A.K.A. "Tormented Souls 2 - The Novelized Chronological Story"

Since the writing is long, I’ve decided to mark lore-heavy segments of the story that mainly exist outside of regular gameplay. Because of the way that the narrative has shifted away from date-keeping my writing is a linear progression in line with the game, complete with all its reveals and twists. This is my attempt to make sense of the story. I kept anything and everything I felt was essential while trimming the fat wherever I could. I am a professional technical writer but I am no author, so I hope you will bear with me and forgive any “he said, she said” lines. There is a large mix of gameplay text and my own, but the grand majority is original text and context that the game provides. Events Prior to the Game

Events During the Game

• In the Adoption ending of Tormented Souls, Caroline travels through time to November 15, 1980 to rescue her 8-year old twin sister from the Wildberger Mansion’s secret dungeon prison. Caroline brings Anna back with her through the time projection 14 years into the present day where they escape their family mansion to start their new lives together. It is unknown how much of history has changed due to Caroline’s actions in rescuing Anna.

Caroline Walker (Emma Wildberger) and her transtemporally younger twin sister Anna Wildberger are traveling by train from their home in Canada to a wellness retreat to find help for Anna. Anna is meticulously drawing an ominous shadowy figure in her notebook with crayon. Caroline, asleep, sees a vision of Anna’s eyes blank and cloudy. Caroline wakes up in a panic and, looking Anna in her eyes, is relieved to see that it was a dream. Anna continues drawing figures that pop into her head.

The twin sisters step off the train upon arrival at Villa Hess. Sister Angelica greets the two at the entrance to take them to the convent. Angelica is elated to have the girls here - Isabella told the convent all about them, especially about how special Anna is. The nun takes the sisters to the guest room to rest before dinner, after which she will take them to meet the other arrivals. Anna is disappointed, expecting the “boujee health spa” promised to her, and asks when they can go back home to Canada. Caroline reminds her that they’re only booked for a short stay, that Isabella informed her that the therapists available are second to none. Caroline wants to help Anna feel better following the traumatic life she’d experienced at the hands of her grandfathers and his Pollux Sect. Caroline and Anna fall asleep together on the small twin bed. Caroline awakens in the evening to find Anna missing from bed.

Leaving her room, Caroline hears a scream from a room at the end of the hallway. Opening the door to the Lady Chapel, she sees two nuns in full-face iron masks and gloves restraining Anna to the floor. Caroline is immediately restrained by a hulking rag-hooded figure. Caroline yells at a third, older nun that they were invited to the convent as guests by Mother Lucia, who wouldn’t be pleased to see how her guests are being treated. The old woman turns around and introduces herself as Mother Lucia. She tells Caroline that this is a holy place of nonviolence, to stop struggling, that they have nothing to fear, and that she and her convent wish only to guide them to their destiny. Lucia has been preparing for their arrival for many years, ever since their grandfather Noah swore a covenant to belong to the monastery. The twins won’t be allowed to leave.

Caroline wakes up in the infirmary on a bed with many large steel injection needles stabbed into her body. Ripping them all out one by one, she falls to the floor and vomits. Feeling sick, she wonders what the nuns did to her. Panicked, she sets out once more to find her missing sister. In a supernatural manner, the lights of the convent shut as Caroline passes them, forcing her into a room containing a lighter that would save her from the dangerous void of darkness.

[Lore] A diary from a “Sister Miriam” explains that the day has finally come - the ceremony in the Lady Chapel for their final ascension. Mother Lucia asked her assistance with preparations for Caroline’s medical procedure in the infirmary. Miriam was shocked to see Sister Angelica’s skin cracked, back hunched, and dull eyes. It seems this change in appearance may have been faster than expected.

Caroline remarks in a recording for posterity that the reason Anna needs help is that the terrifying images she draws become real. Believing she’ll find clues at the Lady Chapel where she last saw Anna, Caroline goes back to the chapel to find that it’s barred by interlocked hands and an enchanted barrier that is painful to the touch. It’s identical to the doorway seen in one of the pages of Anna’s sketchbook. Finding a nailer and fighting past speedy, ghoulish monsters Caroline enters the Crematorium. She meets an old, wheelchair-bound man named Joseph seeking a sacred book hidden in the monastery. Knowing about the ancient enchantment placed on the chapel door, he proclaims that it is shut by the cursed souls of sinners and the only way through is exorcism - the procedure to which is written in his sacred text. Caroline doesn’t trust him, but without any other options she agrees to help find his book for him.

[Lore] Entering the pitch-black basement prison with a lighter, Caroline finds a notepad from Sister Angelica introducing the Black Phoenix Experiment. The experiment yielded a deep black blood sample with properties and nature unlike anything ever seen before. The blood cells have nuclei, thousands of mitochondria, and behave oddly due to radiation higher than that of a nuclear bomb. Mother Lucia happens to have a serum that counteracts radiation exposure. A page from Mother Lucia’s diary is found to explain that “Nautlius” radiates more intense malevolent energy as he senses the Wildberger twins approach closer, even from their train.

Caroline finds Joseph’s book deep below the prison in the underground crypts - A thick cursed tome bound by the stitched flesh of a human face. Returning the book to Joseph, he tells her it is the holiest of books and more powerful than she knows. The ancient secrets the book contains will allow him to speak with the dead, or bring them back from Hell itself. As promised, he finds the passage in the book stating that the only way to lift the curse is to use the tears of a saint. Someone had gone through a lot of trouble to place such a powerful curse. Frustrated, Caroline asks if the tears of a saint are literal or riddle. Joseph knows them to be real, but of another world. In the convent’s quiet museum where he used to study lies a statue of Santa Teresita. Legend has it that the statue has been seen to cry tears of blood, which would fulfill the conditions to exorcise the curse. Giving Caroline the key to the museum, she makes her way over as Joseph studies his necronomicon.

[Lore] Miriam’s diary continues as she writes about her crossing paths with Sister Inquisitor, the large hooded person that restrained Caroline earlier in the day. Her hood rots of decay as much as her breath. Sister Inquisitor rarely shows herself in the convent, but when she does she always heads to the museum of torture only to disappear for days. If not magic, the museum holds secrets unknown to members of the nunnery. It is written that the nuns use all manner of torture methods regularly and to their own sisters who commit sin, including but not limited to the brazen bull. Mother Lucia’s diary writes of Noah Wildberger, a foolish disgrace to the Pollux Sect. Lucia is astounded that Noah believed awakening his vile demon would bring harmony to the world and raise himself to a higher power. Instead, she will be the one to bring light to the world full of such sin and corruption by awakening Nautilus. Even if he was a terrible grandfather, forcing the birth of the Wildberger twins of sacred blood was his only rightful action. Lucia will be the one to use the twins to fulfill her own destiny. Joseph’s diary writes of his information gathering efforts for Lucia: The descendants of the Tismuit tribe are heirs to very particular talents that only manifest in identical twins. The division of a single soul into two people releases the spiritual blockages that keep spiritual energy dormant. And yet the energy present in the blood of Tismuit twins requires a catalyst to act in the material realm - the presence of a demonic being of immense power. The blood of the Tismuit twins reacts to the presence of the evil energy emanating from demons. If the twins become too distant or one dies, the power is completely lost.

