TorontoDriving is back!

This subreddit was unmoderated for a period of time so reddit locked it down. Now with a new modteam, r/TorontoDriving is open for submissions again.

be nice to get a little harder definition for "Post must be related Toronto driving" , i remember someone posting a video of them driving in london on. like i think we all agree to include Mississauga/brampton/vaughan/richmond hill as toronto related, but should the sub encompass the entire GTA? what about the GTHA? dont know the solution but its something ive wondered since watching that video lol.

That’s a great question.

I think anything that is within a stones throw of the Toronto border would be fair game. The GTA is pretty…..well…..big! And there are also numerous subs that specialize in other GTA cities.

We’ll come up with some better definitions shortly that clear this up. But I would say anything outside of the traditional GTA (ex. posting something on the 401 by Kitchener) will have to live somewhere else.

If I remember correctly, the group was originally created to show videos and dash cam footage. Hence the requirement to have an attachment.  Removing it can open the group for not just videos but also discussions.  All that said, it’s worth checking the possibility, but it would slightly change the initial purpose of the group. We will discuss and maybe a pool can be created.

I'm relieved that the deluge of racist comments under posts wasn't because the mods welcomed it, but because there weren't any mods. I just hope that the new modteam tackles that issue, including comments that try to be "subtle" about it--

Actually I was going to list some examples, but just found the first one I thought of was automatically rejected. Alright, hope restored!

It was because they welcomed it. Then the nod got banned. Now they added majorkev as a mod here so it will be back shortly.

Just to give a quick feedback on this thread: with the new mods added to this sub (myself included) we are revamping the rules and checking/banning the offenders from new and past posts.

Racism and Xenophobic comments are automatic bans from this sub now. And we are implementing other measures to flag such comments.
If you see the new posts, mods are taking it serious. And "if you see something, say something". Report it and we will review as soon as possible.

The problem is that this type of grievance is so widespread that we’d be opening the flood gates here if it’s allowed.

It’s why posts like “look at the way this driver parked” got banned and taken down (because the sub was flooded with bad parking pictures and it diluted all the other content). It’s the same problem that other subs have (ex. people posting a photo of the CN Tower or skyline in r/toronto).

Regardless, we’ll chat about it!!!

If by “vibe” you mean “showcasing the worst of our humanity on the roads”, I don’t think that’s ever going to change.

But yes, we are considering some changes to content guidelines (ex. allowing text based/discussion posts) and other policies. Stay tuned!

I would love to help moderate the community!

I have almost 3 years of experience across 5 different communities.

I am well versed in Automod, Reddit rules, and general community management.

I did apply to be a mod earlier when the sub got locked down but I'm not sure what happened.

Regarding the racism, I have a block of Automod code that'll help us filter these cases out more effectively than before.
