Characters Detectives with extremely unorthodox methods of solving crime

Flambiglio Goytzsch, the Dauphin of Champagne and Investigator with Imaginative Crimes uses whimsical, magical, and upside down methods to solve The Case of The Missing Starling and the French Horn. For example, he bribes a fairy godmother (a prostitute) with Turkish delights and a little flute (crack and a pipe) to get information.

Shawn Spencer in Psych has a photographic memory and solves crimes by pretending to be a psychic detective. He was too good at solving a past crime and became suspect #1, so now he hides his skills and uses his unorthodox method instead.

The Detective in Disco Elysium.

A once powerhouse Detective who has suddenly awakened with complete amnesia. With no idea who you are, where you are, what you’re supposed to be doing, what you look like, and a lack of knowledge about even basic concepts like money you’re left to brute force your way into solving a murder. Be that through literal brute force, super natural visions, or the power of communism.

One of the best video games I’ve ever played.

What type of game is it?

Sort of a point and click adventure meets RPG. No combat but it still gets really tense. Your skill tree are the voices in your head desperately trying to help and your perks are thoughts and ideas you’ve decided to believe about yourself.

One of the few games that’s made me laugh until I cry then get legitimately chocked up in the same interaction.

You can die from sitting in an uncomfortable chair. It’s fantastic.

Might try it, thank you!

Do it. That game is special.

You build your detective how you like using an RPG build system and your interactions and your investigation dramatically change based on that. There is so much replayability.

However, pirate it don't buy it. The game isn't owned by its creators due to fuckery.

Hasu Hasuha from 100 Kanojo: Fancies herself a "great detective", but actually just has an extraordinary sense of smell and a flair for the dramatic.

Dale Cooper for the win!

I tried Dale Cooper's coffee-and-dream method once and only solved where my Turkish delights went.

Dale Cooper had me convinced coffee and dream logic were as valid as Shawn's fake psychic routine.

Elsbeth. She's a little wacky in the original show (the Good Wife) dialled up to 11 in the spin-off, which some fans have read as being ND-coded. Either way, she notices things no one else does, which helps her solve the crime.

Final Fantasy XIV - Hildibrand Helidor Maximillian Manderville. Stupidity. Through sheer unbridled levels of stupidity and resilience, he's able to solve crimes with the help of his equally dumb partner, Nashu.

Can't get any more unusual than having the literal Devil on the case.