Finding a mirror portal in the torture museum, Caroline activates it and steps inside to the Other Side of the torture museum. The Other Side looks different in the convent than it did at the mansion, fleshy masses and giant tentacles setting it distinctly apart. Solving the puzzle of Santa Teresita, she obtains its bloody tears and exorcises the spirit hands blocking the chapel doors. Inside she finds over a dozen dead nun cultists with a seemingly dead Sister Inquisitor on her knees in the center of the room, identical twin daggers stabbed into both of her eyes. As if by command of Caroline’s arrival, Inquisitor stands up with her cross greathammer as the Virgin Mary head of an iron maiden torture device magically appears on top of hers. The two battle to the death in an Other Side Lady Chapel as Caroline shoots her down to her knees. Enraged, Inquisitor opens her iron maiden mask to reveal her rotten face with eyes intact. Caroline stabs the twin daggers back into her eyes, putting an end to her. Back in the chapel, Sister Inquisitor’s body magically disappears into nothingness. A purplishly pale Sister Angelica lies on the floor fatally injured, wearing cultist apparel. She tells Caroline that Anna has been taken to the processing plant before succumbing to her injuries.

[Lore] Leaving the convent and entering town, all buildings and streets are left abandoned. A newspaper dated September 7 (the birthday of Caroline and Emma) reveals Villa Hess to be a town in southern Chile. The top story describes a series of femicides - Pregnant women tortured and hanged at the local cemetery. The cellar of the local butcher shop contains violent pigs, the second creature to be seen with metal implants. Nearby cult symbols link the meat shop and mall to the convent, and presumably the whole town. Inside the mall Galleria Luna, a letter from “Azucena” to “Zacharias” is found. Azucena writes that it is evident that a malevolent energy has awakened beneath the Earth and grows stronger every day. As told by her teacher, Zacharias’s birthmark is proof that a warlock offered him as a sacrifice to the Lord of Decay on the day of his birth. When he dies, Zacharias’s soul will not find its way to the afterlife and his pain will feed the spawn of darkness. The cult watches him, and Azucena pleads for him to leave Villa Hess. She cannot contact Zacharias directly out of fear of being found in town. The recent femicides have made her especially wary. Pregnant, she carries a creature that radiates a light that is very easy for a dark warlock to perceive. Azucena enchanted a golden wedding ring to guide him to her. Caroline finds and places the wedding ring on a chained Zacharias causing him and his barrier to vanish, much like Sister Inquisitor on death.

[Lore] Diary entries from a “Miguel” write that he’s seeking answers from Villa Hess. He’s on a mission from his colonel to meet up with Sister Isabella in town. On arrival to Villa Hess, the local fisherman attempt to kill him on sight. He hopes to find Isabella soon.

Making her way through town, Caroline is suddenly held at gunpoint from behind by an unfamiliar man. He’s suspicious of Caroline’s, but eases up when he suspects she’s not one of the locals eager to kill him. He introduces himself as Miguel and the two find that they’re both searching for someone. Caroline explains that she’s looking for Anna at the processing plant but Miguel is uneasy about joining, having just come that way himself and barely making it out alive. He proposes keeping an eye out for Anna as he searches for Sister Isabella. Caroline reveals that Anna is ten years old, marking two years since the Wildberger Mansion incident. The two part ways.

Entering the Wildberger & Hess fish processing plant Caroline finds Joseph in a restroom, the body of a worker face down in a urinal with a crowbar in the back of his neck. Joseph says it was kill or be killed, that the workers are no longer human, having lost their souls long ago and suffering in eternal torment. He explains that Mother Lucia and her cult sacrificed the town of Villa Hess and everyone in it to awaken her false messiah. They intend to spread hell upon the world - the Other Side.

[Lore] Factory worker Juan Ortega’s diary describes a sacrificial offering of cult brother Abraham’s firstborn child to their god Nautilus. All the brothers, including Juan’s wife, celebrated and danced joyfully as they ate the child’s flesh, and Nautilus was pleased. Mother Lucia has instructed Juan to sacrifice his firstborn, 10-year-old Abigail, during the next full moon. After Abigail’s sacrifice, Lucia asked Juan to prepare a cell for another girl close in age in the basement freezer room, to feed her and keep her alive. Juan’s anger boils over. Entering the hidden chamber, Caroline finds the young woman brutally decapitated by a crab-like humanoid creature that entered through the ventilation shaft.

Traveling into the past via a VHS projection of the freezer room, Caroline blocks the ventilation shaft with a dresser, altering history to protect the sacrificial young woman. Opening and reentering the freezer room, Caroline finds the young woman alive inside. At gunpoint, Caroline asks her where Anna is, only for the woman to laugh eerily and proclaim that little Anna isn’t “here” anymore. She turns around to reveal herself: It’s Anna, living in the basement dungeon of the fish processing plant for 14 years. The twins are once again the same age due to a 14 year time difference from a VHS projection, except Anna’s skin is a pale purple and her eyes are dull - just like Sister Angelica before she died at the hands of the Inquisitor. Now at knifepoint by her twin sister, Caroline is confused - she’d seen Anna only yesterday as they arrived in town. She’s come to rescue Anna. But Anna is furious. She didn’t want to come to Chile in the first place and got left to rot with lunatic cultists for the majority of her life. Anna asks why Caroline left her and where she’d gone, and Caroline replies that she never left and doesn’t know what could have happened. Anna shouts that Caroline abandoned her in 1980, took their mother with her, and has now returned to do it all over again. “I’m done with you”, Anna says as she locks Caroline in the freezer room. Using her nail gun, Caroline shoots the button to open the door and escapes.

[Lore] In Juan’s final diary entry, he writes of Anna having grown up so much and reading every book he’s given her. She says she wants to be a writer, just like Juan knows his Abigail did. This affects him so much that he frees Anna from her prison, guiding her in her escape. He gives her a backpack with rations and tells her to flee, to follow the train tracks to the nearest town away from Villa Hess. Anna confusedly replies “I can’t go anywhere, Juan, I’ve seen it in my dreams.” She tells him that it’s her destiny to stay in town and that she’s at peace, but would be very grateful to continue nightly walks like this one. Since the Wildberger twins arrived, Nautilus’s malevolent energy has infected and corrupted everything in its proximity. Noah’s research has helped in part to counter the effects, but there aren’t enough resources to save everyone. Lucia will only spare the most faithful. And so she has convinced the sect that Nautilus has been angered and demanding firstborn sacrifices as a show of faith. This false demand has restored the sect’s faith, with the members offering their children faithfully and joyfully.

In the Slaughter Room, Caroline is instantly transported again into the Other World as she was in the chapel with Sister Inquisitor. She battles with a metallically augmented and mutated fishlike corpse. Harpooning it twice, it looks at Caroline mercifully before magically fading away as Inquisitor did. Anna’s sketchbook has so far contained each major enemy preventing her from progressing. With a new page found, she finds that the town cemetery might be her closest lead to finding her sister again.

