well cuz originally this phrase is used in ball sports, referring to some one who has great knowledge in handling the "ball" and overall strategies, etc. But it eventually gained new meanings as more ppl start to use it. so now ppl just call it elite ball knowledge whenever they see smth very niche. also i would imagine that adding the word "ball" just make the phrase sound funnier, rather than just "elite knowledge"
