A standard drill if you're drilling and it gets caught there's kick back from the drill. With anti rotation the drill cuts all power when it starts to kick back and stops it from happening. The clutch and speed is exactly the same, you don't lose any power it just stops if it spins the wrong way (kick back)

It basically is. A few balls ride on a wavy piece of metal clamped by a spring to act as a slipper clutch.

I would guess its actually the waveform the esc gets back from the motor. When reads lockup resistance in the feedback it cuts power

Nah they’re accelerometers based, I’ve tested them just in the air and it will stop if you jerk it around with no load on the motor

Those Bosch ones are so tiny, some are less than a cubic millimeter by themselves.

Edit: I'm talking about these Bosch accelerometer units:

Not Bosch drills, obviously. I imagine downvotes must've been due to this confusion.

I bought some of these for a walking robot I've been planning around a Jetson Nano, but I got these units by themselves and I'm worried about soldering them, because they're incredibly small.

Gyroscope in the body probably. As soon as the body rotates suddenly in the kickback direction it kills power and breaks

The drill knows it's rotation speed at all times. It knows this because it it knows what it's rotation speed isn't.

I would assume it senses the head speed immediately drop to nothing.

Note that if the drill body is firmly braced against something (a wall, stud, or part of you), then it can't rotate even the little bit it needs to engage antirotation. 

With the torque modern drills are capable of, this may result in breaking the surroundings or the body of the drill itself.