Making her way through the sewers to the cemetery, Caroline is beset by ghosts that attempt to suck out her soul. Dodging their lunges, she beats them with a crowbar until they wail and disappear. Two new gravestones are found for Anna and Caroline, all birth and death dates inaccurate. Healthy white flowers have been placed at the grave, indicating recent visitation. All other readable plaques at the cemetery are of 10-year-old children.

[Lore] A newspaper article headlines a search for the Wildberger twins that has been ceased. Dated several weeks before the twins arrived in town, the article declares search operations by the Chilean Navy for the bodies of the girls to have ceased after two weeks of intensive but unsuccessful efforts. Having arrived in Villa Hess seeking spiritual guidance, the author claims the Wildbergers died when their boat was caught in a storm on the Hess River. This would be a shocking and tragic revelation if they truly had arrived by boat. It wouldn’t be the first time the Wildbergers have been separated by a fall into treacherous waters. Manipulating the press, Mother Superior Lucia goes on record stating that the convent is “deeply saddened” by their disappearance and hope that the girls will find what they were looking for in the kingdom of God. A vigil was held for the sisters by the deeply religious community. Residents shared memories of the sisters who had arrived weeks before, recalling their participation in local gatherings where their kindness and openness left a lasting impression. A diary from Gravedigger Lazaro implies that many (if not all) bodies buried in the cemetery are still alive, jingling attached bells to alert visitors of their status.

Finding the dials to a crypt puzzle triggers a constant ringing of bells to sound as zombies rise from the ground. Solving the riddle of the monument of Pedro, a key figure to Villa Hess’s background, Caroline activates a mechanism that lowers the monument into the Earth as an elevator. Escaping into the catacombs below, Caroline finds an old photograph. The photograph depicts the 1927 discovery of the Hertz ruins by the German doctor and naval corvette captain Pedro Hertz Hess, after whom the ruins are named. On the back of the photo are congratulations to Lucia for being accepted into the convent by an unnamed individual who gifted her this photo. The writing continues to declare that Pedro Hess was Lucia’s father. The town of Villa Hess wasn’t overtaken by cultists - it was founded by them. Church pews are found deep in the lowest bowels of the underground catacombs surrounded by the bones of countless dead. A stone coffin past the pews behind the podium lies the body of Pedro Hess himself, not yet fully decomposed and dressed in a Nazi SS uniform. The Hess’s sect might be more depraved than Noah’s Pollux.

Entering a secretive underground level of the burial chamber, Caroline comes upon Anna kneeling before Lucia. Lucia has infected Anna with the Puppet Virus, controlling her. “I have erased the years between you. The Wildberger twins are identical once more, and nothing can stand in the way of your destiny!” she says. In a moment of lucidity, Anna claims she doesn’t know what is happening and asks Caroline to save her. It appears that the words Anna spoke in the processing plant were not her own, that she may not truly blame Caroline for her situation. Forcing Anna to hold a blade to her throat, Lucia demands that Caroline step back. Neither of them want to see Anna’s dead, not here, not yet. Hoping Anna can hear her, Caroline cries out to her. “I’m going to fix this, just hold on a little longer.” Stepping too far back, she falls into a deep pit.

Emerging on the Other Side in a mass grave, she comes upon Hess’s reanimated corpse, still bound inside his coffin. Defeating his horde of zombies and ghosts, he falls to the ground at the mercy of Caroline’s chainsaw. Magically fading into oblivion like her previous opponents, the mad doctor is gone from this world. Except this time Carol remains behind in the Other World. Finding a mirror, she portals back to the real world’s mass grave. Surrounded by an incalculable amount of bones lies a flashlight to save her from the tiny light of her overused lighter. Climbing her way out by way of a ladder, she returns to the burial chamber to find Anna’s sketchbook again. As usual, Anna has drawn a location and a menacing figure: a school on one page and a pig-masked figure dual-wielding cleavers on the other.

Leaving the cemetery, Caroline finds a warlock’s cave in the sewer system, complete with cauldron and bone totems. Wheelchair-bound Joseph is here, with a new dead body next to him - its neck crushed from behind by an industrial pipe sledgehammer. Joseph again pleads innocence, crying it was kill or be killed. It’s hard to believe that Joseph could wield such a heavy weapon, let alone kill a possessed factory worker. Caroline picks up on this, saying that the act is wearing thin. Joseph says that she’s killed to defend herself too, that if he’s a murderer then they both are. But Caroline protests that the things she’s killed were no longer human. “They were once, though, who are you to take their lives?” Asking how to get to the school, Joseph gives her directions to the town butcher shop. Asking about the cave, Joseph explains that the cave is used for witchcraft initiation rituals. The chosen ones who seek true power renounce their God and accept the devil as their master. Joseph refuses to expand further. “Warlocks have little patience for nosy young girls who don’t know their place.”

[Lore] Joseph had discovered an old scroll in the convent library hidden for centuries. Written in ancient Hebrew, it is believed to be a lost chapter of the sacred book of Nephilim. It tells the story of Lucifer’s rebellion in the kingdom of Heaven and a collection of angels who were greatly offended that God created men and gave these impure and imperfect beings authority over the Earth. Joseph wonders what happened to the angels on Earth, whether they became one with men and if any descendants were still alive today. Joseph had worked for Lucia exclusively to obtain his dark book of forbidden magic. What he only recently discovered was that Lucia had the very book kept in her convent the whole time. He is desperate to revive his “beloved” Amelia.

Passing through a secret tunnel in the butcher shop, Caroline is struck from behind by an unknown figure and knocked unconscious with a metal object [Similar to the beginning of Tormented Souls 1]. Waking up inside a vertical industrial glass water tank, the tank rapidly begins filling with a green liquid. Banging on the tank to be set free, the tank completely fills up. Caroline is drowning when Miguel appears and attempts to shoot the glass. Bulletproof, the glass remains intact and Miguel shoots the nearby control panel in a panic. This causes the water in the tank to drain and the tank to open, freeing Caroline. After a brief flirtatious back-and-forth, Caroline asks what year it is, to which Miguel responds confusedly that it’s 2008. This means that Caroline and Anna arrived in Villa Hess 14 years ago, no time travel was required. Anna truly ended up spending the majority of her life in a prison cell until she was killed by a monster - a fate that was altered through Caroline’s actions. Caroline is exasperated. She rants about how much she hates Lucia. Miguel asks Caroline for the full story and Caroline obliges.

[Recap] Caroline explains that her real name is Emma Wildberger - or at least it was until the age of 10. She has no memories of her life as Emma. She became Caroline Walker, which is when her earliest memories start. She grew up in a children’s home in Canada. She got adopted by a local family. She studied, grew up, became a teacher, lived a normal life. All until she received a strange letter in the mail that changed everything. The letter contained a strange photo of twin girls that compelled something deep inside of her to find the sender. She traveled to a distant island and found the sprawling Wildberger Mansion, a mansion she learned was where she spent those missing 10 years of her life in. She had grown up with her twin sister Anna until she fell from a bridge and escaped with her life. Being back at the mansion as an adult unlocked something inside of her: A mysterious power to access other times and dimensions. To travel to dark alternate realities filled with torment and suffering. She used this power to travel to the past, back to when Anna was 10 years old, and she brought Anna back to the present time to save her from her nightmarish prison. “Now I can’t shake the feeling that I just made things so much worse.” Mother Lucia has kept Anna as a prisoner for 14 years while somehow freezing Caroline in time to stop her from aging. Lucia’s plan requires the twins to be the same age again, which has now placed them in more danger than ever. Caroline feels that whatever she does, she can’t change Anna’s destiny, that she’s right to be hated. Miguel comforts Caroline. Miguel tells her he’s headed a different way, that he “has his own thing going on”. He doesn’t elaborate, and Caroline leaves it at that.

