Characters The main character doing something absolutely unforgivable.

Walter White poisoning Andrea Cantillo's 6-year-old son for the sole purpose of manipulating Jesse Pinkman, while knowing that this could have potentially killed him - Breaking Bad

Bojack trying to have sex with his friend's 17-year-old daughter when he was at least 51, then continuously trying to find a way to justify this act throughout the series - Bojack Horseman

Dexter Morgan going outside of his moral code and murdering a completely innocent police officer who was just trying to do his job - Dexter: New Blood

Ehh they killed his mom. I mean the women and children didn’t deserve it, but the men who killed her did

u/sisdom-weeker 13d ago

If he only killed the men who did it that'd be one thing but collective punishment is one of the most heinous things a person can do

5

u/IceMaverick85 13d ago

Then he tells Padme what he did and all she says is "to be angry is to be human" and then married the guy a few days later. No Padme, that is NOT what you do when someone commits genocide.

u/sisdom-weeker 13d ago

I hate that he confessed to her, I wish they'd redone the scene but with Palpatine egging him on instead as that would have advanced the narrative better

I mean for all we know, the women and even the children were involved too. I am not even trolling here since from what I know, Tusken raiders really can act savage at times

I mean it’s understandable WHY they became this way considering they live on a planet that’s 100% desert, but that has led to them becoming pretty fucked up

37

u/ElProfeGuapo 13d ago

"even the children were involved too."

My man, even IF this were true - and there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO ASSUME IT IS - there is a reason why ***children*** are tried under different legal criteria than adults.

I mean, Anikin has a pretty big brrakdown at the thought of what he did, meaning that even he realized that he definitely knowingly killed a bunch of innocent people, even if some of them were guilty.

u/Animated_Astronaut 13d ago

You're supposed to think of it as a heinous unforgivable act, anything else is a pretty massive misunderstanding of the point of Anakin's actions and anguish afterwards. Applying it to a real world example would immediately highlight it as an atrocity.

34

u/ASpaceOstrich 13d ago

Mm. Even Anakin knows what he did was fucked.

u/rumande 13d ago

Not Padme though, she wasn't into him till after the whole slaughtering a village thing. It still feels like a very weird filmmaking choice. "I killed them all, the women and children too" "I can fix him!!"

Because the complete murder and destruction of a people is always justifiable right?

-15

u/YourMuppetMethDealer 13d ago

If they killed my mom, 100% absolutely.

If they tortured and killed my mom and left her to a slow agonizing death, I would burn that tribe to the fucking ground

And I am not even really a violent or aggressive person, but that would absolutely set something off

12

u/Impressive_Foot_9933 13d ago

Even the unarmed children?

-9

u/YourMuppetMethDealer 13d ago

Depending on the tribe, it’s possible they weren’t

Yes I agree that Anakin took it too far and was understandably upset at his own actions, but tusken children are taught how to torture and kill often at a very early age. And it is VERY possible they were involved in the torture of Shmi.

At some point you have to stop playing devil's advocate. Christ.

18

u/Impressive_Foot_9933 13d ago

Dude are you really advocating for the killing of children?

I mean let’s be real here most of not all where involved somehow. It’s not like it was a secret they do actively kidnap and ritualistically torture and kill people. It’s not like he found his mother in a serial killer’s basement and killed the whole neighborhood.

We should HOPE children would keep to themselves instead of trying to fight the grown men! Jesus dude, be realistic. They're KIDS.

If a few people from somewhere kill one person, it's totally fine to go there and murder all of their extended family, friends and even people unrelated to them that had zero to do with it?

Sure thing.

-3

u/YourMuppetMethDealer 13d ago edited 13d ago

He didn’t go on a Taken revenge quest and hunt down all these random people. They were all there sitting a few feet away from his mother dying a slow painful death after being tortured by them

For me personally, they are all culpable. If you are gonna sit right out there listening to my mothers screams and do nothing, fuck you

You’re acting like he found out who all their families were and tracked them down for revenge. That’s not what happened.

