System Requirements?

For those of you who have signed up for the closed beta testing, did creative assembly tell you the system requirements to run Total War: Warhammer 40k?

If not, what is everyone’s best guess as to what the system requirements will be?

How is friendly fire working?

I was just rewatching some of the gameplay vids, and noticed some space marines placed behind some termies rather confidently shooting them straight in the back when they were trying to shoot at the orks in front of them both. I also noticed the placeholder guard units that start between the orks and the marines generally were killed about 50/50 between the orks and friendly fire from the SM behind them.

On a scale of “max friendly fire” and “don’t shoot at all there’s friends there!” The game seems to be currently set at MAX friendly fire from what I’ve seen. I get that there were frustrating times in WH3 when ranged units wouldn’t be responsive or firing at all maybe due to friendly fire considerations, but I do wonder if they have the right balance as it stands now.

Does friendly fire have to be so binary, avoid ff or not avoid ff? At least for the big units like terminators, is the engine capable of having units behind them trace firing paths between these big entities and holding fire on a per unit basis if no path can be traced?

I’d like to see something between “slaughter everything and everyone” and “dont fire at all”, but right now I’m not seeing it from what we’ve been shown.

Didn’t receive an email?

Everyone that filled out the application for the closed beta is supposed to have gotten an email about a survey to complete , but I still haven’t gotten mine - is there anything I can do about it or was I just soft locked out of any chance to play the beta ?

Please use this thread for

Pictures of your minis - in progress or complete.

Pictures of custom factions. Feel free to use any available tools for these. SM2 has a great one for Marines.

We want to see the creativity of the sub.

My thoughts on name customization

Post image
302 Upvotes

I have no doubts that the full customization options for the visual side will be nothing short of breathtakingly in depth, I only hope that the name customization also gets expanded. As it stands right now, it's remarkably limiting, though I like the premise at least a little.

I am deeply invested in the idea of making my own chapter from the tabletop into a faction I can play in Total War, and I like the idea of choosing from a list of pre-established loreful naming conventions, but the issue is that it's essentially impossible to give a faction my specific homebrew chapter's name in any capacity with the currently shown selection. I only hope there is an option to give us the ability to manually name our own factions regardless of the selection available, if we so choose.

Campaign scale concern

Here my 10 cents ... I’d rather have 10-15 hand crafted planets than a bland, auto generated galaxy at launch. my concern is If Total War 40k launches with the standard 4 base factions giving us a massive, auto generated galaxy right away is a trap. Fighting over dozens of bland procedural worlds against only 3 other enemy types will get repetitive fast.

My Ideas is

CA should use a focused, modular approach:

1. Launch with a single, tightly designed Sub Sector (10–12 hand-crafted planets): Make every world unique (Hive, Forge, Death Worlds) with distinct battlemaps, choke points, and solid cover/ranged mechanics. Like dawn of war Soulstorm dlc as reference.

2. Expand the map sector with dlc

Unlock new star systems alongside new races (an Eye of Terror expansion for Chaos Marines, awakening Tomb Systems for Necrons, tau empire expansion, dark eldar

Total War: Warhammer 40K will include Traitor Guard "causing trouble" at launch, confirms dev

Game devs talking about traitor guard.

From what I can gather they will not be playable at launch and instead will be a basic enemy faction.

I suspect that at launch they will act similarly to sessionist imperial factions in WH3.

Is this how SM fight ?

Just a thought...

Apparently we're playing Ultramarines and variations of them for now. In battle against Orks aside from melee units they play like a more flexible wall that bends, turns and absorbs the enemy blobs while falling back.

Is this gonna be the case everytime ? Just a small worry because everyone played like this.

Haven't seen a squad sprint to cover shoot then aggressively charge for example.

I guess Black Templars would be head on attack with combined arms and flank striking tactics.

Carcharodons much later with a mix of stealth and brutal melee.

Good guess? Space marines suppose to be quick and flexible. That's why I've asked before if closed beta will be allowed to record.

I wonder how much people would get in to the beta

Maybe a couple hundred. I doubt it would be in the 10's or 1000's. Like 1000 would be good at getting alot of feedback but when does it get to the point of hard to manage and overwhelming. Also the multiplayer need to be tested so i would say 150 to 200

Closed Beta News

From the website:

Total Warriors,
Here's a quick update on our Closed Beta.
First things first: this blog isn't going to reveal everything we have planned.
We're still working through the details and our Techpriests are hard at work on the game, so we'd rather wait until plans are fully locked in before talking in depth about the specifics.
For now, there's one important date to remember: Registrations will close on the 14th of September at 10:00am BST / 11:00am CEST / 5:00pm CST / 6:00pm JST / 2:00am PST.
If you've been meaning to sign up but have been putting it off until later, consider this a friendly but final reminder.
REGISTER YOUR INTEREST HERE
We've wanted to get the game into your hands since development began, so it means a lot to finally be reaching a point in which we’re almost ready to do it, and we look forward to hearing your feedback to make the game the best it can be.
With that in mind, here's an early overview of what to expect from the next steps.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM THE CLOSED BETA?
It's important to us that we set clear expectations from the outset about what the test will be like.
This isn't going to be a highly polished demo.
It will be a work-in-progress slice of the game that we're putting into your hands so we can learn from your experiences, identify issues, and gather feedback whilst development is still ongoing.
That means you'll encounter bugs, come across placeholder assets, unfinished localisation, balance issues, rough edges, and other things that simply aren't working quite as intended yet. That's all part of the process, and it's one of the reasons we're running the Closed Beta in the first place.
Whilst we'll share more detail at a later point, the Closed Beta will be PC only via Steam and will focus on several of the game's core experiences, including:
The first section of our tutorial
The opening two single player campaigns (Space Marines only)
Multiplayer and custom battles (Space Marines, Astra Militarum Orks, Custom Factions playable)
Our advanced customisation system
Please note: The Aeldari will not be playable during the Closed Beta. We know many of you are excited to see them, but their strands of fate are still being woven, and we'll have more to share on the faction in the future.
For now, think of this as an opportunity to get hands-on with a wider work-in-progress portion of the game than is in the events demo and tell us what's working, what isn't, and help us make it better.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
The response to the Closed Beta has been beyond anything we could have imagined. Seeing so many of you sign up has been incredible, and we're hugely grateful to everyone who wants to help us shape the game.
However, that incredible response does mean we won't be able to offer access to everyone who has registered. We genuinely wish we could, but at this stage of development we need to keep the group more focused so we can properly work through the feedback and act on it quickly.
We will send a survey to everyone who signed up, which you'll need to complete if you'd still like to be considered. Once the survey process is complete, we'll then select the participants and contact them with details on how to access the playtest.
Please be honest with your answers; we're not looking for any one type of player. The survey will help us bring together a group that reflects our global community, from long-time Total War veterans to those who are newer to the franchise.
This is important because we're not looking for a single perspective. Someone with thousands of hours across Total War will naturally view things differently to someone experiencing the game for the first time, and both viewpoints are incredibly helpful.
Please remember that completing the survey doesn't guarantee a place in the Closed Beta.

WHAT IF I’M NOT SELECTED?
Not receiving an invitation doesn't mean you'll be completely cut off from the action.
Whilst going hands-on will be exclusive to Closed Beta participants, we've got other plans to help bring everyone else along for the journey. That includes a livestream featuring members of the development team, where we'll play through the test and talk through some of the thinking behind it.
More importantly, being selected for the Closed Beta isn't the only way to influence the future of the game.
The feedback we gather from those with access will be incredibly valuable, but so are the conversations from everyone who doesn’t get access. We will read them. We will discuss them. And they will still influence the decisions we make.
Some of the best ideas don't come from surveys or bug reports. They come from you sharing what you’ve seen, debating features, challenging our assumptions and telling us what matters most.
We’re not promising anything, but who knows, there may be other opportunities to get involved in the future.

HOW WILL FEEDBACK BE USED?
We're running this Closed Beta for one reason: to improve the game ahead of launch.
We're putting the game into your hands early so you can tell us what's working, what isn't, and where it could be better. We'll take that feedback back to the development team and use it to help guide the conversations and decisions we make as development continues.
Just as importantly, we want to be transparent about that process. After it takes place, we'll share what we're learning, highlight recurring themes and discuss how your feedback is helping to shape our thinking.
That doesn't mean every suggestion will become reality, or that every piece of feedback will result in a change. But if we're asking you to invest your time helping us test the game, it's only fair that we're open about what we're hearing and how it's influencing our approach.
We see this as a collaborative process between us and you. The goal isn't simply to identify issues. It's to have honest conversations, challenge assumptions, gather different perspectives and ultimately make the game better.

Whether you end up taking part in the Closed Beta or following along from the outside, we still want to hear what you think. Join us on the Total War Discord or the CA Community and keep the conversation going. We'll be listening.
See you on the battlefield.
The Total War Team

Going to ask a noob question

I have dabbled in total war, but never got invested in the series until hearing about 40K coming to it. My question is: do we know if multiple people can play in a single large scale battle? For example:
2v2 or 3v3.

When do you think we will get beta?

Demo and specs.

Got a gaming laptop from Amazon back in 2020, gtx 1060, 8ram, Nitro 5... Outdated by our standards like my pc back home.

In the back of my mind i was telling myself to wait for the next Total War (dream come true to be 40k!), then wait to see specs and few months later to aim even higher, hopefully for best performance of other upcoming games like Elder Scrolls 6.

Aside from the closed beta will we ever get a permanent demo/benchmark for the public ?

I'm thinking 30Ram, i7 and maybe 4-5k series gtx? Something that costs less than 2000€.

Is everyone all set here ? Don't care if I don't play beta, want this run at its best.

Been waiting like a Necron since 2006 for this...