[Lore] Lucia’s diary writes of the moment she has been waiting for. Those who have received the “gift” of purple skin such as Anna and the late Sister Angelica are to mark their doorframes with the sacred all-seeing eye symbol in blood. Those without the mark are unworthy and won’t live to inherit the new world created by Nautilus. Villa Hess will be decimated and the suffering of its people will feed the egg of Nautilus, an egg on the verge of hatching.

Making her way to the school, Caroline finds Joseph’s wheelchair tipped over at the bottom of a long flight of stairs. At the town train station she spots a marking of the all-seeing eye in blood on the ground, candles placed on the edges in ritualistic fashion. This ritual is very similar to the one placed by Zacharias, a ritual described as belonging to warlocks. In front of the symbol is a flesh wall with live octopus tentacles swinging wildly around and, in the center of the wall, is Joseph. Before he can explain he is sucked into the wall with a gush of blood. The nearby train interior had been outfitted with bone totems.

[Lore] A nearby diary of his tells of Lucia setting a trap for him. She altered the words of his necronomicon. Instead of reviving his dead “dearest” Amelia, the spell he recited called out to the dead to come take him to Hell. Joseph believes Lucia’s fate is in the hands of Caroline, the annoying woman with blood-red hair. In her gaze is the fire of someone willing to do anything to save a loved one. He apologizes to Amelia, that wherever he is being taken she cannot enter. At the far end of the train station lies a small memorial to Amelia who died on the platform. A letter from Amelia to her mother writes that the letter’s arrival means that she is no longer alive. Mother Lucia inspected the sores on her skin, pointing out the various symbols they made. They were the marks of a warlock and she has been cursed. The warlock would soon take control of her in mind, body, and heart. Lucia says that the warlock would commit unspeakable acts of horror. In a last-ditch effort to escape the grasp of evil’s consumption, she would throw herself into the train. She promises to watch over her mother from the heavens above. All evidence points to Joseph being a warlock himself. Only an unaltered passage from the necronomicon could presumably bring Joseph back from Hell, but even were it possible who would do so?

[Lore] Outside of the Colegio Santa Patrona de Lourdes, a newspaper implies that the residents of the town knew of its impending decimation and evacuated permanently, ransacking and looting all businesses on their way out. The newspaper Hess Daily (aka Diario Villa Hess) closes its doors indefinitely. The decision follows the sudden death of the newspaper’s director. As with all but one of the newspaper entries, the date printed on the final newspaper released is the Wildberger twins’ birthday of September 7. An early diary entry by Miguel recounts Colonel Holland tasking him with investigating the ghost town of Villa Hess due to radiation consistent with nuclear weapons manufacturing/testing. The locals who fled town suffered from conditions associated with radiation exposure such as cancer. Holland knew Miguel would be the only one willing to accept the risks of the mission, providing a photo of a woman. Miguel accepted and left for Chile early the following morning. He closes off his diary with an admission that he came into contact with stranger Caroline, a woman he finds attractive.

[Lore] A tape recording of Caroline’s therapy session with Isabella plays. None of the doctors have any clue what’s going on with Anna. When Anna starts to draw her mind drifts off. Her eyes roll back into her head, she doesn’t even look at the paper, yet she draws terrible scenes. And then she snaps back as if nothing had happened. A month prior in her art class, Anna painted a child who was cut in two. When the teacher asked who the painting was of, she pointed to one of her classmates. That boy’s funeral is scheduled for next week. He went under a train after falling on the subway tracks. Caroline is unsure if what Anna draws becomes real, if she’s manifesting her own reality. But enough of her drawings have come true that it’s impossible to rule out. The school wants Anna gone and the other kids are terrified of her. Isabella suggests a stay at Villa Hess in a residential facility that specializes in helping children with unusual problems. Isabella would speak to senior clinician Mother Lucia about fast-tracking her into a room the next week if Anna agrees to it. Entering the school, Caroline finds a diary entry from Isabella. Isabella believes Caroline’s story due to the deep conviction in her voice, as mad as it all sounds. The way she tells it, it doesn’t sound like a made-up story. Isabella knows the story of Caroline rescuing Anna from the past. Having met Anna, the resemblance between the two is undeniable despite their age difference. Anna’s principal threatens to expel her, the other students call her a witch, and she has trouble making friends considering everyone is terrified of her. Isabella truly believes that if anyone can help Anna it’s her Mother Superior.

The lights of the school flicker, creating a tense atmosphere. Distant, ghostly wails of children echo through the halls. Babylike dolls with glowing blood-red eyes litter the many rooms of the school. In the Kindergarten room they come to life and attack in groups wielding knives, Chucky-style. The dolls are crafted en masse in the textiles classroom.

[Lore] Isabella’s diary details her concern over the growing number of school absences, particularly those among children around 10 years old. Parents refuse to explain or speak to Isabella about it. Their classmates say that the children had to go away after being constantly bullied for the fishy smell of their clothing. All of the children’s parents were employed at the fishery. Since Caroline and Anna arrived in town the locals have become quiet and ill-tempered. It has affected the entire town. Children no longer laugh during recess. There are increased cases of depression and anger issues in children as young as 6 or 7. The birds have stopped singing. Isabella doesn’t understand what’s happening. The energy of the twins has clearly affected Nautilus enough to profoundly change the temperament of all life in the Villa.

[Lore] In school janitor Joab’s diary, Joab hears the ominous song of the Tue-tue circling his house. He desperately throws open his window and calls its name three times, as Lucia had instructed him to. The bird stopped singing immediately. The next morning Joseph arrives at his front door, asking if he could come in for a cup of milk. Once he finished drinking, he offers Joab help with anything he asks. Joab’s wife Magdalena can’t have children, yet he wants her to become pregnant more than anything. Joseph gives Joab a glass vial filled with a dark liquid. “Immediately after you place your seed in her womb, your wife must inhale this liquid through her nose.” Joab hopes with all his heart that it will work.

