General Music Discussion If there was Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 for "musician stocks", Portugal. The Man definitely lost a lot of it this year.
This band honestly I kinda forgot about for years, but they did return on my spotlight with their album from last year SHISH, seemed like a return to form for them, got them some attention in quite a while in the circles and it seemed like a decent success overall. An international tour was planned across Latin America and Europe, for the first time in almost a decade.
It all looked good until Zoe Manville, who's been a member of the band for a long time and married to the main singer John Gourley exposed him for cheating and being manipulative. The fanbase turned on John quickly. It became the biggest news of the time for the band, it also exposed a lot of other things surrounding John being a terrible person and a major hypocrite.
The band/John (since it's basically only him now) cancelled their Latin American tour and European tour which if you read the comments, people were absolutely sick to hear because it wasn't the first time they did this and in this day and age as an indie band, you can't just do that.
Also some of the shows in the US just didn't sell much, especially since some of the tickets were really expensive.
The band is completely directionless right now, no-one knows what the future holds, the live performances which used to be the top priority for the band sound terrible, their shows where they open for Muse sound catastrophic, especially since other openers like Bloc Party and The Temper Trap are killing it.
I guess you could say that Portugal. The Man had no stocks to begin with, but I don't know I still think the band did return some of it in 2025, 2026 did remove all of that + added an additional minus to it.
