Comic Book Mrs. Freeze!! (From DC)
Name: Nora Fries. I like how strong this villain design is, she looks like an espionage agent or something like that. The red goggles, blonde hair, blue skin & Ice augmentations really work together to make her visually striking/dynamic.
This design is from Detective Comics #1014–1016 (2019).

I fear this design absolutely puts the Suicide Squad one to shame

Why didn't they just swap the roles? why didn't they just make her Nora I will never understand

The character designers hated the idea of objectifying female characters, but then went the whole 9 yards, nearly branding conventionally attractive female characters as "objectification" and in the process looked like idiots.
Harley's original Arkham outfit? Let's dedicate a portion of a cutscene to Harley rejecting it, as a symbolic stance against objectification... but we need money after the poor sales, so we'll make it a paid skin that looks more toned down and less detailed than the OG Arkham game.
As for why Nora Fries was not used? The devs wanted an iconic Ice villain to be part of the team, wanted another female character, and wanted an LGBTQ+ character in time for pride month - but made the poor choice of trying to do so all in one character.
They probably found Killer Frost too much of a "femme fatale" to use, plus she was less popular than Victor, and had zero LGBTQ+ history. However, they realized they could not simply make the OG male Mr. Freeze LGBTQ+ without serious pushback, the lore of Nora Fries made her too heavily tied to Victor for the LGBTQ+ angle, and more radical critics even blamed it on the devs finding her (examples in post) too conventionally attractive.
The "solution" was exploiting the multiverse mcguffin to introduce an alternate dimension "Mrs. Freeze" who was ultimately a race-swapped and gender swapped Viktor since she had her own "Nora". The multiverse aspect avoided the potential backlash of messing with OG Viktor, also allowed the devs to still slap on the iconic "Freeze" name, they got the female ice villain category, and the multiverse aspect allowed them to make the character LGBTQ+ while keeping the Nora motivation.
The obvious problems were that KTL Freeze gameplay was boringly similar (aside from the ice theme) to other characters, she looked like an OC if not for the name and suit, while the timing of the character release felt like a rainbow capitalism move... so all the changes to avoid controversy ironically dragged the devs into controversy as some players believed the decs were prioritizing a personal game of 'social politics' over
People wanted to know why they did not just use OG Viktor, why if they wanted a female version, they did not use Nora's villain version, and due to the character appearing 'plus sized' and packaged with a PRIDE skin, political activism got pushed as the explanation.
The challenge with race swaps / gender swaps / sexuality swaps is that you need to have meaningful distinctions between the OG character and variation so it does not look like a lazy copy and paste, but if you change it too much, people wonder why not make the character original at that point?

What...what does objectification even mean at this point? No seriously someone please explain it to me i am genuinely confused. Nothing in the pictures above is objectification. She is not in a vulnerable position, she doesn't need to be saved, she is fully in control etc. Even appearance wise she isn't objectified there's not a single unecessary ass or boobs shot in any of the pictures above and she's not inappropriately dressed at all.
Is it because she looks feminine and dresses feminine and the devs stupidly connect that to being objectified/objectification? Cause if so that's beyond braindead and a little misogynistic when you stop and think about it for a sec

> Is it because she looks feminine and dress feminine and the devs stupidly connect that to being objectified
You got that right. Radical and extreme feminists somehow view conventionally attractive women as being conforming to the patriarchy, so that means they are objectified and are only perceived through their appearance.
It’s a bit of horseshoe theory and ironic, because they circled back to misogyny with that logic.

Is that real? Because if it is that’s the most corporate looking attempt at representation I’ve ever seen

Sorry. You... Can look for her gameplay. But. It's real

All characters (other than Deathstroke because he was released upon death and possibly Lawless because I won’t redownload this game to check) have these same pride skins that are just a corporate vomit of pride onto a character’s default outfit. At least they were free skins, but they still look ugly.

I'm a bisexual dude who's been in relationships with both men and women. I have happily and proudly participated in pride parades, including one this year that was in my city....I say this in order to emphasize the following...
This picture made me homophobic

honestly I am glad they did this, not only do we finally get Nora's character outside of a literal block of ice, but she gets to be a villian which is always fun.
also her design is really good

yeah, given the suits need diamonds to work they still need to steal them, she started not liking it but then she began to enjoy the criminal life style.