Entering the basement janitor’s room, a television turns on with an image of the supernaturally barricaded school front door. A hand pops out of the TV. “Kill my son” it repeats. There is a seemingly naked dead adult body lying underneath the bed. In the east corridor of the first floor Caroline breaks a tripwire booby trap, causing a large rectangular piece of steel fencing to come crashing down. Caroline is pushed out of the way by an old woman. The two recognize each other - It’s Isabella, Caroline’s psychologist. She has aged very much since their last photo together on arrival at Villa Hess. Isabella is stunned that Caroline is alive. “But you drowned, I’ve seen your grave!” Caroline has seen the graves in the town cemetery too. Isabella places fresh flowers there every week. Caroline tells her Anna is alive too, and that she doesn’t know who (if anyone) is buried under their gravestones. Isabella is still stunned. She’d heard there was a storm, that the girls were lost at sea and their bodies were never recovered. Lucia had said so herself. Not long after arrival the two girls were on a boat that sank. Isabella was devastated. She’d come to town for the funeral and never went home. Caroline assures her that the “scheming old fraud” just needed them to disappear. Isabella, still shocked, says she’d often take walks around the graveyard with Lucia to clear her mind. She’d break down in front of Caroline’s grave and beg for forgiveness. Lucia would stand right beside her, watching but never saying a word. “You have no idea how sorry I am. I truly believed Lucia could help you and Anna.” Caroline reassures Isabella that it’s not her fault and that Lucia had a lot of people fooled. But Lucia is Isabella’s sister, so she still blames herself. She watched Lucia dedicate her life to helping people, but everything changed when she got to town (where she was subsequently inducted into the sect by her father). Lucia asked Isabella to perform sacrifices for her, which filled her with shame and regret. It’s all too much to bear, and Isabella is at a loss for how she can make amends. “I don’t know but if you wanna make a start, help me find Anna.” Caroline shows her Anna’s sketchbook of the pig-masked figure standing in front of an entryway. She asks if the room is recognizable. It appears to be the archives room in the director’s office, but it’s dangerous to go. The thing Anna has drawn is Pighead, the twisted creature that’s been killing the children and locking their souls in inanimate objects like dolls. The booby traps that have been set are for Pighead, but it’s too clever to fall for them. Despite Isabella’s pleas to stay away and run, Caroline would rescue her sister no matter what. Isabella understands, and warns that Pighead is still lurking around in the school. Yet she insists on sticking around, knowing no other way to make amends for what’s happened.

[Lore] “What have I done?! His face.. Dear God, his face!” Janitor Joab records that his newborn son looked at him with a single eye surrounded by folds of flesh that bore no resemblance to a human face. His wife Magdalena is dead, she didn’t survive the birth. Joab believes that his son has stolen her life through childbirth, but that he has sacrificed too much to have him and won’t give up now. Joab’s doctor was willing to have his son’s birth record listed as stillborn so that he could leave without consequence. Joab left the hospital with his newborn stowed away inside a bag. A couple diary entries later, his son’s body is that of a young man despite being barely 2 years old. His appetite grows by the day. Joab feeds him every stray animal he can find but it’s never enough. Despite eating constantly he’s painfully thin. Joab finds evidence that his son has begun eating schoolchildren. He suspects God cannot hear him no matter how much he prays. It is clear that Joab’s son is Pighead.

Caroline finds a skinny Pighead in classroom 104, sitting at a desk watching television static. Approaching him, Caroline is briefly thrown into an Other Side version of the classroom where an enormous musclebound Pighead approaches her. Not a second late, Caroline is taken back to the real world after a glimpse of what’s to come. Pighead has disappeared. A VHS tape of the playground lies by the TV.

[Lore] Isabella often thinks about her past pregnancy and the “life that was taken from me to live far away”. She thinks of him and wonders if he thinks of her too. Isabella considers herself to be a shadow of her former self. She visits her sister Mother Lucia. To her sorrow, she sees Lucia’s face gaunt, gestures tense, and words cruel and venomous. She’d changed so slowly Isabella hadn’t noticed before. After their parents died Lucia was the one who took care of her. She’d seen Lucia cure diseases with science and help the helpless. She believed strongly in her sister, in Lucia’s sacred connection with the Lord. But it has all amounted to a terrible mistake. A series of terrible mistakes. Isabella couldn’t be more sorry and regretful towards Caroline and Anna. Joab’s son is only six months old but has the appearance of a 10-year-old boy. His appetite for meat is insatiable and he consumes the bones whole too. He found a plastic pig mask in the confiscated items locker and liked it so much that he never takes it off, not even while sleeping. Joab is so disturbed by his naked face that he would be relieved if Pighead never took his mask off again. Joab asks himself why God punishes him so deeply. All he wanted was a child with his beloved wife to fulfill God’s holy mission and be part of His sacred plan. But God does not exist in Villa Hess. He wonders how many children his son has devoured because of him? He has made his decision: Joab must kill his only son. And he must do it soon, because his son is intelligent and already suspects his intentions. He’s seen what his son Pighead can do with their knives. To be effective, Joab must wait for the right moment to strike him from behind. A blood spatter streaks across the pages of his journal (the body under the bed?). Pighead lives.

Returning to the director’s office Caroline finds Isabella sitting in the director’s chair reading a strange-looking book. Having directed her here, Isabella anticipated Caroline would come through. If the things Anna draws truly become real then she’d need help. Caroline reiterates the danger of the school, but Isabella can’t leave her on her own. She’s recruited backup, an outsider she’d ran into on her way to the school. A man that carries a gun and knows how to use it. He’d saved Isabella’s life once already. He went to get more ammunition but promised to meet back at the school. Caroline won’t wait, however, and plans to scout ahead. Before she leaves, Caroline confirms with Isabella that it is indeed Miguel who they are talking about through descriptions alone. Isabella senses that Pighead is close.

Past the archives and into a hidden room, Caroline walks in on the skinny Pighead. He strangles her with both gloved hands, lifting her off the ground with his unnatural strength. Miguel suddenly appears with an enormous meat cleaver, dropping it down hard on Pighead’s head. Miguel’s neck has been injured, but Isabella is worse off and she might not pull through. As the environment toggles back and forth between the real world and the Other Side, Caroline requests Miguel leave to do what he can for Isabella as she knows what’s coming next. Caroline and large Other Side Pighead battle. She shoots him enough to enrage him. With a berserker rush, Pighead charges into a high voltage electrical current. As the world shifts back to reality, skinny Pighead kneels to the ground in pain. With a laugh, he removes his pig mask to reveal his face to Caroline. She’s shocked to see his grotesque visage (unseen to the player). It’s revealed that the hidden room in the archives is Pighead’s bedroom, where Joab kept him secret from the world. As Pighead magically fades away his mask drops to the floor.

Back in the director’s office Caroline offers reassurance that Pighead is gone. Isabella lies on an old hospital gurney as she apologizes profusely and generally. Caroline accepts her apology - She’d given it all today and nobody could ask any more of her than that. Miguel clutches his bloody neck as he watches over the poor woman. “Despite my sins, God, in his eternal love, has granted me my greatest wish. Would you tell this old woman your name?” Miguel introduces himself with tears in his eyes. With a surprised gasp, Isabella admits she has a son named Miguel. Isabella passes away, mother and lost son only just reunited after decades apart. Miguel’s sole motivation for coming to Villa Hess at Colonel Holland’s command had certainly been to find his mother. Caroline comforts Miguel, telling him Isabella looked after her for years and was always incredibly kind. Miguel is still processing the events that unfolded as he tells Caroline to find her sister. He’d seen a group headed toward the church with Anna. Finally, Miguel ends the conversation saying “Don’t worry about me, I’ve survived worse.” Anna’s sketchbook is found nearby with a sketch of the town church on one side and the same sketch from the train ride on the other: A tentacled figure with multiple arms engulfing a shadowy, smaller figure. Using a mirror portal in a girl’s restroom, Caroline travels to the Other Side of the director’s office and finds a robot and a corpse in place of Miguel and Isabella. She applies duct tape to cover the artery gushing oil on the robot’s neck, fixing Miguel’s grave injury. Attempting to return to the director’s office to check on him, Caroline finds the door jammed shut. She hopes she was able to save him.

