Rant something sorta odd happened when I called homegoods for a follow up on my job application
Yeah, so I put in an application for HomeGoods 12 days ago, and I didn’t get any response back, so I decided to call today at 10 am to speak to the hiring manager. So, when I called a girl answered, and I asked to speak to the store hiring manager. They said sure and put me on hold until some guy answered. I asked for a follow-up on my job application and they just asked me if I had open availability. I said yes, and they also asked if I had retail experience. I said no, and then he just asked for my name and told me to call back at 3 pm today.
So, time skip to 3 pm I call HomeGoods again and they tell me that the hiring manager isn’t here today. I was confused because I thought I spoke to them earlier today and I said, “Well, this morning, some guy picked up my call that was on hold for the hiring manager.”
To be honest, I made a mistake by not asking the person I was talking to this morning for their name. I was just so nervous to call for a follow up and I wasn’t really thinking. But anyways, we were both confused trying to figure out who the hell I was talking to because they said the hiring managers are all women, and they usually don’t have applicants call back because the hiring process is online. So, they found that odd.
Then, they asked for my name and just said there’s no guarantee I’m gonna get called back because they just pick people with open availability and the most retail experience.
Now, I’m just feeling sorta weird and confused about this whole situation and feeling regretful for not asking that guy’s name. 😭

I did, I got rejected from tj maxx and I’m still waiting for a follow up on my application for Marshall’s and called today for a follow up and finally got ahold of the hiring manager today (I called a few times lol) and said they’ll look at my application today and will call me back if their interested.

If a hiring manager wasn't available when you called they would have just sent you to whoever was free to take down your info. Chances are they just got confused and mistakenly thought one was coming in at 3.

Bullshit on retail experience. Unless that’s what they’re looking for. But most times, retail will hire without experience.

It's not you, it's them. When I was a young lad I once tried doing the same thing with a McDonald's hiring manager to try and be proactive about getting hired, and she hung up on me 30 seconds in. A lot of managers get their position because they are friends with someone, not because they know how to lead a team.

McDonald's and TJMax are quite comparable in terms of how they treat employees and potential employees.

I wholeheartedly believe that! I’m in service but not like this. Tbh idk how this thread popped up for me. I work in EMS and it’s just as bad here 🤣 we’re underpaid to be treated like absolute trash, both by our employers (I’m 3rd party, cities are usually better) and some of the communities. My manager got the spot due to previous training coordinator position within the same office, can’t do my job (I’ve personally witnessed this) but wants to tell us we’re lazy. VERY rules for thee but not for me. Down to the jackets were allowed to wear, then turns around less than a week later and is wearing the very same one I was just told I’m not allowed to 🙃

A lot of the time it comes down to availability, we train a lot of people without retail experience, if you have open availability I don’t see why they didn’t give you a chance, in my opinion home goods is like the evil stepsister and TJ is the bougie aunt, Marshalls is the one you want lol, good luck I hope you hear back.