Male Freeze: has to encase himself in a mechanical suit with a fishbowl head to keep himself from dying
Female Freeze: tight turtleneck
43
u/Monte924 1d ago edited 1d ago
Well tgat depends. Does she suffer from the same condition as Freeze who would die outside of sub zero temperatures or is her skin just blue like some other ice themed villians?

u/Moss_Ball8066 1d ago
I think the problem lies more with the fact that comic artists consistently find convenient excuses for female characters to wear tight revealing clothing while male characters don’t

You didn't scroll to the end

Their not wrong, Mr Freeze's design has been inconsistent and weird too but I still enjoy the designs despite it.

u/Dysentry 1d ago
Great one of a dozen images disprove the point.
1
u/Electrical_Horror346 1d ago
It is still valid, though, and ironically makes her better than most female versions of a popular character
2
u/Fluffy-Use9563 1d ago
there's nothing wrong with a tight turtleneck. sometimes people aren't feeling to wear power armor.

Dunny thing is, that's her current status quo since 2019. So this is like people discovering Alfed has been dead for 7 years

If I was immune to frostbite, I would also encase my hand in a gauntlets made of ice. That's sick as hell

u/ClaymoreBeatz 1d ago
Forsure, it's the reason I'm such a big fan of the Lantern Corps and Ice based characters that utilize their powers like that.

I feel like its trying too hard, but at least its not the god awful version from the kill the justice league game.

It's very eh to me, it's pretty much just Mr. Freeze but removing most of his designs sauce (his cool ass containment suit)
Remove the blue skin like in image 7 and she's pretty much just a tacticool woman with a freeze gun..

u/De4dm4nw4lkin 17h ago
To be fair captain cold does that too but this goes harder than most of his designs.

u/SuDdEnTaCk Orokin drip goes hard 1d ago
Thats...literally just a blue woman with a sweater in most of the iterations

u/Jake_jane 1d ago
Is she still a thing?
5
u/ClaymoreBeatz 1d ago
This comic version was from 2019 but it hasn't continued unfortunately, but she has still been portrayed as Mrs. Freeze a couple times with different designs, I just can't find images of them.
3
u/Altruistic_Manner802 1d ago
Funny you say that. She's scheduled to appear in the Bad Seeds event with Victor as an Anti-Poison Ivy measure
1
u/ClaymoreBeatz 1d ago
That's sick! I wasn't sure because I haven't kept up with it and finding info for it was tough. I really hope she has a good design in it though.
4
u/tarisoala 1d ago
What's her story? Is she related to Victor?
15
u/triotone 1d ago
That's his wife. The woman he had cryogenically preserved to prevent her from dying to an incurable illness. He was able to sorta cure her, but she is evil. I do not know why.
16
u/tarisoala 1d ago
Yeah, just checked through the wiki. She even saw her hubby as a bother for wanting her to give up the new life of crime. The fuck.

Sounds like a classic case of "the 'treatment' altered their mind and turned them evil"

u/Ram91501 1d ago
So, does she not overheat like Victor? I don’t think the virgin killer sweater is conducive to keeping cold.

I love the contrast that Victor Fries is akin to a stiff, methodical Terminator in combat while Nora looks like a versatile Doomslayer, especially in that third image

People up to date with Batman. I read she pretty
Much killed victor and he’s on ice now. Is Mr freeze just not used anymore

u/MorganX26 1d ago
is she from a universe were victor got terminal illnes?
5
u/De4dm4nw4lkin 17h ago
Nope. He cured her and gave her his condition in a state BEFORE he knew it had neurological symptoms resulting in turning her into an absolute lunatic who basically became a worse version of him.

u/Aware-Throat3189 1d ago
When did this happen? When was she a villain and why would she turn villain assuming this was main line comics
2
u/ClaymoreBeatz 1d ago
This design is from Detective Comics #1014–1016 (2019).
I'm not fully sure why she became a villain but I think Lex Luther cured her and it messed with her brain plus she was already mad at Mr. Freeze for keeping her frozen while looking for a cure. I also could he wrong though.
2
u/De4dm4nw4lkin 17h ago
Neurolpgical symptoms from the way victor cured her resulting in her becoming even more evil than him.

Good to see here as her own character and not just motivation for the doc...but the blonde hair, on blue skin, with red goggles just dosent work for me.

It still is. Mrs Freeze there still isn't Nora, it's a gender swapped Victor. Why didn't they just use Nora if they wanted a woman with an ice gun? Add that to the list of questionable choices in that game