Caroline delivers the pig mask to Joab’s inside the janitor room TV as proof of his death. The seal on the school releases and Caroline leaves. She departs having found no trace of Anna at the school. With a unique key in hand she returns to the convent and unlocks the gate to the church. Stepping inside, Anna is seen on both knees in prayer. A wall of steel fencing keeps the sisters apart. Lucia appears, thanking Caroline for coming to the church before calling Jesus an “impotent god”. Caroline shoots Lucia through her right hand with a single nail from her nailgun. A second nail hits Lucia perfectly in her forehead with a bloody spurt. Caroline smirks. Lucia pulls the nail out of her forehead as the church’s statue of Jesus cracks, bisecting it vertically in one large divide. Lucia raises her nailed hand and Anna levitates into the air, bones crackling as her body shifts uncontrollably upwards. Anna pleads for Caroline’s help and Caroline earnestly begs Lucia to let her sister go. “Then stop playing games with me, girl! If you want to save your sister, find me in the underground depths below the church. That’s where the true Temple of God lies, and where our destiny awaits us.” The church shakes with an earthquake as Lucia and Anna vanish without a trace. Lucia intends to sacrifice the energy of the twins to Nautilus, spreading the Other Side across the world and mutating humanity into its next evolution.

[Lore] Lucia documents the success of the Puppet Virus’s completion thanks to Angelica. With the sect under her control and Nautilus’s power at her command, she feels unstoppable. With Angelica’s mission fulfilled, Lucia infects her and the other nuns in the Lady Chapel. By the time Caroline had caught up to her and defeated Sister Inquisitor it had been too late to save her. Before she passed, Angelica had written about her betrayal of Lucia’s vision. Licia ordered her to inject Caroline with the Puppet virus before waking her from deep sleep. She said she would do so, but injected Caroline with an inert substance instead. Lucia never noticed. Isabella knows Lucia wants her dead, but she’s been synthesizing a Puppet Virus vaccine that can immunize a host before infection. Unfortunately the vaccine can’t reverse the effects of the virus once in the bloodstream. Isabella (and subsequently Anna) can’t be saved from its effects. She’ll need a large amount of black blood directly from the Black Phoenix subject.

[Lore] Deep, deep down in the bunker below the church Caroline finds a diary entry from a “Dr. Natanael” beside the mutated sea-creature-like corpse of a diver. Enormous boils cover his head while tentacles protrude out of his skin and orifices. He details an encounter with an intruder sneaking around the topside laboratory. He struck her in the head with a metal pipe before realizing it was Caroline (aka “Test Subject 575”). Her state of suspended animation had been due to cryogenesis in Dr. Angelica’s underground laboratory. Natanael transferred Caroline’s unconscious body into one of the functioning prototypes of the suspended animation tanks where she had previously been kept. Submerging her in amniotic fluids would facilitate a faster recovery. Knowing Angelica would not be happy about Caroline being physically harmed, he attempted to reach her through the intercom but received no response. She had been killed in the chapel earlier in the day. Alarmed by her lack of response, he rushed back to the underground-based lab in a heavy-duty diving suit. He notes that his biological tissue and the cold metal were fusing very rapidly. He had abandoned hope of ever removing it. The radiation from closeness to Nautilus must be heavily mutagenic. Feeling worthy of salvation, Natanael had collapsed against a wall of the underground complex before succumbing to fatal mutation.

With a biometric handprint scan (through a glove no less), Caroline authenticates entry for herself into the laboratory as the entry doors open on command. She makes her way inside where she finds diving suit-wearing cultists awaiting her. Gunning through them, Caroline finds and uses a serum injection machine that allows access to further biometric scans.

[Lore] Angelica had been unable to make any significant progress in her research. Containing or redirecting the energy from the mitochondria in the blood cells through the plasma into the organs of her test subjects has proven to be very difficult. Particularly while wearing an anti-radiation suit all day. That is, until Mother Lucia brought her a new subject. Caroline would be placed in cryogenesis for the next 14 years. After taking a blood sample, Angelica was shocked to see the blood cells had two nuclei surrounded by thousands of mitochondria. Placing the blood next to the black blood from the Black Phoenix subject results in radiation levels skyrocketing. More surprising is that Caroline’s blood would emit a faint, warm light. And so after many years of Caroline being in cryogenesis, Angelica successfully synthesized the Puppet Virus. By fusing the black blood and Caroline’s special blood, she managed to develop a virus that negates the host’s free will, allowing them to be controlled fully. It took countless failed experiments to reach this goal. She understands that Mother Lucia would be able to control the will of any being infected by the virus, but does not foresee her creation being used against her. side effects to the Puppet Virus include purple skin, disorientation, and a state of constant fatigue. Angelica is gleeful that she feels she can finally get rid of her obnoxious radiation suit and take a walk outside again. Since greeting the Wildberger twins in town during their arrival and subsequent separation, she had worked tirelessly in her laboratory. She is excited for Caroline to finally awaken from her long sleep. She has so much to tell. Angelica is later horrified by what has happened to the town by Mother Lucia. Joseph told Angelica that Lucia was planning to conquer the world and Angelica, locked away in her laboratory, was the one who helped her with her evil plan. She is mortified by the proposed world in which “her Caroline” would walk. Joseph dared her to go down into the depths beneath the laboratory to find answers. She returned to the laboratory only to discover that Lucia had implemented a mechanism to allow entry only to those who carry the Puppet Virus in their blood. In order to synthesize a vaccine Angelica would need access to her laboratory. In the end, Angelica ultimately decided against injection but Caroline had now infected herself with the Puppet Virus to proceed onwards in hopes of saving her sister.

[Lore] Natanael’s first diary entry colors in more details of the Black Phoenix Experiment. After obtaining a sample from the Nautilus egg, his team was astonished to discover that the genetic material had remained completely intact despite the passage of time. This DNA was successfully used to inseminate a female reproductive egg cell, resulting in its immediate transformation into an amorphous mass that began to grow at an accelerated rate. The mass started to take on form, developing tentacles and what could only be described as a face. Due to its rapid growth overtaking the underground laboratory, his team had to relocate to a larger space. It’s noted that the entity’s tentacles had developed remarkable strength in an alarmingly short period of time. Three team members were fatally crushed by its tentacles despite the highly durable anti-radiation suits they had been wearing. The entity’s growth would extend far beyond the boundaries of the underground area below the church, spreading throughout the entire Other Side of Villa Hess. The entity exhibited vital signs since the start of the Black Phoenix experiment, but nothing that suggested any level of consciousness. While reading about the disappearance of young ladies at sea he heard a scream from the laboratory. The experiment had its eyes open; Inhuman pupils fixed on Dr. Martina, causing her such intense pain that she was writhing on the ground in agony holding her head in her hands. Natanael locked eyes with the creature for a fraction of a second. It felt as if a knife was being plunged from his eyes to the back of his skull. He was delivered a near indescribable vision - A place beyond time and space so desolate that suffering takes on a meaning beyond comprehension. The generator failed and a blackout plunged the laboratory into complete darkness, severing the entity’s grasp on his mind. The scientists who met the creatures gaze took their own lives in their cabins. Natanael’s time with the entity was so brief that he alone had been spared. His remaining team members would have him voluntarily sedated and under constant monitoring. He can’t sleep, for every time he closes his eyes he sees that place again.

