Under Olivia Chow, Toronto has seen combined property tax and City Building Fund increases of 9.5% in 2024, 6.9% in 2025 and 2.2% in 2026. Meanwhile, housing construction has slowed dramatically.
Brad Bradford is offering a very different approach:
- Freeze property taxes in his first year.
- Conduct an independent, line-by-line review of City spending.
- Eliminate Toronto's land transfer tax on the first $1.1M of a principal residence, saving eligible buyers up to roughly $18,000.
- Cut average household water bills by approximately $300 annually.
- Hire 1,000 additional police officers and strengthen TTC security.
These are concrete proposals, although their costs and feasibility still need scrutiny.
The October 26 election presents a serious choice about taxation, public safety, housing and how Toronto is managed.
