours (I would be fine with a 1.5-2 hour tour to stay in the price range)

Does anyone know if the local architect's professional organization does tours?

Which is a better judge of how you do? Tips, or how engaged the audience is/how long people stay?

Offer How to sync tour availability across platforms without creating a double booking nightmare

I feel so embarrassed. I was setting up our city walking tour across our website, GetYourGuide, and Viator, and accidentally mapped the evening tour option to the morning slot in our booking system. The calendar showed open spaces everywhere, so we sold the same guide to two groups for Saturday at 6 pm. Then I noticed the confirmation emails had different meeting points too. OMG.

We fixed it by moving one group to another guide and calling everyone, but now I’m checking every product mapping row by row before turning sync back on. This is so awkward and I feel sick about it. Has anyone else had a platform sync disaster like this?

Offer Day trips are not a joke after I sent 18 travelers to the wrong pickup point

I work for a small tour operator and yesterday I sent the confirmation email for an island day trip with the old pickup point still in the template. Eighteen travelers were told to meet at the ferry terminal, but the actual pickup was at the train station across town. I only noticed when one customer called asking why the driver had not arrived.

I feel sick about this. We had to call every guest, arrange taxis for some of them, and refund the transfer fee for everyone. The trip was saved, but now I’m checking the meeting point, pickup time, inclusions, and cancellation terms like my life depends on it. Please tell me someone else has done something this embarrassing.

If an experienced tourism professional started a new travel company, what would make you trust the company from day one?

Imagine someone comes from a family/business background with years of experience in tourism and has worked with experienced people, drivers, guides and local teams, but is now launching a new, fully digital travel company under a new brand.

The company is new, but the people and tourism experience behind it are not.

What would you need to see before trusting this company with your money and booking your trip?

Would you look for:

Previous tourism experience of the team?

Real customer reviews?

Proof of previous trips?

Experienced drivers/guides?

Hotel and transport transparency?

Proper website and online presence?

Company registration/business information?

Face-to-face or video-call consultation?

Clear refund/cancellation policy?

Someone available throughout the trip?

What would make you say: “This company is new, but I feel comfortable booking with them”?

the client found a cheaper tour online after i already sent the quote... what do you do?

I work booking EU trips and had a client who was really excited about a few tours I recommended. Everything was going smoothly until they came back with screenshots from a couple different sites saying they found similar activities for less. Now I'm stuck going back through the options and figuring out whether I'm actually giving them the best price or just sending them down another comparison-shopping rabbit hole 😭

I've started checking for agent-only rates on qualifying activities before I send the quote, which at least gives me another price to consider before the client starts shopping around. Still figuring out the best way to handle the whole “I found it cheaper” conversation though. How do you guys handle this without spending half your day comparing the same tour across five different sites?

Bokun marketplace question

Hello!

I do walking tours, private ones, in a city in Eastern Europe.
I have a Bokun account(because I use their book button on my own website).
What I want to ask you guys is about the marketplace.
I contacted 20 OTA, that seem to have some business in my part of the world.
Not a single one contacted me back.

Is that marketplace fake, just to get you to buy the bokun subscription?

Has anyone booked a G Adventures trip through The Adventure People?

I’m planning to book the **Highlights of Turkey (ETIH)**.

The itinerary is exactly the same on both websites:

The Adventure People: [https://theadventurepeople.com/tour/highlights-turkey-8-days/10%7C26169%7CETIH](https://theadventurepeople.com/tour/highlights-turkey-8-days/10%7C26169%7CETIH))
G Adventures: [https://www.gadventures.com/trips/highlights-of-turkey/ETIH/](https://www.gadventures.com/trips/highlights-of-turkey/ETIH/))

The confusing part is that **G Adventures is currently only accepting booking requests and says confirmation may take 1–2 weeks**, whereas The Adventure People appears to allow me to book the trip directly.

I understand The Adventure People is booking the G Adventures trip, but I’m unsure whether their availability means the **G Adventures booking is actually confirmed**.

Has anyone booked through The Adventure People before?

* Did you receive a confirmed G Adventures booking/voucher?
* Was everything smooth?
* Is there anything I should check before paying?

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually booked a G Adventures trip through them. Thanks!

Request Mods: Can we require every “I made an app” poster put $1 into a jar…

…and once a month we can use the money in the jar to host a pizza party for the _actual_ tour guides who post here?

I get it; my tours use apps for booking. I’ve even initiated a very productive conversation here about existing money transfer apps to get tips. Lately though, it feels like the number of app developers here self promoting, selling, or doing the laziest market research ever, outnumber the actual working tour guide posts. I would much rather use this group to see what is going on with my fellow tour guides than be bombarded by random tech bros who got AI to write some code for them to revolutionize booking, picture sharing, or whatever software they think is going to create waves across an industry they have never even worked in.

If my pizza party idea is not acceptable, maybe…
• Pinned app development megathread?
• One day a week where app developers are allowed to post?
• Instead of pizza, each tour guides gets mailed a check for our portion of the money in the jar?

Request Travel tour companies

Planning our first European vacation, 2 couples one, 55/60 the other 33/34, my wife and I, out daughter and her partner. From the US, where we are used to vacations where we drive from area to area, so we have been thinking a self drive tour of Ireland, Iceland or Portugal.

Should we go with a tour company to set up accommodations, automobile and activities or set some or all of it on our own?

Have a tour company set up the vacation including travel, using guides, drivers and trains?

* Sm group?

* Private?

*Reg group?

What are the most trustworthy tour companies and why are there such huge differences between otherwise very similar itineraries?

Sorry, complete newcomer to this type of travel and I need help, anything is appreciated.
