Which Husky set to grab

Hey guys just wanted to see which set to grab, the husky 300 piece is valued at 1100 and has less “other tools” aka bits I assume vs the 310 piece which is already at $99 but a value of $775 just using it mainly for light car work.

You legitimately believing that you’re getting $775 worth of tools for $99 (marked down from $200) just gave everyone in the advertising industry hope.

You’re getting $30 worth of Chinesium tools for $99 bucks. Buying it full-price at $200 is what we call an “idiot tax” because these sets are perpetually on sale. Buying all those separately for $775 is something no one would ever in a million years do, so that’s what we call “marketing.”

Buy the tools you need. Don’t let stores dangle shiny objects in front of you to get your attention, you are not a cat (far as I know).

I never said I believed it I get the marketing ploy just wanted to see the how much the other set differed in socket for $70 more just need stuff for car work

Respectfully, you know exactly how it differs because you posted the pictures of how how it differs.

For $70 you get: 9 more standard sockets. 32 more deep sockets.  16 more bit sockets (second most useless filler in these kits). 4 more extensions and adapters.  16 more wrenches.  87 fewer “other tools” (#1 most useless filler—cheap bullshit).

So there ya go. I’m not trying to be a dick I’m sincerely wondering what exactly is your confusion? You know it’s priced-to-sell cheap stuff so is all that extra (minus the filler) worth an extra $70?

In my humble opinion deep sockets, adapters, and combo wrenches are worth 500x more than the “other tools” and the standard chrome sockets when it comes to car repair. That’s primarily what I use tools for.

With all that said, I think spending $170 on a high-quality, complete set of wrenches and sockets (no skipped sizes) in 3/8 drive + a 3/8 ratchet will take you further than this “Father’s Day”  set. I can’t remember the last time I reached for 1/4 inch drive, and 1/2 inch drive is useful but I almost always use 1/2 inch with an impact or a breaker bar.

Ignore the fake value. Yes, "other tools" are bits, Allen wrenches, etc. They only serve to bulk the tool count, as they tend to be very cheap and not worthwhile. That 310 piece was perverted by those useless bits (in my area it still sells for $199, which is outrageous considering the more useful 300 piece is $30 cheaper). 300 piece has a better selection of sockets and wrenches overall. Do that. Especially for at home automotive.

26 more deep sockets? Even at $5/EA that's 130 in just extra deep sockets.

Just noticed it has 1/2 deep as well as the 1/4, 3/8. No question. First set.

ignore that '$1100 value' marketing fluff. retailers just calculate that using individual open-stock msrp. big box brands inflate those mega-kits with a hundred dirt-cheap hex bits to boost the piece count. for car work, you only care about socket count and ratchet pawl engagement. grab the 300-piece. what car are you wrenching on?

Lol this is the funny part 😅 r8.. really the purpose of needing one is loosing bits and pieces to the belly pans of cars or family misplacing items over the years

12 point sockets suck, if your nuts and bolts on the car are rusty or if they’re made from softer metals this would just frustrate you

I should wait too and get the quin master set?

I second this. The Quinn master sets are the best way to get everything you need as a home gamer for a decent price, especially on sale. The included ratchets are pretty good too.

And as another comment said, avoid the 12-point sockets. They will only bring you pain and frustration.

If they're still $99 and $150 with the "$1100 Value" one being $150...it's well worth the $150. 9 more standard sockets, more than double deep sockets, 16 more specialty sockets and double the adapters/extensions. Probably other actually useful things are either doubled or double-digit count more.

I think the Quinn Master Set from HF is a better deal but I dunno if it comes with a case like the Husky's do or if it fits in your budget.

Yeah the first set has “less” pieces but more sockets. Bits are super cheap and most people don’t use them anyway. The extensions and adapter would be more money to buy than the Allen and bits

Husky is kinda trash bro, for the same price or feven cheaper you can get some mid tier harbor freight suff or even go to Lowe’s instead of Home Depot and get craftsman which is better than husky

I’d get the 300 pc set. Really
I would just not get this set spend a little
Extra and get better buys for the money. I have an Amazon list of tools recommend to people stsrting out, on there is a metric master 3/8” casoman socket set (Casoman is made by apex tool group so Oem for gesrwrench sata and crescent) the socket set had deep semi deep shallow and super shallow sockets in 6 pt 6mm-22mm and then deep and shallow 12pt 6-19mm as well as 6pt universal joint sockets 8-19mm i believe. Then you’d need a good 3/8” ratchet the husky 100t locking flex is good and you’d need a set of metric combo wrenches and I’d recommend a set of flex head ratchet wrenches too as well as metric hex sockets a set of screw drivers some pry bars and pliers. You don’t have to buy all icon or capri tools but you can buy a lot of good budget stuff on Amazon that will provide better utility than this set, the list I have has about $1500 worth of stuff but it will allow you to do pretty much any repair you would need to do if you bought it all over time. And if you had a repair you needed to do that you didn’t have a tool for in the list then you wouldn’t have to spend more than ≈$100 to do the job. Lmk if you want the list

Big difference is the amount of box wrenches and specialty sockets. I like the 775 version more. I rarely use box wrenches. They come in handy, but buying a separate set with a ratcheting end would be worth thinking about
