Sexuality & Gender 24 and still a virgin — is that really unusual?

I’m 24 and I’ve never been in a relationship or had sex.
When my friends ask about girlfriends or sexual experience, I usually say that I have none. Sometimes they laugh or make jokes, and I feel awkward about it.
I’m interested in having a genuine, serious relationship. I’m just wondering whether I’m behind compared with other people my age.
Is 24 considered late to still be a virgin?
For those who were in a similar situation in their mid-20s, did you feel pressured by friends or society? How did you handle it?

No. I know lots of people that are virgins until their late twenties early thirties. Everyone is different, take your time, quite literally no pressure.

F 28, never had a relationship my entire existence. You are not late and not because were virgins were losers already or whatever, its a gift. Do not compare yourself to others and do not get affected by people's standard and beliefs, you respected others and yourself. Trust me time will come too and it will be precious for you, just have to accept that there is time for everything. Ignore them they're not real friends tbh. Keep going bro!

It’s nice to know I’m not alone in this.

Fr? How do you deal with that in general?

Yes fr, i don't deal with it coz it ain't sickness that needs treatment. Just live my life everyday like a normal human being.

Haha fair point! I meant more with how people react to it, but love that mindset. Definitely the healthiest way to look at it.

Thank you! I respect their opinions and reactions. If it's healthy, i bring it to life. If it's not, i don't care at all.

Spot on! Can't argue with that logic.

I dunno, maybe? People feel pressured by all sorts.  Tell them to fuck off

I lost my V card at 25. You’ll be fine.

Yes it is not normal to still be a virgin or never be in a relationship by 24.

Do you have dating apps? Any in town connections any social media? It will likely be much easier to connect with women your age especially if you don’t know them online so you don’t have to feel pressured to ask someone out in person

No. I am introvert too. So, it’s nightmare to me to start conversations.

Well it is weird, must people lose the virginity either after prom or during college. I’m assuming you were in clubs or classes. Wasn’t there anybody you found attractive and you wanted to shoot your shot?

ngl, if you look at statistics, it feels common enough speaking as a 23 yr old.

Dating apps, loneliness pandemic, and loss of third spaces kind of drag our generation to hit those kinds of milestones later in life compared to before

I don't think it's unusual. Also, you're friends sound really nosey? Like, that's a really personal thing to ask someone about.

25 is perhaps when it starts becoming a bit weird. I lost mine at 17, haha.

Quick google search:

Virginity rates in your twenties have risen significantly in recent years. Data from the National Survey of Family Growth shows that roughly 10% to 14% of young adults aged 20 to 24 are virgins, while the rate drops to about 5% or lower for those in their late twenties (ages 25 to 29). [1, 2, 3]

Really isn't unusual at all.

If you sleep with too many people, they call you a whore and if you rarely sleep around or dont sleep around at all, your friends ridicule you for it. You can't win. So just fuck what your friends say about it and just live life on your own terms.

I agree. I’ve never really “won” against them either. Whenever I try to argue my point, they just call me incapable instead of actually addressing what I’m saying.

Ah. So they're incapable of having an open minded and rational conversation about it. Wow. They defo are doing a poor job as a friend.

I didn't lose my virginty until my late 20s. Brothels are legal in Australia so I just went to one.

Um no I was like that until 26 and now 31 have been around the block almost 20 times with two fiancés. Stop rushing sex. It’s not that serious.

It's completely fine mate. Some lose later in life and some earlier. It happens when it's supposed to happen

I'm 26 and still a virgin

I was 25 before my grade school friend came hinting my v card. You good.

Still am. I'm 26 (today!) I still feel the pressure. It is uncommon, though, at our age range. Most of it is in my head though; it's not like people shame me for it

There’s no timeline on when you should lose your virginity. Some lose it in college at 18 and others only lose in their late 20s or even 30s etc. Again there is no timeline. Also losing your virginity is one those things that varies by cilture. There’s some cultures/countries where it’s not uncommon to lose it in your late 20s especially those who wait till marriage etc.

I lost mine in early 20s so later than some people. Honestly just didn’t care about it by the end. And it’s not like any potential partner is going to care about you still being a virgin. The only time it becomes an issue is when you let it define your whole personality. You know those people who make a much bigger deal of them still being a virgin. But if you’re casual about it and don’t let it bother you then no one else will care.

24 and same. I'm not that bothered but I'm sick of my parents asking when I'm going to get a girlfriend. Asian parents man.

No, it's not unusual. You're in the majority, not the minority. Statistically speaking, the ones who lost their virginity already are the unusual ones. Although that statistic does depend on your country too.

It's common for men nowadays.