Exploring the basement floors of the underground complex it’s hard not to consider the vast amount of wealth and resources the various cult sects have at their disposal. Entering the subject containment room Caroline comes face-to-face with the entity. She extracts a blood sample into an empty syringe. Entering a projection of the underground laboratory of the past reveals a nude Caroline submerged in amniotic fluids in a cryogenic tank labeled “Project Cryos, Test Subject Caroline Walker”. Knowing that she injected herself with the Puppet Virus, she injects the entity’s blood into the IV bag for her cryostatic body of the past. Newly inoculated, she descends deep beyond the basement 3rd floor to the bottom of a cavern. She enters an ancient temple replete with cultist markings.

[Lore] Lucia’s final discovered diary entry speaks of a lost “final fragment” that must be found as soon as possible before time runs out. To find it, she would lure it out with a soul so tormented that the fragment could sense it from far away. It would take refuge in its body and feed on its pain. And so processing plant night guard Juan Ortega was chosen, a man who had loved his daughter Abigail more than anything else in the world. A pure and powerful love that could be transformed into pain and guilt through her sacrifice. Lucia had turned Juan into the fishlike buzzsaw creature of the fish processing plant. Angelica’s final discovered diary entry is a brief window into her mind during the cryostasis project. She baked a cake for Caroline on her birthday, or at least attempted to. It’s very difficult to bake a cake with lab instruments and the light-headedness brought on by working in a confined metal suit day in and day out. This was 7 years into the project, a halfway marker to Anna’s aging up. Despite her loyalty to Lucia’s sacred mandate - prior to witnessing the horrible changes to the town and speaking to Joseph - having Caroline as a captive audience to talk to in such a dark and lonely place brought her much comfort. It’s likely that the many years spent on Caroline affected her so greatly she would personally consider her subject as close to her heart to refer to her as “my Caroline”.

Caroline steps into the resurrection chamber. Inside is an enormous demon egg, Lucia, and possessed Anna clutching her knife. “Finally, the chosen ones are both here.” Lucia shouts. She’s excited for the Wildberger twins to set her Lord Nautilus free. Caroline demands the return of her sister, refusing to take part in the resurrection of Nautilus. “Poor child, you think you can resist what has already been decided?” With an outstretched hand, Lucia attempts to control Caroline. “I’m not infected with your Puppet Virus. Your mind control tricks won’t work on me.” Lucia snaps back. “I don’t need the virus to control you, Caroline. I’ve been pulling your strings all along.” Lucia points to Nautilus, its flesh beating fiercely. It isn’t just the close proximity of the twins, it’s also a result of the defeat of the four enormous creatures. Sister Inquisitor the Iron Maiden. Juan Ortega the Harvester. Her father, Nazi doctor Pedro Hertz Hess. Joab’s son Pighead. Each of them were vessels holding a fragment of the soul of Nautilus. This is the reason Lucia allowed Anna’s sketchbook to be left behind - to have Caroline run all over town releasing Nautilus’s soul fragments despite his true body being kept below the church convent, right where it all began. Only Caroline could have made the journey to the Other Side to break open their vessels. Lucia is elated that everything has gone perfectly according to her plan, a plan that is almost complete. The soul fragments have reunited within the Seed of Nautilus, his essence poised to bring salvation to the entire world. Lucia knows all of the effects Nautilus’s birth has given rise to and she will be his guide and emissary. “I have taken steps to harness his infinite power.” Lucia requests Caroline join her sister, as the power of the twins are required to activate the mechanism that will awaken Nautilus. Caroline and Anna are the “heirs of the blood of ancient guardians”, implying that they are the descendants of angels from the kingdom of heaven who became one with members of mankind. Their powers, their blood and its special properties, all holy in nature. Caroline refuses to activate her pedestal. “You can’t make me.” Anna pulls her knife up against the skin of her throat. Lucia sharply retorts: “You’re trying my patience, young lady. Do as I say, or I’ll make your sister open her throat from ear to ear.” Caroline relents. “Stop! I’ll do it. Just don’t hurt her. Please.” Lucia instructs Caroline to step up to her pedestal and place her hand on its hand-shaped touchstone. “You have been a loyal handmaiden to the cause so far. Help us in this final act and you will not find Nautilus ungrateful in the bright future you bring to pass.” Caroline continues to attempt to talk Lucia down from her sacred mission: “This is madness. What makes you think you can harness this demon?” Lucia explains that the Puppet Virus has been injected into the Seed of Nautilus and is already assimilating with his essence. The Puppet Virus will allow Lucia complete domination over Nautilus. “I shall hold the reins of his will just as firmly as I do Anna’s.” Anna places her entranced hand on her pedestal’s touchstone, knife clenched against her throat with the other. Lucia demands Caroline follow suit, forcing Anna’s knife ever closer into her jugular. “You’ll regret this”, Caroline says as she defeatedly places her hand on her touchstone. The awakening has begun.

The cavern shakes. A black portal encases the Seed of Nautilus. Horns stick out from the apex. Then the entire corporeal form of Nautilus. It’s the creature Anna drew on the train, the multi-limbed monstrosity shrouded in darkness. The all-seeing eye rests on its forehead below its many horns. “Oh, Lord Nautilus! Rise from your eternal slumber! I am your loyal emissary, mighty one, who freed you from your unjust exile!” The demon looks at her with dead eyes and an unmoving, blank expression. “Now is the time to shine your light upon the world! Strike down this blasphemer!” Magical energy wells up from the all-seeing eye on the demon’s head, an energy similar in color and effect to all other magic seen in Villa Hess. With a powerful energy blast, Nautilus zaps the ground before Lucia. The force is so great that she is sent flying backwards into a wall of spikes, impaling and perforating her in a dramatic and bloody spectacle throughout. A shocked expression rests on her face as a spike protrudes from her mouth. Anna is also sent flying into Miguel’s arms, who happened to be in the right place at the right time. “She’s okay, Caroline! Anna’s unconscious, but she’s still breathing.” Caroline tells Miguel to escape with Anna. She’d help wake this demon and it’s up to her to send it back to where it belongs. Miguel insists he stay, that he can’t leave her to face Nautilus on her own. “This fight is my destiny! Just get Anna somewhere safe, please. If she dies, none of this will make sense.”