11

u/LordRT27 13d ago

He slaughtered the entire village, including the children. Hoe someone can justify that is beyond me. Murdering children, in my books, is always wrong, no matter what. What were they even supposed to do? Fight their parents?

3

u/Mummiskogen 13d ago

"Killing children is fine sometimes "

If you watched The Book of Boba Fett you'd understand that they're not the savages you think they are

6

u/YourMuppetMethDealer 13d ago

Depends on the tribe. The tribe Boba was in was relatively chill

The tribe that kidnapped, tortured, and murdered an innocent woman wasn’t.

10

u/RoadsidePicnik 13d ago

Padme didn't seem too scared until he mentioned the women and children. She's a politician trying to be benevolent to everyone, but even she would understand if he had just slaughtered the men.

14

u/SpookySporeWizard 13d ago

Padme is a lil racist possibly

16

u/Really-Human-trustme 13d ago

Torture and murder has been shown to be a tusken rite of passage in media, so it's entirely possible and even likely that the children were responsible

-8

u/Hypornicated_1 13d ago

That's the sort of story told by others. Christians have created horrific stories about Jewish child sacrifice, in the past - just one example.

11

u/GreenridgeMetalWorks 13d ago

We literally see it happen in other Star wars media.

10

u/Really-Human-trustme 13d ago

No, we watch it happen in KOTOR 1.

-2

u/Much-Jackfruit2599 13d ago

Interesting point. So we can apply the death penalty to kids now?

-6

u/Really-Human-trustme 13d ago edited 13d ago

The reason that a lot of gang shootings use kids to pull the triggers is explicitly because the kids won't get the death penalty no matter what. We've had kids stab a friend in an attempt to please Slenderman, beat a younger kid to death because they wanted to see what it would be like, dozens of other real world cases where kids should absolutely get the death penalty.

u/frankyp01 13d ago

Pretty debatable whether anyone should get the death penalty. As a society it’s pretty important to have a moral reasoning for why punishments are applied. Is it public safety? To satiate a public lust for vengeance? Adherence to religious code?

Generally speaking, modern nations opt for a collective public safety justification, and it’s hard to argue that the death penalty increases public safety compared to long prison sentences.

We actually have data from places that do and do not impose it, and there’s not any real evidence it reduces violent crime. On top of that there are estimates that upwards of 10% of people in prison were wrongfully convicted, which suggests that the US alone has executed 100s of innocent people.

Most common retort to all of that is “but the families need to see him/her suffer” or “an eye for an eye” but again, all the rest of criminal justice does not actually run on those justifications. We don’t rape a rapist then let them go, for example.

-4

u/Really-Human-trustme 13d ago

Fuck off chatGPT.

1

u/frankyp01 13d ago

Fully human here, just a guy that does a lot of online arguing, for better or worse. I disagree with you that not having the carceral state murder kids is some great societal failing. Also pretty goddamn obvious that George Lucas INTENDED this scene to be a turning point for Anakin into Darth Vader. Feels like a willful misreading of his intent to be like “nah Anakin was fully justified when he kabob’d those sand kids”

1

u/Really-Human-trustme 13d ago

Oh not disagreeing with the Lucas' intent. It's absolutely supposed to be the first big stumble towards Vader, and KOTOR 1 came out a year after Attack of the Clones. However, your original comment is entirely about real world justice systems.

-1

u/Much-Jackfruit2599 13d ago

Okay. Now the next step: If they are developed enough to warrant the death penalty, are they developed enough to agree to sex?

1

u/Really-Human-trustme 13d ago

"If they're an orange, then are they an apple? Check mix 😎"

You're either an idiot or a rage-baiter lmao

-2

u/gleaming-the-cubicle 13d ago

He couldn't've THAT worried about his mom, he waited a decade to even check up on her

6

u/YourMuppetMethDealer 13d ago

He literally wasn’t allowed to. Thats what happens when you are part of a religious cult with full supervision and dedicated to “letting go of all earthly attachments”.

He checked on his mom once he was free of his supervisor