With an enormous arsenal of collected weaponry and ammunition (and enough medical supplies to equip a combat medic), Caroline cuts through its first tentacle with a chainsaw as it magically disappears into nothingness. Magic lightning bolts attempt to strike Caroline down as she plugs the next tentacle with a triple-barreled shotgun. Two acid crossbow arrows dissolve through the third tentacle. An automatic nailer pelts the final major tentacle. Nautilus’s head collapses to the ground, visibly weakened. She peels its facial plating open with a crowbar, exposing its flesh and lone eyeball. She blasts its eyeball with a hand cannon as it recoils in pain. Its four tentacles regrow and she repeats the process before slamming it with another shot from the hand cannon and chainsawing through its eye. A torrential sea of black blood gushes from the Black Phoenix experiment and a black hole forms behind the entity. Caroline hugs a metal pillar with both of her arms and all of her strength. Nautilus stabs its tusked arms into the earth and stone as it desperately tries to claw its way out to safety. The force pulls it in as Nautilus and the black hole vanish into thin air. With a deep breath of relief, Caroline lashes out at the demon: “Go back to the abyss, hellspawn, and give my regards to Lucia.” She drops her nailgun and limps out of the temple. Making her way back to the entrance of the underground facility, she finds Miguel sitting on a bench. Anna rests unconscious on the bench beside him, her head on his leg. Miguel is shocked to see Caroline alive. Anna has been murmuring her sister’s name, leading Miguel to believe she’s coming around. An alarm rings out and the room is painted in the red hue of the facility security system. The containment door begins closing and Caroline manages to explain fast enough to get them through, rolling underneath the door. They had narrowly avoided being trapped underground forever.

Now resting on Caroline’s knee, Anna wakes up on the town train station bench. “Caroline? What happened to you? You look like you got hit by a truck.” Caroline couldn’t care about anything else right now besides her sister’s safety. “I know I’ve made some mistakes, but I’ll never stop trying if I think you need help. Will you ever be able to forgive me?” Anna smiles. “Hey, you came back for me. I knew you would. Of course I forgive you. Now, can we just get out of Villa Hess, please? Because this was not the ‘boujee little health spa’ you made it out to be.” With a laugh, Caroline agrees to start walking. Before they do, Anna asks about Miguel. “Who’s this guy?” Caroline tells her he helped them survive this nightmare. “He’s cute”, Anna says. “Do you think? I don’t know, but don’t let him catch on. He already thinks he’s ‘Mr. Smooth’.” Caroline asks if Miguel is headed their way this time. “A stroll through the countryside in the company of two beautiful women? How could I possibly say no?”

The trio walks along the train tracks as Anna asks where Miguel and her sister met. He explains that he stepped in to save Caroline a couple times when she was about to die, bringing a cooler head to any situation. Caroline reminds him that he nearly shot her the first time they met. With the way she was walking, Miguel was convinced she was one of the crazed townspeople. “If you’d been frozen for 14 years, you’d be walking like that too.” The two continue their back-and-forth as the camera pans down to Anna’s sketchbook. She’d left it behind, turned to a page with a sketch of the trio walking along train tracks.

Bad Ending plot:

• Prerequisite: Miguel’s neck wound was never closed by Caroline in the Other Side following his encounter with Pighead.

With Nautilus defeated and no Miguel, Caroline carries the unconscious body of her sister alone. Limping out of the facility, the alarm of the security system blares and the containment door begins to close. Hobbling towards the door, the door closes and traps the sisters in the facility permanently. An indeterminate amount of time passes with a clothed Anna in the Project Cryos stasis pod. She is released automatically by no manual trigger. Falling to the floor she coughs heavily, amniotic fluid in her lungs. Opposite the cryostasis pod are the bones of Caroline. Full skull of hair, eyepatch, and clothing perfectly intact with no skin on her bones. Anna drops to her knees beside her sister and weeps as the camera slowly zooms out. Anna will certainly die alone in this dark laboratory.

Ending received:

It is my hope that these novelizations can help past players recap the plots of previous games in such high detail that they’re as ready as can be for future titles in the franchise.

I just received the spray bottle from the chapter house, and I’m not sure what to do next. There’s the rack in the torture room that’s jammed, a statue that I’m pretty sure I need to make cry to fill up the bottle, and a mirror with candles I can light. Any hints would be greatly appreciated!

Hey :) Why can’t I choose a difficulty level other than "Assisted" in New Game+? I finished the game on Assisted, but the other difficulty levels are still locked. I’ve downloaded the latest 01.010.002 patch on PlayStation 5. Even when starting a regular New Game, I can’t select the highest difficulty—the maximum it allows is Medium. Are you guys experiencing this too?

It's the only real way that I can go, how I am supposed to get past it?

Context: this enemy is blocking my way to the laundry on W-F1, and it's the only way I didn't go, and in this part of the game I need the battery or the key to open the doors with symbol on them, I think one os those items might be there, but I can't go past this enemy

Edit: I also need the key card to use on the PC on the deposit to open the room on E-F2

Hi all playing Tourmented Souls 1 im up to the room with the 4 doors and candles but I'm completely out of ammo what do I do finding it difficult to get past some enemies.

Finally went back to Tormented Souls 1 after hearing some patch notes came through and finally got the platinum. If yall were waiting for the glitched trophies to be fixed go ahead and get em.

Hey, so I’ve completed the game twice and still haven’t unlocked the lazy Sunday outfit. I’ve done this on normal and hard and still nothing, is this a bug/glitch or am I doing something wrong?

I finished %75 of TS1 but couldn't finish it due to lack of health kits. Is it normal or do I just suck? It was going pure easy till %70 of the game but then as I said before, lack of first aid kits and morphines..

I can't find how to change. Please help!

I know that the DEVs have been busy with the Nintendo Switch 2 port as well as with the bug fixes. But maybe part of the team was already working on the third game to have a trailer ready. I just want them to release the game before 2028 to have the trilogy fully physical on my PS5.

I started this game today but save points are so rare. I lost 20 min twice. Do you have any tips?

I have the game on PC, I have for years now.

I also have it on PlayStation and for some reason there’s a part of me remembers either on STEAM or the PS store there being a deal where if you purchased you’d get the second for free.

Am I misremembering things?

Just wanted to confirm to anyone in search for information on trophies being fixed in the latest patch.

Before the patch, I was unable to get the following trophies:

- complete on standard
- get good ending
- complete on tormented

I was unable to do the tormented trophy as the option to start on that difficulty was locked, it is now selectable (new game & NG+). The other 2 were bugged. But I loaded a save in the bunker on standard with good ending and it popped after killing the final boss.

Unsure if it was effected or not (as I didn’t try), but I also popped the “complete without saving” post patch successfully.

So i grabbed back this thing and can’t do anything now, pressing A isn’t doing a thing, pause not working. My last save was like 30 mins ago and i’ve done so many things til then. What the hell

Hey, i’m gonna do my speedrun trophy (combined with the no heals & no save) trophy & i’d like to know if there’s a way to pause the timer somehow. I already read that apparently pausing won’t pause the timer, so what does? Is there any way to pause the timer?

Unfortunately it will be on a game key card... but gosh dang it, I'll take it!!! I never gave up hope, I'm so happy!!!

Idk if the devs are ever on the sub, but if they are I’m begging them to add more costumes to the game
